Kayvan v4 popping like it's going to break!

I'm loving the new v4, but I can't seem to fix my popping issue. We all know and love the crackle of a fresh build but this has me scratching my head.

The coil works fine when new but after it breaks in (when crackles tend to diminish) I get a very hard POP that quite literally shakes my mouth every draw. It is like a firecracker exploding in my face. The Lite Plus I used before didn't do this, nor has any other device I have built.

We are now on our 6th build and 6th bottle of juice with consistent performance every time. 1.3 ohm, 28ga kanthal, on a dna40.

Why the Fireworks? I deliberately tried 100 pg, 75/25, 50/50, 25/75, and 100 vg to see if flow was the issue to no avail.

That popping is generally caused by the cotton being too loose in the coil. You want it snug. Just not too snug. You should be able to pull the cotton through with a very slight resistance. But not so much it will pull your atty over or bunch up outside the coil.

Also you may want to check your resistance before firing. There are some issues with resistance jumping all over the place with the Kv4. If you have it set for say 15w on your 1.3Ω it will give 4.42v. But if your resistance jumps to say 2.0Ω your voltage will jump to 5.48. I had a similar issue with one of my Lemos when using the holes instead of the leads. Build was 1.1Ω but it jumped around all the way as high as 2.8Ω. So my voltage sent through the roof. It popped so hard one time I got a splatter of hot juice in my mouth.

I get a single very loud pop on all my builds with spaced coils (not as much on contact coils). When the tank sits for a few mins, and the coil gets fully saturated, when I start to fire I'll get a single loud pop. Depending on how the atmozer chimney is designed, I can feel it at the drip tip. You should hear it on my SquapeR. For some reason, the way the airflow system and deck is designed, when I get that first loud pop it sends a poof of vapor out of the airflow hole. Like I said, I only notice this with spaced coils, and I attribute that to better wicking.

Its normal, in my opinion. Its a sign that things are working good and your coil is getting nice and soaked, its popping off a thick layer of juice on the coil.. The opposite you want to hear is just a little sizzle, that means your coil is not as wet.

I don't really get that problem; well, the magma with the 28 gauge does give a pop every now and then, but the coil is to the side anyway so it's unlikely to spit back;

But anyway I realised that even if I did get popping and shooting of liquid up a chimney, angled drip tips have a additional benefit of stopping the spitback into the mouth.

I did seem to get some resistance jumping when I tried a few nickel builds. My kanthal reads about .5 an ohm lower than calculated and varies about .2 until it settles. I will try to pack my cotton in a bit tighter tonight. I may be folding the ends down into the deck too sharply and pulling them away from the top of the outer coils. It seems the v4 has less room for wick than the other kayfun. I am using cotton bacon for wick. That stuff seems to want to vary in density when you pull it apart if your not careful. I am still waiting for someone to figure out a wick-less heating element. We need something like a mini induction stove top in there lol.
