The LED is part of a circuit board in the end of the batt. It would be microsurgury to try and change it. The best you can do is get a batt w/ the color you want. It is really the only option currently AFAIK.

I have read where others have removed the cap. And, even replaced them with custom caps. It might depend on the PV model, but I'm guessing that none of them have the LED cover tied to the electronics.
Yup, the cap comes off w/ no damage. I am looking into using Cubic Zirconium ash caps. I'll post back when I have more info.
i wonder how hard it'd be to hook up a strobe mechanism to these things? maybe hang a lil disco ball off the tip for a strobing led to hit...
