It's really not an electric shock, It's the spatter of hot juice, Happens to me when I chain vape it and the coil actually boils the juice. I though it was electric shocks as well until I got to thinking about and there is absolutely no way plastic drip tip can conduct electricity to shock you.

That is correct Matt...and this happens, when juice builds up just below the drip tip..to fix, just pull out the drip tip, and dry up with a paper towel...and you are good to go again.

Am sure you figured that out already...this is for those who feels there is no fix for the electric shock!

Said Rocketpunk,

I am in the firm camp that anyone who thinks VVN are "fill and forget" simple are a little off the mark. It is most definitely NOT fill and forget simple.

The current state-of-the-art of cartos and clearos is that none of them are "fill and forget." In my experience, all of them require considerable futzing. Just properly filling a standard carto requires you to learn a considerable skill-set.

1) Plumbers teflon tape (what is that and why and how, guess I'm going to Ace Hardware...)

A roll of teflon tape sufficient to last about forever is $2-3 at just about every hardware store and big box store. The stuff is extremely useful for so many things around the house, I don't know why everyone doesn't have a roll. A friend once replaced a kitchen faucet for $250, when simply applying teflon tape to the cross-threaded aerator would have solved his leaking problem. And, yup, the plumber who charged him an additional $200 used teflon tape on all the pipe joints.

2) Ok, we all have pocketknives, but what is a "steel straight edge", and now I have to get an xacto knife and extra blades from Ace Hardware, too?

Teflon tape is very limp and difficult to cut accurately lengthwise with scissors. The tape comes in a minimum width of about 3/8th of an inch, which is too wide for making gaskets for Vivi Novas or Minis. A "steel straight edge" is simply a steel ruler or a wooden ruler with an embedded steel straight edge -- I'm surprised you got out of elementary school without learning about these. X-acto knives and blades are also so useful for so many things, that I can't believe people don't have these hanging around home too. They're also cheap: a knock-off handle and blade-set will cost about $6.

3) a glass mat? A self-healing cutting mat? Where is the average joe gonna get one of those? even if he asks, he's not fully informed, so someone might sell him something else.

The point is, you don't want to ruin a soft surface, such as a wood desk, by cutting against it. Glass is glass: a windowpane not in a window frame works fine. So will glass-covered surfaces, such as your sink -- just make sure you're cutting on a flat part of the surface. Self-healing cutting mats are available at just about any craft store and on-line. They run about $10-13, more for bigger ones. Like everything I've mentioned, they're useful for a gazillion things. One of mine is over 40 years old and cost me about $2.50. Despite constant use, it's still going strong.

If I have to raid Ace Hardware to rebuild a freaking VVN, it's not worth the effort. Another toss.

So, you'd chuck a leaking shower head and spend $40-50 to replace it just because you don't want to invest in a $2 roll of teflon tape? Wow . . . just wow.

I appreciate your long answer (seriously, I'm not being facetious). And yes, I read all of it.

I wrote out a long reply, but before I clicked "Post Quick Reply", I realized there was no argument left in me and I deleted it. So yes, I concede. I no longer wish to debate the merits of something I've discovered doesn't work for me. I'm happy just to move along quietly, now, and never mention a VVN or participate in a discussion about a VVN ever again.

Try tooting harder!

Im with you dude. Vivi Novas are weak sauce. Leaking wasnt an issue on mine, they are just weak. Flavor and throat hit suck. Carto tanks are as close to fill and forget as Ive found, and they hit great. Im talking sweet sweet toots. Delicious sweet savory toots... right down my throat.

Never had an issue with a leaking VVN. I have 4 minis that I use for going out (small imprint/more stealthy) on my VP2's. You do have to fiddle a bit with them now and again, but mostly because of user error. They are very handy to fill n' go. As far as throat hit, LR heads works best for me on 3.7V.

Real leaking issues plague me w/ carto tanks. Mercy!

I initially bought a Vivi Nova mini for use on an Ego battery when I'm out and about. I liked it enough that I bought a larger one for my Provari. I've been using the mini, though not as much, for at least a month and a half without even replacing the head. I've been getting maybe a week per head from the regular size. I was also getting leaks from the one on my Provari. I figured the white o-ring was the problem. I went to Ace hardware with the o-ring, and bought a couple different ones that were close to the same size (none were exact). I put the closest one on the bottom, and tightened it up. It must have been a little thicker, as it wouldn't tighten all the way flush like the original, but no leaks since.

Do yourself a favor and order a 20 dollar pyrex carto tank from Valley View Vapes, or spend a bit more and get one from IBTanked or Phiniac. They cost a bit more but dont mute the flavor nearly as much as a Vivi Nova, dont leak if you insert the carto properly and will last forever.

Did myself a "favor"..went with an even better tank (Elegance from Hoosier vapes)..and the supposedly best cartos out there right now (Ikenvapes 801 fusions)... wasn't too much of a "favor" thus far - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tanks/356591-just-need-vent.html

How exactly do you insert a carto improperly?.. How does a carto filled with polyfill mute flavor less than a wick directly immersed in juice?

Why cant people just accept that it is personal preference instead of all this BS about how this or that device doesn't work or works better? sometimes cartos, sometimes clearos, sometimes VVN, sometimes RBA like DIDs, etc.

