The guy was confused and asked how and the manager explained that if you don't have a license then they can deny you employment because they can't say for sure you have reliable transportation. I also do not have a license or credit, which is something they could flag me for or so the guy said.
The license thing has always confused me. It makes
sense on the face of it, and is logical for places (like Frankfort) that don't have decent public transportation. But there are logical fallacies with that "justification":
1. Most places that require you to have a license in order to assure you have "reliable transportation" never bother to ask if you have a car. I have actually gotten a job at a place like that even after informing them I didn't have a car.
2. People without a license still have to function, and in most communities that means being able to get around, i.e. having transportation
3. I've known countless people who either rode a bike to work or relied on busses or cabs to get to work.
None of them ever missed work with the excuse "my bike isn't running" or "the bus broke down." They may have been late, but they caught a ride/bus/cab and went to work. People with cars have a tendency to just call in if their "reliable transportation" isn't operational...
But, of course, none of that changes the fact that the manager's point is valid
insofar as companies actually operate
