Yes, like many of us, I took advantage of Liberty Flights sale on their Riva 510 - Light starter kit. Not too sure what makes this a light starter kit since it comes with the following:

2x 750 mah manual battery
1x Standard Atomizer
1x LR Atomizer (1.7 ohm resistance)
1x Atomizer Cone
10x Blank Cartridges
1x USB Charger
1x AC to USB connector

Now, before I talk about how this has been working for me, let me give you a little history. I have been an analog smoker for 26 years. I started when I was only 13. I really don't remember what life was before I started smoking. I have had my little "successes" with quitting but, obviously, the success was limited.

My first try at electronic cigarettes was with the Blu starter kit. Like many of us, their advertising makes vaping look just like smoking. It also made it look like a single cartridge was going to replace a pack of cigarettes. I also had a friend who purchased their kit and went weeks without an analog.

I placed my order and was sent the same "order delayed" message that everyone else gets. About 3 weeks later, I received an "order shipped" email. I honestly had forgotten that I placed the order.

A few days later, my Blu kit arrived at work. I quickly charged both batteries, read the manual, which was only a few pages, and started getting familiar with everything. Once everything was charged, my troubles began. I could only get about 10 good puffs from a single cart, not the 150 they advertise. I often had to play with the carts to get them to start working. My battery life was much less than expected and often time, the vapor production wasn't enough to feel like I took a puff. Things were terrible. That is when I found ECF.

After posting in the newbie forum about my troubles and among all of the "return it, it sucks" posts, there was some great advice. I quickly purchase juices, 510 atomizers and 510 cartomizers. Using these on the Blu kit made things much better but, just not good enough. I then starting dripping onto my atomizer and with that, I began to understand why people use them. It still was not like smoking analogs at all and it was still a bit complicated to get working. What troubled me the most was the battery life. I could only go a couple of hours between charges. Quickly, one of my batteries would barely hold a charge. As well, the battery was going off in my pocket all the time. I was still always playing with the thing to get it to work right. It was time for a new kit. I was going to try one more purchase and then give up if it didn't work.

I started looking around at all of the options and decided on a Volcano Magma. I was going to order it after asking a few simple questions in the forums. After a few responses, I decided to switch to the Volcano Inferno. My only concern was that it was HUGE! Then again, it is 1000 mah. As well, it was $60 and I had already invested $100 in something that wasn't working for me. Shortly after, someone posted about the Riva 510 from Liberty Flights. It was half the price of the Inferno. Even though it didn't come with a case, I could give vaping another shot without breaking the bank. I placed my order the Friday before last!

Now, why did I tell everyone all of this? It helps in understanding what I was looking for and the troubles that I have found electronic cigarettes to be. I was frustrated. I wanted easy! I wanted battery life! I wanted it to feel like an analog cigarette when I puffed!

The Riva 510 arrived on Thursday. It came in a nice gift box. The batteries, cone and an atomizer were at the top and the charges, cartridges and the low resistance atomizer was at the bottom. Everything had the protective plastic on it.

Removing the plastic reveals black batteries with gold accents. The cone is completely black. The atomizers are black with a gold connector. All of the cartridges are black. With my order I got 2 different style drip tips.

To be totally honest, I thought it would be complicated to put together the Riva 510. It looks complicated in the pictures. It just wasn't. You screw the atomizer, which already has a blank cartridge (without filler) on it, into the battery. Then you screw in the cone. If you want to use a pre-filled cart, you can pull off the blank cart on the atomizer and push on the pre-filled cart.

To charge the batteries, you can either place the charger into a USB port or the AC to USB adapter (which plugs into an AC outlet). It only takes a couple of hours to fully charge a completely dead battery.

So, how does it perform? Perfectly! It just works. I don't know how else to explain it. It just works! I drip a few drops of juice on the atomizer, pop on the blank cart, hold the botton for a second and then apply my lips. I take my drag, which doesn't need to be extremely slow and drawn out, and then inhale.

The vapor production is excellent. I really haven't tried the low resistance atomizer yet but, the standard atomizer works great. With the Blu, I had to slowly puff on the unit for around 10-12 seconds in order to get a decent drag. After "modding" the Blu, it was still around 8 seconds. With the Riva 510, I can get double the vapor of the Blu at around 4-5 seconds. I have found that taking a faster drag at about 6 seconds produces a vapor in a process that is much like smoking an analog.

