Light codes changed for newer controllers, mine was a sensor trip rather than a generally controller fail. There was an arcane reset sequence that seems to have done the job, I can hear the water heater doing its thing.

Toggle power, then rapidly go from max to min temp 5x in 30 seconds. It either resets the sensor or launches a missile
