That's what I'm known for.

When people ask me questions in meat life I will often ask "do you really want to know the answer to that?" and about half the time they look at me for a bit and say "no, not if you have to ask me that." :)

No one ever just responds with "of course" more than once

Well, maybe they were just letting you know there might be more of a delay than you were expecting.

It's possible...

well, they said yesterday that it would take at least 3 days to get the BG checks back and that is the only thing that would keep me from getting the job. then I get the email today.

There you go. There's quite possibly some corporate policy that they have to interview a minimum number of candidates--if it takes at least three days for the background checks then there couldn't be anything there yet to "disqualify" you.

When I applied for the position that eventually led me to this one, I was told that I had the job. They still had to interview four more people in order to be able to hire anyone, but that my qualifications (13 years experience) were perfect and no one else that had applied had anything in their history even related to the job. They called me back a couple days later to apologize, but they had been "instructed" to hire another candidate. Two weeks later I had the job.

Don't stop looking, but keep in mind that they didn't tell you that you didn't get the job, just that they had to look at more people. You never know what kind of "political" crap is going on behind the scenes, but I'd say there's still at least a 50/50 shot the job's yours...

:)

I am keeping an open mind about it. They were very straight forward about everything. They had five of us there and told us that they could have 15 employees and currently had 10 but were firing 4 and that the five of us would be taking their spots along with 5 other people they had to interview and the 10 of us were guaranteed hires unless the BG check came back with something.

There was a young guy there that had forgotten his id and when he was asked if it was an id or a license, he said it was an id and the manager said that could be preventing him from getting jobs. The guy was confused and asked how and the manager explained that if you don't have a license then they can deny you employment because they can't say for sure you have reliable transportation. I also do not have a license or credit, which is something they could flag me for or so the guy said.

The license thing has always confused me. It makes sense on the face of it, and is logical for places (like Frankfort) that don't have decent public transportation. But there are logical fallacies with that "justification":

1. Most places that require you to have a license in order to assure you have "reliable transportation" never bother to ask if you have a car. I have actually gotten a job at a place like that even after informing them I didn't have a car.

2. People without a license still have to function, and in most communities that means being able to get around, i.e. having transportation

3. I've known countless people who either rode a bike to work or relied on busses or cabs to get to work. None of them ever missed work with the excuse "my bike isn't running" or "the bus broke down." They may have been late, but they caught a ride/bus/cab and went to work. People with cars have a tendency to just call in if their "reliable transportation" isn't operational...

But, of course, none of that changes the fact that the manager's point is valid insofar as companies actually operate :glare:

The manager even said one of the guys was getting fired because he had to call in three times because his car wouldn't start. I dunno, I'm going to wait for a few days and call up there. He said when he sends them in the company digs into your past and present and then emails him on whether we are cleared by the company and if we weren't he would give us the number to the company and we could call and ask why we were turned down. Said that happened to him and he called and they told him it was because of credit problems and he cleared it up and got the job and now six years later he is the manager.
