What is the difference between these two? Can't see any.

To note: Some LG cells have been known to employ a weaker positive plate that is suspectable to denting. I do not know if the HG2L is one of them, but the brown HG2 is definitely not

I got them already and was wondering.
The positive plate does not seem any weaker than any other battery I have.

FWIW, I have a couple of Sony VTC6's with dented positive plates from a drop on the floor. I need to wrap them and trash them and replace with new ones. They work, but you can't see the clearance around and underneath the positive plate, so replacement is the safest route.