As for battery life, I can go 12-14 hours between charges. I am not sure if my use is considered typical because I am still new because I don't use it like an analog cigarette. With an analog, I would go out for a smoke every 1 - 1.5 hours for a cigarette. With vapor, I will take about 3 or 4 drags every so often. Maybe every 20-25 minutes. Sometimes I will take about 5 or 6. It all depends on how I am feeling. With the Blu, this amounted to about 2 hours of use.

I love this Riva 510! It has made vaping easy! I am not constantly messing with it, not monitoring my battery all of the time, not puffing on it exact in order to get a tolerable amount of vapor. It just works. I drip and puff. No need to work on perfect technique. No more trouble.

So, to sum this up... If you have $30 ($38 when not on sale), the Riva 510 is the perfect solution for that hole it burns in your pocket. Head to Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - Riva 510 to place your order. They also have other excellent starter kits for your needs. As well, they charged me $2.99 for shipping from CA to FL. That's hard to beat also.

I just ordered the eGo from Liberty-Flights with the ECF discount they were offering on 50 of the starter kits. I'm still awating it's arrival and I'm really psyched to try it out. It seems pretty similar to the Riva so after reading your post I'm even more excited! I really hope it arrives tomorrow.

Anyone know what the difference between the Riva and eGo is?

BTW-my shipping was also 2.99 CA to CT which really is a great price considering some other vendors have a >$5 flat rate, which is frustrating when it's only coming from NJ!!

I believe the eGo has 2 650 mah batteries, 5 pre-filled carts and comes with 2 cones. Not sure if there are any other differences.

The button. The Rivas have nice, flat, rubberized buttons that never stick. EGos have hard plastic buttons that sometimes malfunction and are not very nice to the touch.

I'd like to back up this review by saying these things are excellent. I love the battery life and the feel of the button. The cone really helps keep everything nice and clean as well for when you might drip too much. The normal 510 atty is alright but the LR atty on these things is where the Riva truly shines.

Add to that you can't go wrong ordering from Liberty Flights. They did have a small shipping delay but their customer support was excellent. I also went through blu when I first started but I never received my kit after waiting a solid four weeks then canceling my order. Afterward I found a number of great places to order from with great service thanks to ECF. I am glad the ECF is around to steer people in the right direction.

I received my Riva also and already have been using an eGo PT. The Riva is a GREAT value. They advertise one 2.2 ohm atty and one LR atty but they actually gave me two 2.2's and 1 lr atty for a total of three. I don't use a three piece system (I use cartos) but my impressions?

Well its a great deal but after using an eGo I have soem minor issues with it. I found the cone for it reallyhard to thread...I mean I have had to twist HARD to get it on and that's beign very careful to get the thread started right. Also I don't know if I like its much smaller size. I like the feel of the eGo in my hand, just the right length and heft. The Riva is a good one inch shorter and just feels a bit too light in my hand. It also doesn't have the brushed metal feel of the eGo's. But it vapes just as well it seems.

Overall though its a great addition to have and I now have a back-up for things, etc...

btw...nice review LordDavon, well written...

I am still trying to love my Riva 510. I agree the battery life and vapor producation is excellent, however, I seems to dull the flavor of my liquids. I too, started out with the Blu and eventhough it got me completely off analogs and I could see the potential in vaping, I hated the damn thing. Did not know until I reading your post that 510 attys and carts worked with the blu. Just tried it and still Ehh. I purchased a KR8 PT and a box of blank cartos and some juice from litecigusa.net for around $25 including just to see if I could really enjoy this whole vaping thing. WOW, what a difference the right rig makes. Eventhough the button on the PT quit after about 2 weeks I was definitly hooked. After getting a response from Shawn at litecig within an hour of my email that he would replace it with no problem. I purchased for me and my BFF as an early Xmas gift 2 Manual Batteries (only because I thought the PCC held 2 batteries) a PCC, an automatic PT, all KR8's by the way and 3 bottles of juice and a box of Cartos, each. She still hasnt gotten the hang of vaping but oh well I tried. The day I gave her her set, I found the Riva 50 on sale at Libery-flight and couldnt pass up that great deal. And besides if I was going to vape and try to convert other smokers to vaping, I needed to try other rigs huh. Well as I mentioned, I'm still trying to love it. I just placed an order for 501 Cartos to see if that helps since I have gotten used to the cartos on the KR8. This morning, I just tried it with a driptip, and I must say I'm liking it a lot better. Its so sleek looking, that I wanna carry it around just to show it off. Maybe I'll carry it around to try and convert smokers, but I think my main PV will be my KR8

