Ladies only... girly problems anyone?

Ok.. lets cut to the crap right off the bat...

Guys.. we know that this thread is not relevant to you even if you are a lesbian in a mans body as so many of you are... please don't waste space... if you don't have a Uterus and/or a Vagina.. don't post here!!

And...

I know what you are thinking.. I am talking about a "friend" in this post... but I seriously am. A friend who is a newbie just told me this and I wanted to see if it had any medical relevance especially since I study the field of sexuality.

Below are the emails we sent back and forth...

From XXXX
Ladies, I see you both on the forum quite a bit, and I have a "woman" question for you that I don't really want to post. I started vaping about 10 days ago. I bought xxx and a xxxxx of juice from xxxxxxxx, and some VG juice. I bought the VG after reading about reactions. I have been using the juice equally as often as each other. Anyway, I got the worst yeast infection EVER. Have you heard of that? Has anyone ever complained about it? I bought some Monistat yesterday and used it last night. I feel much better today, but I don't want it to come back again. Any ideas? Thanks so much for listening!

Response from me...

In answer to your question... I have not had a yeast infection since I started vaping in January.

I do teach human sexuality though... and I know that adding stuff and subtracting stuff from your body can throw off your acidity level down there. I suggest taking some acidopholous pills or having some yogurt the first 2 weeks until your body gets used to the change.

I also just thought about what Tropical Bob said about the PG being a germicide and that could also have something to do with it... maybe it is such a strong germicide that it kills the bacteria down there?

I would suggest trying ONLY PG for 2-3 weeks and then ONLY VG for 2-3 weeks (start counting after the Monistat works 100% though) and see if one or the other "causes" it.

If you don't mind.. maybe I will post a new thread on this (I will not use your info.. I wil say a "friend" told me they had that experience... even tho I am sure it will get lots of "yeah.. your FRIEND" lol! I don't really care...) it may be important to see if anyone else is having that experience. .. so in the name of science I will make the post if it is okay with you.

(End email)

And so... if any of you ladies had a similar problem and don't want to post about it.. please PM me and I will post the responses anonymously without your names or usernames so we can see if we can figure this out.

And as far as other weird stuff down there... many people say their pee smells weird too. Seems like just waste product of the PG or VG. Maybe related? Who knows...

I apologize for chiming in on this, given I don't have the required parts, but my wife had very bad yeast infections that even Monistat would not completely cure for a while before we got married (been together since '02, got married in '07). My wife and me got in on the ePuffer scandal and are waiting on Ben from VaporNine to get back before we have ecigs again... but I wanted to say that in the 2 weeks she was vaping more than smoking (6mg and 8mg tobacco PG) she didn't seem to have any problems... but as we didn't get to do it for very long we'll have to wait and see if this ever arises for her.

Spikey, it would be good if you could have this thread moved to the health section, it won't get lost so easily over there.

This was my reply to the sender of the message:

"I think you mean you have thrush. Sorry to hear that, I used to get it all the time and it's very irritating.

Apparently it's do do with the balance of sugars and acids present. Try reducing your sugar intake if you can.

I can't remember anything else about what's good, hopefully Spikey knows more.

If it was caused by vaping I probably would have got it, I get it easily. It's probably coincidence that it's happened when you started vaping or the changing chemicals in your body have brought sugars and acidity out of line. Your body will probably adjust by itself.

All sorts of side effects have been reported to do with quitting smoking and vaping but this is the first time I've heard of this one. ..."

Sorry.. I should have specified it is okay to comment on experiences of someone you know with a Uterus or Vagina :) Thanks for the input!

thrush? Hmm.. never heard that before.

I thought about posting it in the health section... but many newbies don't find that section until after these symptoms may have already passed and they may forget thay even had them. That was why I decided to post it here. I can ask a mod to move it if you think it will be better there tho. Maybe people with this problem woudl go there to look anyway? If you want.. ask someone to move it over there.. otherwise I will do it when I get home from class tonight.

Ok..my wife has a vagina so I guess I can post as her proxy. A very common reason for a yeast infection is the change in the 'environment' after a good dose of antibiotics. Did your friend finish a course recently?

yep and add any "sugar" increase from the PG for fuel and off it goes....

