So if it is an Advanced Personal Vaporizer, can I call it a vaporizer?

Dats what I call it :) and when Im around my Mom or Dad, ( anyone older than me ) I call it "my vape thing" and they know what Im looking for. Seems the generation ahead of me thinks vaporizers as those things you used with Vicks Vapo-Rub and water at night to help you breathe. Those my sons age age ( and younger) get "it"

It's not like grammar and spelling rules are natural laws. Contractions in writing and split infinitives are two examples of things that have at one time been frowned upon, now less so except by some people that stick to their guns.

Languages evolve. We don't speak Shakespearean English, heck in the US we don't even speak English :) I've gotten into arguments with my Dad about using verbs as nouns, or vice-versa. "I texted you yesterday... " He insists that they are not nouns (or verbs), I say they weren't but now they are, common usage changes the rules. It's not something new, it's always been that way. Technology and the Internutz have only accelerated the evolution.

But I think we can all agree about the there/their/they're and it's/its rule-breakers. Screw those people.

Doesn't bother me much.
As long as they don't SMOKE their vape. That bugs me.
Oh man, tell me about it, one thing that also bugs me is people calling vapour/clouds/tootles SMOKE! I always find it's really cliché to say "It's vapour, not smoke" and I don't really want to be "that guy" and say "actually its vapour" but I try my best to educate them :)

Yep.. If you convert your flashlight to make vapor, then it's a mod.
If it's skinny and the tip glows, I guess that's an e-cigarette.
I would LOVE it if a new name caught on for the stuff I use...

"Where's my battery box?" (JuiceBox?)
"What do you think of my new, um...Nic-Inhaler?"

I frankly don't even like the term 'mod'. What exactly are we modifying? These are highly accurate, purpose built devices, not guitar pedals or whatever. Vape almost sounds better than mod right now.

The first non cig-a-like ecigs were modified flashlights, made by innovative individuals.
Eventually, people with machine shops started making mechanical devices which were called "mods" because they modified the design of a flashlight.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but sometimes I am amazed at what bothers people.

Me too. But then I wish people would stop using "discrete" when they mean something confidential. That would be DISCREET.

Homonyms, people! They're all over the place in English!