I guess Pbusardo or the Real Cmack or Vaporchase or any of these other "veteran" vapors cant distinguish "muted" flavors in their chosen vape?

Vape what you like.. but stop blaming the equipment - If the thing leaked as a design defect - don't you think with the numbers of VVNs out there we would know that by now?? Search for what works for you and let everyone else do the same...

EDIT - All this is not a direct reply to you zapped - don't want to come off aggressive here as I really don't care all that much - just seeing a lot of these kinds of threads with the "carto in tanks" crew making statements that in my experience..albiet not that long..are a bit overreaching at best.. thats all.

Perhaps you didn't see my reply to your thread. Most likely you have a defective tank. Similar thing happened to another customer in the below link. It happens. Contact Hoosier Vapes if you haven't already.

Believe me, it happens. Some people try to fill a cartotank with the top endcap off and the carto fully inserted in the bottom cap. When they add the top end cap onto the filled tank, they wonder why their carto is flooded.

As to your next question, an organic chemist has a theory of why this occurs:

I agree. Whatever works for each individual is what they should use. The fact is, this is a public forum where we are allowed to express our opinions on what works best for us.

Im not taking it personal at all. Everyones experience is different but that doesnt mean the truth is mutable either. I agree with you that in theory a Nova should taste better but in side by side comparisons it just doesnt. When you get your carto tank set up and primed correctly, compare them for yourself. If youre still insisting that the Vivi Nova tastes better then the only thing I can tell you is that maybe your preconceived notions are altering the experience for you.

I bought a Nova because they were so highly recommended at a local vapemeet and really wanted them to deliver more flavor than my carto tanks.I had no skepticism whatsoever as Id only heard good reviews about them both here and through word of mouth. As soon as I got mine I filled it and ran through a tank and half of juice waiting for the flavor to develop. It never did, so I unscrewed it, dropped the voltage on my Provari and tried my carto tank again.

I did that a couple of times and the difference between the two was huge just like Ive posted in these threads.

And no disrespect to PBusardo (I met him and had a great conversation with him at Vapercon) or anyone else you mentioned but Ive been vaping just as long as they have and dont think just because they have video reviews it makes them more or less of an expert than anyone else whos been here awhile.

There is a learning curve to using carto tanks thats quite a bit larger than using a Vivi Nova but once you get it down I think you'll agree that the flavor is better.

@ zapped - Glad you took it as just a spirited discussion..sometimes people take things personal and I certainly didn't want that ..

I agree with you in that I have had cartos in and out of tanks that sometimes seem to have a stronger flavor - That's why I have and use several of them around here.. but I don't find these wide, wide differences in flavor..at least with the juices that I use which are all 70-30

I obviously don't want to mute the discussion - just balance it a little and while I started with and still enjoy a good carto (tank or not).. I think the VVN is a very viable and reliable alternative and many times easier to deal with and less fiddly

I don't get attached to "gear" at all - no preconceived notions - I work in an industry where gear and brands can start the equivalent of Holy Wars

To me , be it a $300.00 or $3,000.00 dollar compressor... a $ 30.00 Ego twist or $200 Provari ... a Twelve dollar cheap tank or a $50.00 Elegance carto tank.. I just want it to work and get me where I need to go/be and more importantly.. when I need to be there...and the fact (for me anyways) is that sometimes the VVN does that better than the carto in a tank route.. and sometimes the (small if any.. in my opinion) flavor differences are worth the trade-off... not always but sometimes...

I think they are all great .. just wanted to bring a different perspective

@baditude - saw your post and thanks - I did contact Hoosier vapes and I believe they will get me situated

Thanks for the reply, I dont usually take things personal unless someone is outright arrogant in their rebuttal or insults my intelligence or both. I appreciate the well thought out responses and also your insights as well as a differing opinion. Intelligent discussions like these are what solves problems or leads to a better understanding of a device.

I dont want anyone to think that Im knocking the Vivi Nova cause Im not. I love its simplicity, ease of use and lower price but it just didnt deliver with my particular setup.Sounds like you had the same experience with Hoosier Vapes.Glad that they are taking care of it for you.

I did notice some major differences between our two setups that could account for the differences in taste and experiences. The first is juice: you use 70/30 Pg/Vg while Im at the exact opposite of the spectrum with 10/90 Pg/Vg.

Second was with cartomizers. Ive never tried an Ikenvape platinum but Ive heard the Smokteks I use have more (or perhaps more absorbent?) filler material which would account for them wicking thicker juices so well with only 2 holes.

Two tiny little variables like those can cause wildly different results which is why scientist used controlled settings in a lab. I wonder if people experiencing the same thing I have are using similar juice blends and thats whats causing it. Just some food for thought.

Thanks for all of the various input.

I guess, in the first place, I would have to say, I don't think this is a user error, but I could be wrong. These tanks are pretty easy to fill and screw on. I have 5 Vivi Novas and three minis. I think everyone of them has leaked at some point.

Like I said, the Atom Bomb leaks, BO 6 Rebuildable leaks, the Banshee leaks (leaks bad in fact, but tastes very good).

I'm not a mechanic or anything, but I am technically inclined, but I guess I should end this post with my thanks. I'll try to troubleshoot my methods and keep searching . . . .
