I read in a post that KR 808d cartomisers will work with a 901 battery is this true.

No I am afraid not, unless you mod it. There is an airflow issue. The 901 atty has an airhole, cartomizers do not.
You can get the adapter at Vapor Country - i'm using it right now on a KR80D with a 901 connector on Chuck.
