ok,, first kitty question.... when should I worry if he doesn't start drinking... Ive put him down by his drinking fountain , but he prefers to stay up on the levels in the cat house... I've picked him up at 11 am .... it's now 4:30 mp I think I have a srynige if I need to start with that. Same with food... I have some hard kitty food from the breeder and some raw food from her.

he is 12 wks old and had his shots and neutered yesterday but I don't see any stiches.. can they do tiny kitties differently then dogs? lol guess that is my second question lol lol ... can talk to the breeder about the neuter lol ... I just don't see anything like I do on dogs, but they have bigger parts lol ...

I wouldn't worry about it too much yet - he's probably a little freaked out by the new surroundings. If he hasn't touched any food or water by tomorrow, try using the syringe.

I didn't originally come here to reply to that, though - wanted to share a cute picture of Mr. Marley, he was showing quite the interest in hubby's rba yesterday... LOL

He probably feels safer on higher levels. Once he gets used to his surroundings and feels comfortable he'll probably come down to floor level. I wouldn't worry too much, especially if he's eating the raw food, which I assume has a lot of moisture in it. The reason I try to get my cats to eat mostly canned food is because it has so much moisture in it. Raw food is even better, assuming it's made properly, and I just don't have the time or patience to do the raw food thing. If you can put a bowl of food on a higher level for him he might drink some.

As far as sutures, I never had any issues with my boys. Three of the girls had been spayed shortly before we got them, and Daisy had two stitches dehisce, but the boys were no problem. Some cats, though, including several of mine, just plain feel lousy after their vaccinations.

Patricia, I hope I didn't scare you about cats not getting enough fluids! The problem is when they don't get enough on a long-term basis. Our last cat had renal failure, and when I got these guys and started researching on line I discovered that they don't have a thirst mechanism. Then read that chronic dehydration leads to renal failure, and felt horrible guilty thinking if I'd known better I might have prevented Squeaky's kidney disease. When we got him (December 1992) I didn't have a computer and hadn't heard about the internet yet! The vet never mentioned canned food being better for him. I fed him primarily dry food, Meow Mix, Purina, etc. Now I know that not only does that stuff have mostly corn, which cats can't digest, but canned food is better for them so they get enough fluid. When he was diagnosed with renal disease we had to bring him to the vets to have his BUN checked, and if it was high they gave him subcutaneous fluids. Even then, no one said anything about canned food being better for him. <sigh> At least I know he died of liver failure, not kidney failure, so I didn't kill him! But I still feel awfully guilty!

Anyway, it sounds like you're feeding Azamet an ideal diet. Cats in the wild don't drink from fountains, LOL. They don't really even drink from streams, puddles, etc. They get the necessary moisture from their raw food! Mice don't come in cans

it's ok CM am glad you share... At least I will be more aware and yes try not to be too panic'd but lol.. we are hopeless wanting to do the best for them...

was going to get a cute sweet picture of Azamet to share but... lol This is his "I'm not impressed with the big fluffy muppet behind you" (Arka).. Azamet is a sweetie over all... Love him... Adele spent some time with Azamet today,, and it was worth every bit of chicken for ignoring everything Azamet was doing...

Arka was at the baby gate having a growling contest with Azamet... Kitten cracks me up.. getting out of his perch jumping to the nearest level toward Araka and giving it right back at him... I just sat at the cat house gate watching them exchange... Then Arka slowly backed away from the baby gate and didn't come back azamet 12.jpg .. and Azamet came back to the perch to continue our petting lol lol lol lol ... OK ....

ok Funny story.. I read CM post that cats are pretty good at keeping their footing so this morning ' I'm like ok,, he'll be fine" and sit on the floor with the dogs to help them with the hole cat training situation.. 5 to 10 minutes in (splat) Azamet tumbles down lands at the paws of 3 dogs laying on the floor... lol ... Kitty is fine but if you had see the "what the" looks on all the dogs faces you would be busting laughing as I was... Hugs CM... all in good humor don't take it wrong.. it was hilarious....

Azamet is too far back in the second picture to fit him in I just liked how Arka's head turned out...

ROFL Patricia. OK, so your cat is a klutz, LOL. I posted that because I thought you might be remembering what I said about getting rid of our cat tree in case that caused Penny's broken leg and I didn't want you to worry about it. The only time any of our cats have fallen off of anything was when they were wrestling with a sibling. Well, except Tasha. She doesn't have a sibling. She was trying to jump onto the tree one night and didn't make it. Landed right on her .... and bruised her tail, poor baby.

Our cats really loved their tree.

That's Basil on the middle level and Angus below him.

All 3 of the triplets on the top level. They were babies then, they wouldn't all fit there now!

I couldn't see them either...But i love the first set of Patricia's pictures and the pictures of your kitties in the cat tree, Catmom

It sounds like getting the dogs accommodated to a new kitten is going pretty well, if landing right in front of them didn't wreak havoc :)

Welcome to ECF and the women's room Julie. Nice to meet you :)
