Hey dudes and dudettes,

I picked up an eGo and want to use an XL style cartomizer that I am told will not work with a standard eGo cone.

When I was just a lurker on these forums I remember seeing a thread that had a link to an XL compatible cone (I believe it wasn't tapered, just a cylinder).

Does anyone have one of these cones and have experience with it and XL cartos, and do you have any links to a site I could buy one from? Preferably one that will ship to Canada.

Thanks in advance for any info.

When I first started to use Cartomizers on my eGo, I spend hours pealing of the vinyl cover of the cart to make them fit inside the cone. Then it dawned on my, just make the hole bigger.

So I layed a piece of 220 sand paper on my work bench and sanded the small cone end until it excepted the carto. Keep the cone at a right angle to the sand paper and turn the cone after 5 or 10 passes on the sand paper.

Not that I'm aware of. Anyone else? Joye makes a standard size 510 cartomzer that fits inside the eGo atty cover (cone as I think you're referring to it) and eGo specific cartomzers (higher capacity) that still fit the same atty cover. After that they go down the path of some atomzers that have their own attached covers and use specific cartridges - Cone or Mega. Unless someone found an atty cover from another manufacturer that fits the eGo battery threading and fits this situation.

So you sanded the outside of the cone? Or do you put the sandpaper inside and make the hole bigger? I have heard of other people doing this but I could never figure out exactly how to do it.

I used a tapered punch on the small end of my cones. Going from the threaded end will damage the threads.
I mount a block of wood in a vise, set the cone on the wood block small end up, drive the punch in a little until you can see the cone spread. If the punch sticks inside the cone, tap the punch on something solid (i.e. the vise) and it will easily dislodge.
Check for fit over a carto. If it's still tight, repeat the process.

AH, that makes more sense, good idea, I'll give er a shot.

I don't have belt sander so I just put the sand paper flat on my work bench and rub the small end of the cone one it.

Kinda like the way you erase a pencil mark with a pencil eraser. Takes longer than with a belt sander but you have to do what you have to do when you don't have a power tool.

Go slow and make sure to keep the cone at a right angle to the work bench. Helps to rotate the cone ever 5 or 6 passes.

BTW - The sand paper on the work bench tech works great for all kinds of things beside sanding an eGo cone.

These were both super helpful. I modded one and ordered another.

Thanks so much guys

Good to here it worked for you.

Buying thing is good but making things better or modifing things is what a work bench is all about. Not saying that they allways come out great but where else can you relax with a beer and look like your working ;)
