Why am I hearing lately? - to have an 808 passthrough you need at least 2 amps. Earlier threads the main consensus was at least 1 amp. I've had a 5v/1amp power source for over a month now. It works great. Better than my batteries! So why now 2 amps? I'm using premium cartos (Vapor Nine Turbos) and I'm getting great performance - Awesome TH/Vapor production!

I'll go ahead and buy the 2 amp if someone can tell me what it is I'm missing in performance? I know what a good TH and vapor production is all about so I guess I'm a little confused as to why now it has to be 2 amps?

What exactly am I going to notice? Is it a night and day difference? If someone can tell me what kind of improvements were gained upping it to 2 amps then please speak up.

Thanks

Hi,
I'm not sure either but I know I got a 200mah/2amp for my wife to use in her vehical. Only cause of the new 808 PT that V4L sells and I think it helps with the PT to last longer (less wear and tear) andto help protect the fuse in the vehical.. You might want to ask in the V4L forum.. Maybe you can get a quicker answer there?

Kqeiger002,

I know that I am going to sound like a geek, but it is the only way I know to explain.

The 808 carto has a resistance of around 2.5 ohms. When you use them on a battery…the 3.7 volt battery supplies about 1.5 amps. That is about 5 watts of heat going to the catro.
Think of this like a 5 watt light bulb. Those 5 watts are what heat up your e-juice to give you “smoke”, TH, and flavor.

When you use a wall plug for the pass-through the voltage from it is 5 volts. Using the same carto that you used on a battery (2.5 ohms) that works out to 2 amps that the carto wants to use. This works out to 10 watts of power that the carto is using.

If your wall plug can only supply 1 amp then one of the following things are going to happen:

  • The 1 amp wall plug will “try” to supply the carto with the 2 amps it wants even thought it is only rated at 1 amp. This will make the wall plug work harder. This will shorten the life of the wall plug. It could also make it fail in a way that is not nice (fire). It is trying to supply 10 watts when it is only rated for 5 watts.

  • The 1 amp wall plug will try to supply the 2 amps, but the wall plug will only allow 1 amp max because it was built in the USA and has safety built in…..lol (This is better that the above one). 5 volts at 1 amp is 5 watts of power (just like a battery). So this wall plug will make your carto “smoke, TH, and taste just like a battery”.

Everything I said about goes out the window if your PT has an inline battery. In that case the wall plug is only charging that battery and the carto is running off of the battery.

Bottom line is… If your wall plug is ratted for 5 volts at 1 amp it will ether burn out (1) or act just like a battery (2).

The one I use is ratted for 5 volts at 2.5 amps. (It is an old Net Gear power supply. These things are built like a tank). When I use mine I notice that I get more “smoke, TH, and flavor”. Will it shorten the life of my carto, maybe? I have been using this for over a month and have not killed one yet.
