My best friend of many years and former roommate had a little black poodle named Mindy who thot she was a Doberman! :) Anyway, she'd take Mindy to the groomer's and they'd put the cute little pink bows on her ears and paint her toenails. When she got home, Mindy would tuck her tail and skulk into the closet or under the furniture and STAY there until she got rid of those bows and chewed the polish off her nails!! You could tell from her body language she was emBARassed!! I harangued my friend about it until she finally stopped having them do it!!

LOL! My grandparents next door neighbors always had Standard Poodles - one of their boys was very sensitive to the quality of his haircut, and if the groomer made any kind of mistake (even one leg a fraction longer than the other, or a too poofy tail), instead of coming to my grandmothers window to say hi every day (he loved her), he would HIDE until it grew out, and would sometimes refuse to go into the backyard to relieve himself until after dark so no one could see him. lol
My mom's bichon loved being dressed up, and really loved having pretty scarves & things around her neck, but she was VERY sensitive to what she wore, and if she didn't like an outfit, she would sit facing the wall & refuse to move. The duck costume I bought her for Halloween did NOT go over well. The first time we put it on her, she marched over to the wall & sat down. I picked her up & brought her over to the couch, at which point she jumped up on the arm of the sofa, and... faced the wall - apparently she thought that if she couldn't see us, we couldn't see her  too bad, because that costume was so darn cute on her!

Flip side of Mindy, was Sophie, the dobie I had as a teenager, who pranced every time she had her nails painted. She preferred red :D

What obliterates fire ants?!?! I got attacked while walking the dogs last summer, and am on a mission to rid our condo community of them lol

edited to add: I love feed stores! They always seem to have an organic alternative :)

Okay Cheeky, and anyone else who's interested! The non-poison stuff for fireants is Ascend (I FINALLY remembered to check into it!). According to the feedstore owner (a buddy) who used it on his place, it's pricey, but a little goes a loooooooong way! He said instead of the directions on the package, he laid it out in a 4' x 4' grid and got rid of literally ACRES of mounds! It's a bait that's apparently pretty irrestible to fireants, so they rush rush to take it to the pampered queen and it sterilizes her! And any other queens in the mound! If ours start coming back, I'm going to use it and I'm going to take my son some because they have an ongoing problem in their yard and my toddler grandson keeps getting into them. Apparently my thing with them not bothering me much is hereditary, because after the initial "fire" for just a few seconds, they don't do much to him but itch, but obviously they still want to get rid of them!

Good luck!

LOVE IT!

I work in Hospice and we have 2 cairn terriers that visit the patients every few days.
Does your guy ever visit hospice patients?

Sometimes a dog to love and pet will make the pain better like almost nothing else could...

The last time I posted in a pet thread, I had a beautiful staffordshire bull terrier named Manson. He passed in June, at 10 years old.

Now, I have a Rat Terrier, Norman, and also a cat (or Kiki, as Norman calls him) named Squash. Norm is about 10 months old to the best of my knowledge. He's laying up next to me in my recliner as I type this!

Thanks for the kind words, ladies!

Norman has grown some since that picture, but Squash still is bigger. Norm is about 10 pounds and Squash is 15. LOL Squash is 10 years old and still catches all kinds of critters despite his big cat-bell. He does not take any crap from Norm!

Lettuce, they are adorable and that is exactly how my guys lay in my lap, too!

So, WHISKEY (lol) is that an Easy Walk Harness on that big fuzzy guy?

Too cool! Another member with therapy dogs! All 3 of my 'pit bulls' are working therapy dogs, (certification thru TDI), and I am currently working with my youngest Chihuahua to have her certified as well.

Of my three Chis, Bella is the only one suitable in temperament to become a therapy dog, (the other two are typical Chis who just don't like anyone other than people that they see all of the time). As the 'pit bulls' now work in various areas other than Hospice, I intend to use Bella as a Hospice dog because she is very, very tiny, (under 3lbs.), and I think she would be ideal to sooth those who are in such terrible physical pain as hospice patients are.

Teddy Michael, my Maine .... cat who passed away 01/02/2012 was also a therapy animal. He just loooooooved it when he got to visit his elderly nursing home patients. He was wonderful with them.

Yay Tiger, more therapy dogs! and even better, of a breed that is so misunderstood, yet so intelligent and loving. Not only do you do good for people who you visit, but it does wonders for pit bulls when people can learn what great dogs they can be.

I didn't know you could certify cats for pet therapy- that's also really cool :)
