Fortunately (knock on wood) we haven't had to give any injections to any of our pets. I don't think I would be able to do it - I have a 'thing' about needles...

My daughters had parakeets for awhile when they were young, but I'm not too crazy about birds. My mom has a parrot that she's had for a little over 30 years. We've watched him a few times when she was on vacation, but now she has her neighbor come over and feed him when she goes out of town.

I'm much better with needles when they're aimed at other people/critters. It takes two people to give shots to my dogs. one to hold the dog still, the other to use the needle. but i imagine it would be even more difficult to give shots to a turtle. With furries there's no shell that gets in the way.

It's true some people find birds scary. We often ask new visitors if they'd like us to put 'the kids' in their cages.

Re birds and cats- A Rainbow Lorrikeet used to tease my cat by calling it and then sticking out his brush-like tongue. That tongue had the cat hiding under the couch crying. Then the ratbag in the cage would call the cat again. We never left them in the same room alone and certainly did not let the bird out of his cage while the cat was there.

Never seen a Lorikeet tongue? They are scary- I was going to attach a pic but thought better of it. Very reminiscent of alien. The curious (and the strong stomached) are advised to Google Image it.

My previous dog, Lily. We only had Lily for two years, she was a rescue and we lost her to kidney failure. But she was an unbelievable dog, a true old soul.

And my first dog and still the best friend I ever had, Poochanne. You can tell by her name that I was 9 when we adopted her.

I absolutely adore birds and have had, over time, parakeets, cockatiels, and a magpie. Unfortunately, they were all murdered by my cats/dogs. We were once at Arbuckle Wilderness park up in Oklahoma, (took the kids), and there was the most gorgeous scarlet macaw in there. She really took a liking to me and flew over to me and rode around on my shoulder the entire time we were in the gift shop. She kept rubbing her head on my cheek and saying VERY loudly in my ear, 'Charro loooooooooves you'. When it was time for us to leave the shop, she would not willingly get off of my shoulder. She wrapped one foot into my curly hair and held on for dear life and screamed and snapped at anyone who tried to remove her from me. Oh my goodness I wanted that bird. The shop keeper said that she had never seen Charro take to anyone the way she took to me that day. When I finally was able to escape outside the shop w/o her, I could hear her screaming, 'Mama! Mama! Mama!' I think she was screaming for me...broke my heart.

Oh my goodness, that would have broken my heart! The neighbor kid has a parrot that loves to scream, "MANUEL! MANUEL!" and then make a slow declining whistle and shout "FIRE"! The bird watches too many video games.

Giving a turtle a shot is hard. It's tough to give it to him without him pulling into his shell - I feel awful for having to hold his leg out when he's trying so hard to wiggle back into his protection zone.

Oh Tiger, I can imagine that must have broken your heart! Poor Charro!

My Tasha does NOT like change. She's the quintessential scaredy cat. Well, our back yard has an excavator in it, and it's digging up our sewer line. Right now there's a HUGE pile of dirt, as high as the basement story, right outside the patio door. She's one of the four who spend nights downstairs. Guess who didn't want to go downstairs for the night? She took one look at that mountain of dirt and ran back upstairs! She finally slinked back down, and I got the door closed and gave all of the quads some treats. She seems OK. Not totally relaxed, but OK, LOL. Now hubby and I can go out to dinner and celebrate his annual cardiology visit being done until next year. His cholesterol is too low! LOL Guess some pizza will help that!
