I do not think banning them is a good idea. I think people would illegally make menthol cigs and there would be a black market. But I don't think this will go far to begin with. I understand what the people pushing for the ban are wanting to help...but I don't think it would happen the way they think at all.

You would think they would use their resources (that we pay for) for more important things than this. When they can't get their own way they just make things up to get what they want. Reminds me of the ban on ecigs in restaurants and bars. They did it because it confused their cops thinking people were actually smoking. How idiotic is that reason?
I remember when they came out with menthol stinkies. They were called medicated cigarettes.

When it comes right down to it, the FDA doesn't know what they're doing anyway.

They approve drugs that turn out to be really bad decisions and other drugs they should be approving are sitting there waiting for someone to get off their duff. They need to be concentrating on things other than Cigs. or E-Cigs.

Hey Darr, how are you man? It has been a while... Well FDA, what can I say? It stands for Freaken dumb A$$holes... And that is what they are with their "muscle"... Comon, when was the last time the FDA was in check by someone? Passing drugs that are causing health problem's, should cause this damn FDA to be shut down already, but they are not.

And that's my problem with the FDA. I don't often join in on general FDA-bashing because hidden among the awful decisions they make are some very good ones, and like almost any organization (I said almost ) there are undoubtedly good people in the FDA trying to help people as best they can.

But virtually no oversight is right!!! Any group that spends money needs money. And far too many groups that go after money lose sight of what they need the money for in the first place. In my eyes, the FDA is a good theory trapped in a broken system.

Ok, FDA and FDA supporters, ask what my solution is! Go ahead! Ask!

Answer: Heck if I know! My job is to make do with the drugs that you let through. That alone uses all of my brain power. I have none left to come up with how to fix something so terribly broken.

IF they succeed in baning menthol it will open the door for them to ban ecigs and E-juice.
They will put a lable on them as being a market to attract kids due to the no tobacco taste they will turn it around and say that by having all the flavors of e liquid it will attract kids.
You know the Big tabbaky lobbyist are feeding this deal. God I miss the LAND OF THE FREE....

my pet peeve are the FOOD POLICE in cali ...i searched for 3 items in my local safeway yesterday that i did not want in low fat or reduced fat ,to no avail .Sick of it .They tried to take away "pennzoil " i.e. butter in the theatres here but it didnt work . miss the land of the free too ! AS to fda and slow approvals ...i have worked for about 2 companies that were ultimately shut down due to slow fda approval of medical /surgical devices .The device that gave my dad 6 more months in 1986 was not fda approved but the drs covered it anyway and it was approved shortly after that .Dad was basically a tester with no choice and i think at least he helped others with cardiac problems to come so yeah for the pioneering surgeons and the hospitals willing to write off some huge bills .
oh and of course my Dad for being so strong and having such courage even tho he was nervous .

what gets me about the drugs they approve...why do i have to take 10 pills for a given condition? 1 pill to deal with the problem then 9 pills to counteract the negative effects to the 1 drug i need for a simple condition!!!

I feel for ya ...they havent stopped playing with my hubby's blood pressure meds yet ..and off one thing and on another sheesh.Were always at the pharmacy or dr.

The FDA needs to be shut down and re-opened... What needs to be done is hands off everything except medicine and food. Cigarette's, beer, and other stuff for people... OVER 18-21 should be hands off and told to .... about it. They want to take down something that is most likely keeping this economy from taking a huge dump on our heads... Menthol Cigs... I used to smoke them, and everyone I know smokes them...

Cali charges a 1.00 per pack fee for anti smoking and health programs but so we all quit and they don't have that extra tax anyway lol .....funny isn't it ?

Goes deeper than that Ms. Nancy. A high majority of states use the tax revenue from cigs for education. It's always been the hypocrisy of the government, we want you to quit, but can't afford to have you stop smoking....
