Hi everyone,

Brand new here. Still reading, still learning. There's a lot of information so it's a little difficult to sort through.

One of the things I'm picking up is there's a correlation between what wattage your device supports and what resistance coil you should be using. Still not 100% sure how that formula works, but I understand the concept. Here's my question:

I'm currently using an eleaf 50w device with an Aspire Atlantis tank. I've seen 0.3 and 0.5 ohm coils for it, but I also notice that the LED screen misreads the resistance when I use them. I'm wondering if I should keep my setup or swap something out for better performance?

Also, what kind of liquids should I be using? I like a lot of smoke but I don't want the voltage going too high to vaporize the liquid cuz I read some disturbing stuff about what higher voltage can do to the solutions.

Hi! Welcome to the forum. Having the resistance off a bit is not uncommon. I would probably still get another device whether you need it or not if you can afford to with this FDA stuff going on. If your using a regulated box mod you should be safe as there are many protection features in them. :)

As for the LED misreading the resistance, a slight variance is normal. If you're using a coil marked at 0.5 ohm, it can read anywhere from 0.47 to 0.53 ohms. If you are seeing a larger difference (i.e. a 0.5 ohm coil reading as 1 or 1.3 ohms) that can either mean that you have a defective coil, or the coil/tank may not be making a good connection. If you want to maximize your vapor (clouds), then you want to go with higher VG concentrations as VG is what makes the vapor. I would not worry so much about setting your voltage/wattage too high. You will definitely know that it is too high well before it is high enough to produce nasty stuff like formaldehyde. The juice and cotton will burn and taste absolutely horrible and you will definitely not want to continue vaping at that voltage/wattage.

FDA stuff going on? I don't understand. Are you implying they'll be more difficult to get in the event something happens based on a pending issue with the FDA?

Hi, thanks. I was just reading an article explaining PG/VG to me. You think I should go with some flavors that are generally 50/50? I'd like to stick to the same ratio between whatever juices I order so I don't have to keep fooling with the wattage on the battery. Is there a way to narrow a search to good flavors that come in 50/50?

The PG/VG ratio shouldn't affect the wattage you are using. That will be purely dependent on the coil you are using. That said, the PG/VG ratio will be dependent on the juice you are using. Some juice vendors like Vista Vapors, Mt Baker, etc. allows you to choose the PG/VG ratio as the juice is made to order. Others (such as the "retail" juices like Space Jam, etc.) will only be available in one PG/VG ratio. My personal preference is max VG, and when I mix my own juice, the only source of PG is the flavorings, although one of my favorite retail juices is a 60VG/40PG juice.

I can't tell what country you're from, but if you live in the United States, you might consider buying a mechanical mod and an RBA for the future. FDA Regulations may make vaping in the US very difficult in the near future, and getting a mech and RBA is your best insurance against a vape apocolyse. Just throwing that out there for you to research. Regulations begin in August 2016.