For me sugar was the key...cut back on it when you can especially if you're taking antibiotics. Adding the yogurt helps as well.

(I know...TMI...but we're mostly adults here and if they can advertise Monistat on TV then we can talk about it here.)

Edit: Thrush is a ..... too. When I was consuming lots of sugar and using my asthma inhalers, if I didn't rinse my mouth and throat after inhaling I get that nasty ****. Makes your mouth uber-sensitive and NOTHING has any taste.

I was just passing by, I clicked on this by accident, I swear!

Spikey, I remembered well:

Allergic reaction

Patients with vulvodynia and interstitial cystitis may be especially sensitive to propylene glycol. Women struggling with yeast infections may also notice that some OTC creams can cause intense burning. Post menopausal women who require the use of an estrogen cream may notice that brand name creams made with propylene glycol often create extreme, uncomfortable burning along the vulva and perianal area. In these cases, patients can request that a local compounding pharmacy make a "propylene glycol free" cream.

This all refers to, you guess, PG. Seems like is really screwing something down there (talk about proper word choosing anyone? =P soz i just had to write it this way! ).

So I'd suggest to tell her to start her 2 weeks trial period with VG, and hopefull it will all work out fine.

Hoping the best for your friend, I have seen some close friends suffering a whole lot for their girly problems =/

No yeast infections, and I've been vaping like a fiend since January. Then again, I eat yogurt a few times a week. :)

But it wouldn't surprise me at all to hear that vaping might be associated with yeast infections in women who are otherwise susceptible. Some women just seem to get yeast infections so easily. :(

That figures. This needs to go in the Classified/Swap section, but who wants to buy a bunch of PG juice????

Thanks to everyone who posted so far...

smo - I do remember reading that when I was looking up info about PG allergies after I realized I was allergic.

I should have remembered that!

I will try to bump this post up every few days to be sure people see it.

Will also send the link to my friend since it moved in case she didn't see that.

Thanks all!

Let's not be too hasty to stop using propylene glycol eliquid, those problems Smo mentioned refer to direct application of propylene glycol, not inhaling.

Chances are that you can't inhale more than 2ml per day. Lots will be exhaled and the rest broken down in your body. That's not a lot of pg in the grand scheme of things, you probably eat more than that without noticing.

I'm not convinced that inhaling a couple of ml would cause this particular problem. The thing to do would be to use glycerine for a while until everything is clear and stable and then try pg again.

Well I have had a yeast infection but then I get them fairly often. I am a clean person honest. I would mention that alot of my yeast infections are because of me suffering from migraines. I cant use tampons as I get yeast infections. I also have IBS which doesnt help that either. I am chemically unballanced in many ways so not sure if this info would really help you.

I do eat yogart quite often (activia) and with the meds I take it helps maintain my IBS to a tollerable level. I also eat plain yogart once I get a yeast infection so they go away pretty quick.

Now I am not sure if this is true or not but I hear if your sex schedule changes and becomes inactive your body reacts to that too and can cause issues.

While I dont believe my yeast infections are because of Vaping I cant say that I am sure either.

My IBS reacted badly with the PG... put me out of commission for a couple days.

Being either more OR less active sexually can increase susceptibility to yeast infections.

Also... not exactly relevant to the main thread.. but important to share... is that using ANTIbacterial SOAP can cause yeast infections and bacterial vaginal infections. I never got bacterial infections and then got a few in a row and kept telling the Dr how extraordinarily clean I was and he finally asked what kind of soap I use "down there" and put 2 and 2 together! NO antibacterial soap down there people!!!

off-topic, but is there a link between smokers and IBS? Never seen so many in a non-IBS forum. (lol, me too!)

Hmmm... interesting! Maybe we should start composing a list of potential illnesses/symptoms and make a survey on surveymonkey?

Maybe...
Age
Country
length of time smoking (and amount per day)
length of time vaping (and amount per day)
general health before vaping
health since vaping
and then a checklist of symptoms.

I will look into this next week on spring break and see how much it would cost to set up.
