There was a public hearing?

Anyone have any news on what happened, or what was said?

(Public Hearing)Health, smoking prohibited in places of employment, public places and private clubs, outdoor areas, exceptions, responsibilities of Health Department and State Board of Health, penalties, Smoke-free Air Act, Secs. 22-15A-1 to 22-15A-10, inclusive, repealed

I've gotta do a better job at staying on top of these things. We should have had somebody there.

You know as much as i do..it was a public hearing that no one knew about (funny how that happens)...and they adopted one amendment that had nothing to do with e-cigs.

Supposedly there are additional amendments that they are going to consider...but not til the meeting next wednesday.

Got an interesting call this afternoon. Representative Jim Patterson from the House Health Committee called me today, and I am meeting with him tomorrow to talk about HB383 and Smoke FreE-Cigarettes . From the short conversation I had with him, it seems he is against the bill altogether. So hopefully I can build us a House Alliance for E-Cigs. Now all I gotta do is get a Senator or two on our side. This legislation stuff is becoming a full time job shhhesh, but its worth it. I'll let you know more as I know more, Happy Vapping!

I tried to call my senator- who of course wasn't available- but his assistant asked me to email my information to her and she would make sure that he gets it. (fingers crossed)

I also sent an email to my state rep- the house bill is still in the heath committee as far as i know, but i wanted to try to get a dialogue going. I'll follow up were her on facebook if i don't get an answer. In the process of making sure i had teh right rep and the right contact info I came across this on the house page Welcome to the Alabama State Legislature

EMAILING MEMBERS

Please Note: Messages including those relative to specific legislation, should be directed to individual members, via telephone, postal correspondence or personal e-mail and that information can be found on the House alphabetical listing page.

For members that do not list a personal email address or you find a problem with a personal email address, please use the following format using the member's firstname.lastname@ alhouse. gov . For members that do not use email or if you wish to contact all members at once, please use the general email address for the House. It can be reached by clicking here house3@alhouse.gov . You should include the name of the House member you wish to contact or "For All Members" in the subject line of the e-mail.

Be Advised: The general e-mail address is a central post office that House employees use to forward a printed copy of the email to members. Therefore, messages sent here should not be considered personal, privileged, or confidential communication.

that last sounds very promising, because the members receive a printed copy of the email :)

I Just found out....The Birmingham city council is has the smoke-free ordinance on today's agenda...here's a link to the amended version

http://www.informationbirmingham.com/pdf/publicworks/newsmokingordinance.pdf

CRAP!!!!!

WHEREAS, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has found, many smokers mistakenly
believe that modified risk tobacco products causes fewer health problems than other cigarettes, in
contrast the NCI has found that these products contribute to unnecessary deaths and injuries as
well as huge costs to the nation’s health care system; and

“E-cigarette” means any electronic oral device, such as one composed of a
heating element, battery, and/or electronic circuit, which provides a vapor of nicotine
or any other substances, and the use or inhalation of which simulates smoking. The
term shall include any such device, whether manufactured, distributed, marketed, or
sold as an e-cigarette, e-cigar, e-pipe, or under any other product name or descriptor.

“Smoke” or “Smoking” means inhaling, exhaling, burning, or carrying any
lighted or heated cigar, cigarette, pipe, or other tobacco or plant product intended for
inhalation, in any manner or in any form. “Smoking” also includes the use of an ecigarette which creates a vapor, in any manner or in any form, or the use of any oral smoking device for the purpose of circumventing the prohibition of smoking in this
Section.

they amended the ordinance to remove e-cigs from the definition of smoking!!

the next vape-in can be indoors :D

BTW, a couple of council members seemed to think that the state legislation would be addressed in mid-may. E-cigs already been removed from the senate version of the bill., i don't know about the house version.
