Congrats man!

Sorry to hear your friends arent very supportive. As one person said, they may just be haters, or they may be misinformed. You mentioned you'd point out fallacies in the "experts" opinions - most people seem to think it's the nicotine that's evil and carcinogenic and such. It is kinda bad (read: lethal) in large doses; but so is caffeine!

Congrats SpiritBear :)

Small steps....... I`ve been thinking of quitting for ages and having smoked 40+ rollies a day never thought it would be possible without major physical and pychological repercussions but I`ve been smoke free for just over two months now thanks to the chance encounter with an E-cig :D
Sure I still use nicotine but I`ve quit the cigarettes and sometime down the line I`ll taper off the nicotine (will still continue vaping because I find it pleasurable :D)

You may want to keep vaping with nic content or not... it`s your choice:2cool: but the first hurdle has been passed and you will feel the health benefits! I recently had a check up at the Docs and my lung capacity has increased (he used the little blowing machine) since quitting, not by much yet as it`s early days and the 35 years have taken their toll, but it`s increasing and NOT decreasing which would be the case if I were still smoking!
The house smells better and I`ve taken to re-decorating the rooms to freshen them up as well :D
The car smells better!
There are loads of little things that improve and change as time passes so small steps mate :)

The beautiful thing about ecigs is that you can "step-down" the nic levels as you grow more accustomed to vaping. If you want, you can completely cut nicotine out after some time, but that's up to you.

The bottom line is that you have eliminated thousands of chemicals that you were inhaling with analogs and THAT's the milestone you should be celebrating. You are doing great...stick with it, and both you and your family will see the difference and benefits that it brings you....

Are these recommendations for New Flavors that I could reward myself with???!! Where do I get the Blue Whale, and the Rainbow?

Rainbow we have: Rainbow Sherbet

But whale??? (actually it's supposed to be a dolphin) doesn't matter, I don't know of anyone who carries those flavors. Will tuna do? Yummy Tuna!

My first 2 weeks were tough. I powered through and am almost 5 months in now with out a cig. I use a 12mg strength and will probably lower it slowly... I get weird looks, but seriously I could care less. I know what I am doing is a much healthier choice, and in the end, who honestly cares about what others think... I sure don't I just like the fact I can ride in my car w/o it stinking now and can vape with the windows up during the rainy season. I don't walk around with that god awful scent of .... haha

Really appreciate all the good words, folks. The support here on this Forum is just immense.

In all those years, I only tried once to quit. At the time, I was about 2 years into the habit. Made it for 3 days, and realized that my irritability factor was so high that there was risk of doing some real damage to my relationships, not to mention the risk of an unfortunate over-reaction to the activity level of the little toddler in the house. In brief: I scared myself and grabbed back onto those cigarettes like the life-preservers they *aren't*. It's been my One Vice, and I felt entitled to it ... not to mention that the world was a lot safer with me on the cigs. I never tried again until a month ago.

And the other thing is, I've never felt very defensive about the fact I smoked. On the contrary, I could be counted on to point out the fallacies in the opinions of supposed "experts" who vilified cigarettes at every turn. Reactions of some friends and family members to my quitting has been along the lines of "You? Quit smoking? Don't make me laugh ... but did you really? I thought you'd be the last smoker standing when the dust all cleared."

So having gone a month is not just a major achievement at a personal level, it's also probably kind of astounding.

I always said I was never going to quit, and I never really made a serious effort to do so for 25 years. But switch? Yeah I could do that, I'm coming up on a year in June and it still amazes me. Am I still addicted to nicotine? Yes. Do I feel massively better and am I, relatively speaking, much less likely to die from self inflicted lung cancer? Yup.

It's too bad more people aren't more supportive of the massive good vaping does for smokers who no longer smoke. But I also realize that they simply don't get it, they don't understand. Sometimes they are capable of listening and understanding, but some aren't , can't or won't. You can't win em all:)

You made a change to better you, ultimately, this is YOUR accomplishment. You deserve to pat yourself on the back and to celebrate in whatever fashion you deem appropriate. And you deserve recognition for the efforts you've made/make. Some people are incapable of recognizing the successes in the lives around them. Especially if it's not done the way THEY think is the way it should be. Shame on them for not being open minded enough to recognize that you have accomplished a fantastic thing! If they can't see the hard work and tremendous achievement you have accomplished, well, all I can say is I'm sorry for them.

