PIA is the cheapest also I'm just trying to understand using my modem how it can go through a VPN and from your modem getting Inet. A little hard for me to understand
To put it simply once you're connected it acts like your isp, masks your IP and encrypts all data going in/out.

OK I read how it works now if you get one and I say want to hook up my computer or anything else do I have to change like my connection in Win 10 or will it still use the same connection. It says it's automatic.

I guess I don't get it. My modem is also my router I guess because I just have one box which is where my 2 DSL's enter and WiFi and ethernet come out and do I need different software for my Win 10 computer and Android Phone and Box and my Roku sounds complicated.
You can do it one of two ways.

The way I do it is have a router for all the computers in the house, then a separate router for all the streaming stuff, like the Nvidia boxes and my htpc, on the second router using openVPN firmware and that means all devices connected to that router are going through VPN.

The other and more simple way is you just install it directly on your device, this is what it looks like in Android...

Once connected it works the same way, but only for that device

Depends how technical they want to go with it, from a purely 1's and 0's standpoint, it's no different from their pov than torrenting with seeding turned off. technically, by the time the whole thing has buffered, at that point you have downloaded a full copy of whatever your watching, over the course of you watching it.
Not completely true. I was on the phone with my Dad last night, and had my program on mute. then when I went back to it, I had missed something. I clicked back to the middle of the show, and the completed portion of the progress bar reset. It re-buffers from the point you reset the video.

btw that can be fixed w/ your cachemebuffersize in advancedsettings.xml, but what I meant from a data standpoint, like hour isp looking at your history, to them, if you watched the entire video, there's no difference from torrenting (with seeding turned off) bc at one point or another the whole thing got downloaded over the course of you watching it. They won't see a difference between downloading something and streaming it.

if you want I can help you properly set up your cachemebuffersize and other advanced settings in your kodi user data folder.

Here are mine, ofc your cachemebuffersize is going to be dependent to your specific device but I can help you figure that out and you're welcome to copy the rest.

Likewise, Falco, on my Earthlink dsl modem. Without it, I'm not going anywhere online. From any device, since wired or wireless they all have to go through it.
You know, if you guys are using the modem router combos, you can shut off the router part and just use it as a modem so you can get a decent router. That's what I had to do with fios, but the Nighthawk router I'm using is SO much less frustrating trying to work from home, now it lets me bounce off the upper limit for 5ghz and even sometimes go above it.

You can but SS doesn't use it yet they said when they can get it working as well as 16.1 they will put out an update so if you put it on you would lose the support. That is the biggest thing why SS is more expensive ask Kay. So I will stick with 16.1 till SS makes a move to 17.

Yes...the service provided by SS is phenomenal!!! I just got off the phone with an SS employee ..he spent about an hour with me...my WiFi screwed up AGAIN...stinkin damn Spectrum.... so now he's just going to send me some Ethernet cables...free of charge, and overnight and then I'll call him and we'll get it set up properly!!

It's one of the deciding factors in why I chose the SS1.

I got rid of the tv part of my cable pkg. I wish I could get another whole company! But Spectrum has this area locked in except for Satellite co's.

That will be good then you can shut wifi on your box or not but you won't need a code or pw it automatically knows that you are hardwired.

Your're not watching that crazy guy on YT are you Iffy?

Which one? All too many are 'crazy'/greedy...
dontknow.gif

I've posted earlier here dat I've already separated da YT wheat from da chaff. But I'm also intelligent and wizened 'nuff to know da diff twix 'whole wheat' and 'cracked'! There is soooo much on da web (ignoring ads, of course...) re streaming/VPN/ISPs/etc. to guide interested streamers to a satisfactory/minimal co$t alternative. In fact, use Google to find info sites other dan YT...

In fact, I recently learned dat I can't 'easily' change my router's channel, thanx to my provider's unit. Gonna look into ditchin' what I have, even if I pay fer my own.

Along dat line, I've spent le$$ dan one month of cable in my quest fer 'Independence (including two set-ups fer my prodigy)!

Another thing I don't get is why it would be considered illegal to watch old TV programs that aren't available anywhere but Kodi.

AFAIK, pretty much globally, it isn't currently considered illegal to watch! Kodi/add-ons/etc, do nuttin' more dan scour and provide content sites ; readily available otherwise if ya know da 'address.

Yeah, well, at least they were the first to start recommending vaping for quitting smoking. :)

Thanx much David, ya beat beat me to dat point!

Would also like to thank our new contributors here dat have exposed sum great info/possibilities dat I need to further research; kiba first comes to mind... but I know there are more...

Lastly, sweet Kay, I ever so much hope you'll be a happy streamer! BTW, did ya get an OTA antenna working fer ya yet?

But wasn't that after they were going to crack down on it hard, they saw the error in their ways which is good. More then we have done. This VPN thing sounds a little complicated to me but doable but I also heard Kodi is heading toward making it so pirating addons are not allowed. I don't really know about that but they do have their approved addons of which Exodus is not one.