The difference between the ego 650 and the riva 510 is the size of the battery. The riva battery is 750mah. I too, got in on the 29.99 riva special but had already discovered LF a little before they started that so I knew what I was getting.
I have noticed that sometimes the cone on both ego and riva is difficult to screw on, but I found a quick fix. After putting on your carto(which is what I use) and screw on the cone. When it starts to get hard to turn, grab hold of the carto as if to screw it off and sightly turn it counterclockwise about a quarter turn. Then the cone screw right on tight, then tighten the carto. Works for me every time. I suspect it is the heat of vaping that may warp these a little. Hope this helps.
Has anyone tried the ego 650 passthroughs. I have and they are great. With LF offering 20% off you can get one for under $21.00 plus shipping.
Happy vaping

Great info. Thanks.

I need to get some more cartos and attys. I ordered an extra LR atty with mine and got a regular atty instead. I don't really care though. The LR atty didn't seem to make much of a difference.

I really love my Riva 510. It has been excellent. I ordered a drip tip with it and that may be why I love it so much. It is a drippers dream!

I have to agree that the Riva sounds like a great deal for the price you paid. After reading your review, I thought why not! Went to Liberty Flights with the intention of ordering the Riva but as luck would have it they are completely out of stock.

The discussussion on the batteries is a little confusing to me. It says in this thread that the Riva is 750mah and the eGo is 650mah, but I read somewhere else that you can get the eGo with a 900mah battery. In fact, I am on the waiting list to order the Janty eGo LT (or is it LR) that is supposed to come with the 900mah batteries, BUT after waiting for several weeks for Janty to get their supply in, I am starting to look around because I am tired of waiting.

I am a heavy smoker (2.5 packs) a day, and switched to vaping about 42 days ago with the Lucky Slicks ecigiarette. While it is easy to use the battery life just does not hold up to my usage. I am constantly changing batteries (have 5 total) and end up with one charging and one waiting to be charged. So my main reason for switching is for longer battery and cart life. I just need a system that I can load in the morning and use all day long without the constant battery and cart changes.

Will the Riva do this (assuming they get it back in stock before Janty gets their supply)?

ImJust, you did not miss the sale, they are just out of stock because it is a great deal! Quite a few members are waiting anxiously for them to come back in stock. I lucked out and got a few they didn't post before they sold out. The Riva is a great kit, I love it more than my eGo, but I would caution if you get the Riva to get at least one extra battery, personally if I had it to do over again, I would have bought at least two of the Riva kits on sale the first time I ordered, not only do you have spare batteries, but also attys and an extra charger. I was a 2-3 PAD smoker when I quit, and I find the Riva is a great PV for me, but I would again caution you to either get two kits or at least a spare battery and a car charger if you are planning to be away for the day or you could also get an eGo passthrough to go along with it.

A cartomizer should last you 4-5 hours.

Ya, the Riva should do it for you. I got the BLU first also. I think that's it's stock in trade, for me anyway. It showed me the possibilities. I've got more Riva batts now, 4 colors. I pretty much just use C-E2 XL carto's. My juice is at least 50/50 blend. This can be alittle slow to wick. My solution. . .fill two cartos, mount two different color Riva's, and switch back and forth when I detect a change in the vape. I call it my otrpu VOLLEY. Works for me.

Cheers,
otrpu

Thank you for the advice and the news that the saile is still going on. When I first decided to switch to ecigarettes, I knew that I needed something that I could refill myself, so the Prado, etc were out. On another web site, the Lucky Slicks were rated very highly, and it does work for my daughter and her boyfriend that are one pack a day smoker, but since I need longer battery life, it is falling a little short for me especially if I am gone from the house for the day. It does seems to produce a lot of vapor with a fresh battery and cart, so I won't dog it. BUT I sure wish I could find stronger batteries for it.