Big Big CONGRATULATIONS to you!!!

When someone pulls the "you still need nicotine so you havent quit smoking" line, i stare blankly at them, blink comically until they get really uncomfortable and snap "what?", then i slowly and innocently say "youre, like, so stupid" with an awestruck look on my face.

Works every time. Used to try and reason with them, but i get tired of repeating myself.

Of course if its your family or close friends then explain to them clearly what youre doing and why. But if its just people, their approval is to me worth so much less than seeing their precious faces and embarrassed stutters after i do my thing.

COUSIN! Good to hear from a Western Cousin leaving European Tobacco products behind! I have just passed my three month mark and am going strong, still want a cigarette now and then but I just vape my head off until it passes.

Tobacco is an extremely tough challenge in our culture, we honor it and we abuse it. Towards this end I pride myself on buying from Vendors who use natural USA nicotine extract to continue to honor our tradition and I feel that vaping is accepted by the Spirit and Ancestors as a "Clean" alternative to smoking.

I have a message on my cell phone that is over two years old from a Cousin who passed from cancer. She is singing Happy Birthday to me. I was honored to finally quit smoking and start vaping on my Birthday, just after I listened to her message, as I do annually, Her Spirit has kept it from being purged from my voice mail, even though it should be long gone.

She was a stubborn smoker to the end, and I can't blame her, I loved her too much to criticize. But, there were people who did criticize her, one even gifting her a bible, (as if somehow she was ignorant of her Creator for smoking... she knew the Bible well without having to have one gifted to her). It made her cry, but she understood that sometimes good intentions get twisted in their application, she forgave them when she realized that at least she knew they cared.

Many people will misunderstand what you are doing and be critical, but ultimately it is all between you and your Creator and I'm sure The Spirit is pleased to see you taking better care of yourself. For some of us, it is the most The Spirit can expect!

I can see you have forgiven your friends for being critical, as you should, and have reached out to those who can give you the positive reenforcement you need. You are to be saluted for many positive things today, more than just switching to vaping, you have found Yourself and only Good Things can follow One who chooses such a Path!

If you had been on the nicotine patch for the last month, would those 2 people still think of you as a smoker? Probably not. They'd be cheering and encouraging your accomplishment! Ecigs do not get the credit they deserve because they "look" like smoking.

Anyway, congratulations on your milestone and here's to many more!!

That's a tough break right there Spiritbear, but one I deal with too. My wife gives me loads of support and I know she is proud of me, but my work friends and some others that I classed as friends have been a little, lets say, harsh about the vaping. I now no longer class them as friends and have moved on.

BUT, don't do it for their approval (even though that would be nice), do it for your health and well-being.

Congratulations from me - one month after 40 years is awesome .

I'm in kind of the opposite situation the people I work with couldn't be more supportive but I can't seem to get my wife on board. that was the big reason it has been so hard for me to quit, I would make it a few weeks the longest I went was a month but then I would sneak one in and her reaction would always be worse than if I had just kept smoking. when I switched to vaping I waited a while before I told her and there really hasn't been any difference in her attitude.

what I'm trying to say here is {MODERATED} em all, do it for yourself. when you reach a milestone like that reward yourself. you've got nothing to prove to anyone else. me I've gone 10 days longer than I ever have before, when I hit two weeks I'm buying a cake.

:toast:

This is a childish suggestion, but here it goes anyway. If "they" do it again, just tell them: "Well, I could never measure up to your idea of perfection, not that I'm trying to. You're responsible for the decisions you make in your life, and so am I. The difference between us is that I keep my mouth shut when you make what I feel are stupid choices." And then blow a large plume of vapor.

Seriously, you deserve CONGRATULATIONS on your achievement. I was a 40 plus years smoker when I found ecigs and I've been smoke free for 14 months now. I don't even miss cigarettes, sitting here enjoying Creme de Menthe and Black Label RY4 from Spring Vapor.

Vape on and don't look back!:vapor:

As was stated before, don't do it for anyone but yourself. Might be a bummer not getting as much support from friends as you'd hoped but in the long run you'll be the one smiling. Vaping is still very new and most people don't have the knowledge and information we do. Over time it will be more and more accepted. Congrats my dude!
