I own the v 1.1 Kraken that was released in the November batch and I'm very pleased with it. It produces the most vapor and flavor out of all the attys I've tried. I use it with wire rope (very similar to the one that was supplied with it), flat ribbon Kenthal @ 0.60 Ohms and you can vape that thing completely vertical.

A little over a month goes by and pictures of the new brass Kraken surface just in time for the Holidays. A friend of mine who I've recently introduced to mechanical mods just bought his in brass along with the hammer by Kato. The brass Kraken has a mate finish which doesn't exactly perfectly match a polished brass device. It's close but if you look at it carefully you can see the difference. I wonder if one could polish the brass Kraken and not mess up the engravings.

As far as I know, and I've searched for this, there is no option to purchase the outer sleeve (cap) of the Kraken which is the only part that's brass. I'd love to be proven wrong though. Does anyone know?

the brass?

that tip is beautiful!

i'm finding i'm using my Kraken less, now that I have my KFL+.. the KFL+ is just so easy to set up, with no worries of leaking, and the flavour and vape is great!

going to try and revisit the Kraken tonight, make a nice new mesh and coil, and see how it holds up against the KFL+...

those of you using just SS mesh, do you guys have any difficulty getting the coils to light up evenly?

30AWG kanthal wire with 4 coils roughly 1Ohm.

I find that my top two coils always burn brighter than the bottom two. occasionally get hot spots which require readjusting. reflecting on my first post, this Kraken is a bit of a ..... to set up compared to my RSST or KFL+...

Not at all... I run the same setup, coil gauge size and wrap amount and get 1.1ohms even burn. My question to you is how do you have the leads going to and from to positive and negative leads? I've had quite a few RBAs and this one is the easiest to wrap and go I've ever used :)
I have found from multiple builds that the same amount of positive coil lead should be the same length as the negative. To early to draw out but if it makes since.... Put the negative down and wrap coil around the wick on the outter side of the post and wrap around coil counterclockwise then at positive wrap from left side around :) pulsate the coils, adjust and your ready :) hope this helps

Kraken + New Quartz Tank (*yes I broke my tank the first 48 hours having it!!)
Vanilla Mod
Vapelyfe Brass tip
Alice in Vapeland - Zombie Apocalypse e-juice

Beware! The kraken will made your device top heavy, be careful when you set your device on your kitchen counter, it may just randomly fall and shatter like mine did!

Thanks to the awesome people at Bedazzle Glass Tubes! Their website you can buy all types of replacement tanks and o-rings!

thanks man!! i get what you mean and am going to try it out tonight. i think my error was that i tightened down at the negative with the kanthal on the inner aspect of the screw, and coiled starting from the outside of the mesh, then ended at the positive pole. this resulted in a much shorter negative lead than positive...

i'm such a doofus hahaha thanks for the tip!!!

so i tried recoiling my ss mesh as odogg_mia suggested and i'm back to enjoying the kraken!! coils light up evenly from top to bottom now and no more hot spots :)

i've got two strands of SS rope that came with the tank which i havent used yet; is it an improvement to do a SS rope wick + ekowool at the coiling region over the SS mesh? i've never used SS rope before. also, has anyone tried SS mesh+ekowool top?

My first build on the kraken vicious ant consisted of single 400 torched mesh, ekowool wrapped at the top, and 4 wraps of 28 awg kanthal(.8 ohm). Cool vape, good cloud production and flavor. 2nd build consisted of dual 7 wrap coils with 28 awg and organic cotton wicks(.7 ohm) Great flavor, great clouds, and a cool vape. My latest build consists of dual 5 wrap micro coils with 28 awg and organic cotton wicks(.55 ohm). Produces a warm vape with intense flavor and cloud production. I enjoyed the cooler vape with the non micro coils so i may revert back to the previous setup but will roll with this dual micro setup for a bit.

IMO and that of most SS rope is superior to anything else out there when it comes to wicking. It carries the juice to the coils so well and so quick that you don't even need to tilt the device. You could vape it completely vertical if you wanted. The only drawback that I've experienced is that it does the job a little too well. What I mean by it is that it results in me having to refill the tank more often because of how quickly it uses up the juice. I also use the SS rope with flat ribbon kanthal and I think that makes matters worse. I used to go through a tank of 3 mil per day tops (with another atty) and I have to fill up the 2.5 mil of the Kraken twice per day with my current setup. That adds up quite a lot monthly.

I'm just using a cotton yarn single coil but dual wick build. Do I need to use a mesh wrap? I just got mine today and built it.

I've never used SS mesh wraps on any cotton builds, so hopefully others will chime in.
The only benefit I can imagine is that the mesh will protect your wick and make it last longer between re-wicks.
For a faster cotton wicking build, which is a problem when using cotton in Genny's, see my previous build a few pages back or
come up with something yourself that utilizes as much wick on the deck before entering the coil(s) to facilitate faster wicking with
cotton.

Great flavor with cotton, but low sub-ohm builds and chain vaping are a no-no in my experience.

Hope this helps.

What material is that you are wicking with? I went from rsst with ceramic(great results) to a kraken(clone) and cannot for the life of me get wicking correct.

But when I got a kfl+(clone), couldn't get it to stop working right If I tried.

Best I could get one my kraken was silica to wick, with cotton bed at top, and a nice microcoil.
