I have jerry rigged many a mix. I am rather fond of baking equipment for example. I mix my nic base using cups and ratios.
I will say, premixed base (if you are prepared to be a tad flexible about your nic level from time to time although I almost always use about 10% flavoring) is the best thing since sliced bread. I don't like scale mixing as much.
One time, I could not find my syringes and it so happens that a teaspoon is almost exactly 5 ml, which is what I happened to need for flavoring so I had a great time dripping into those. They were metal, so a quick rinse and wipe off.... On to the next. My mixes turned out fine and dandy.
The most essential thing you need is ingredients and it sounds like you have a handle on that just fine

.
Just however you do it HAVE fun, is my recommendation. A happy mixologist leads to a happy mix, REGARDLESS of how you do it. I do use my syringes and whatnot too, but EVERYTHING is optional.
I don't got for mixers, shakers or anything mechanical like that, but I've been at this a while and time, and the occasional shake are great.
I don't know if it's been mentioned but I consider one flavor tester mixes to be somewhat essential. That's what I started with and then would combine stuff in my
tank. Not exactly the same as steeping, but it gave me ideas. I don't do it as much now, but I still do sometimes.
Also-- Never toss a mix without trying to fix it. I have learned more trying to fix my failed mixes than all of my successes have taught me.
The exception being the time I mixed a Margarita flavor with a gin and tonic flavor in the same bottle.... LOL it was, well I bet it could've stripped paint.
I am happy to report I have mixed for others, others who would TELL me if I my mix was horrible to them, so that boosted my confidence especially when they came back for more.
Just keep your chin up keep mixing, it's ALWAYS entertaining, even if it is sometimes terrible. Even then, LOL.
