Can these vape on LR attys? 5V / 1.7 = 2.9 amps. I am just worried I will get it and it not work with all my attys because most of them are 2.2 -2.3 ohm.

Hi jord, they won't handle that voltage atty combo but my thoughts are the same as derek's.. Would'nt you go through atties like crazy?

Amp rating. :p

2A should be fine for most situations. A 2.3ohm atty (the lowest you should be using at 5V) will pull 2.17A, but considering you're only using it for a few sec at a time, it shouldn't overheat. If you're using higher resistance attys, then the amp load goes down and you're definitely safe.

Hi candre23,
So this won`t cause more cut outs using different atomizers? I know the 3 amp is kind of picky figured the 2 amp would in fact be a little more picky but really I don`t know.
What causes the cut offs then if it`s not the amps then while the same atomizer works fine at 3.7 volts. I know a bunch of posters blame the regulator for this.

I seriously don`t know just want no more cut offs then the 3 amp has.

If a reg is cutting out, it's probably going into thermal overload and shutting down. The way a linear regulator works is by taking any voltage above the setpoint (in this case, 5V) and wasting it as heat. That heat needs to be removed from the device, or it builds up and the chip will shut down to prevent you from frying it. A reg rated for 2A should be able to handle 2A continuously, but that usually assumes that you're using a heatsink to help reject the heat buildup. When you build a mod that doesn't use a heatsink, then enclose the chip in a sealed plastic box (or even worse, encase it in glue), then the heat cannot dissipate quickly enough, builds up, and shuts down the chip. Whether this is an issue depends a lot on how you assemble your mod and your vaping habits.

Adding even a small heatsink to a 2A chip will probably allow it to perform better than a 3A chip without a heatsink. Perhaps MV should consider carrying stick-on ramsinks like these for just such a purpose.

candre,

ive built couple of mods with the 3amp regs. my 510 and 901 works great but my 801 with 3amp regs keeps cutting off. ive tried 801, 302 and 112 atties and it still cuts off. i have to take out the batteries and put it back in and it would work for like 5-7 hits or so and shuts off again and etc... i have to constantly take out the batteries and put it back in if i want to use my 801 mod. ive built 2 801 mods and both are doing the same. i even tried using a 510-901 adapter and it shuts off too. should i try building another one with the 2amp reg?

Honestly, I don't know what to tell you. 801 attys are fairly high resistance (around 3.5ohms) so you should only be pulling 1.5A or less. I haven't used these specific regs, so it's possible that there is some limiting factor for these parts. But considering that a large percentage of the modding community uses MV parts regularly, I would think that if there were an inherent problem we would have heard about it by now.

yeah thats why i built a second 801 mod because i thought i made a mistake on the first one and i even tried it with an adapter. i really like the be112 atties but it gets really annoying having to take out the batteries everytime it cuts off.:unsure::unsure: thanks for your input candre23:toast:

There was a really good thread about the cutting out problem started by Scott Tenorman or something like that.. His problem ended up being old batteries and new batts solved the cutting out problem..

Thats what I was thinking. I remember that article and it was an imbalance in the batteries causing the problem.

I don't know much about it, but how are those "booster chips" working out, the ones some people were getting samples of? Are they going to become available any time soon? Any idea what they will cost? All of the businesses I can use as an address have the word "Truck" in the name, so the manufacturer is unlikely to send me free samples.
