I have come across some post about traveling through airports and have noticed people telling which ones they have not had any problems vaping in. Granted, none are blowing huge clouds but are doing so respectfully. I thought it would be a good idea to start a list of airports that we have traveled through and vaped in.

Philadelphia
Detroit
Atlanta
Miami
West Palm
Minneapolis

As names are added, I am willing to compile the list as needed.

Robin, did anyone see you vaping in Philly? Were you asked about it? Or were you stealth vaping? I just wondered if they have a clear policy on vaping in the airport.

I don't stealth vape yet not obnoxiously either. I have looked for any regulations but haven't found any. I have walked to my gate area and have passed security people walking by with my PV up to my mouth and have never been questioned or stopped. I sit usually in the waiting area by the far walls if I can so I don't attract too much attention but I don't try to hide it. Above all else, I don't act like I'm doing anything wrong, because I'm not. I just sit and read and lightly vape.

I've never had an issue in Atlanta with my ecigs or batteries, and just make sure your eliquids are of proper size, labeled, ziplocked etc.

IMO a lot of it has to do with your "attitude". If you walk around vaping like you own the place (albeit with some courtesy) no one is going to think twice about it, however if your vaping demeanor is similar to someone trying to sneak a cigarette in a non smoking area or something of that nature then people are going to be more likely to notice. </.02>

That is normally how I do it too. I am sometimes stuck at Seatac, Seattle airport, for hours and no one has ever said anything but if asked I'm sure there is a policy prohibiting them. Best not to ask or push the issue by blowing huge clouds. There are definte rules prohibiting using them in flight where I do stealth vape.

Flying and Vaping; strange bedfellows!

I have been flying internationally* and till date haven't found any a/port which is affable to vaping. Neither have they a written down policy on e-Cigs. Which adds to the confusion... i.e. if u dare ask any ground staff -- they either would be clueless on what I was talking about (e-Cig is a Cigarette, No?) - or they'd Xcheck (with someone higher) and come back telling me, "no, it's not permitted".

That said, the fault lies within us... the e-Cig consumers, retailers, manufacturers, R&D labs and the media at large... for not being able to make the e-Cigarette "visible". Adding a general lack of awareness among the masses, as well as fuelling negativity / conspiracy theories... it's still "smoking" they understand/assimilate/conjure/opine. Which, rings alarm-bells everywhere... and the vaper in question ends up [trying to]explaining/educating and sometimes arguing -- alas in vein!

So, if we could vape (I did) at some of the a/ports, it'd be sheer out of luck, on not being spotted. B'coz, if anyone (be they be a staff or a fellow passenger) notices us, doing the act of "smoking" (vaping to us), there'd be a 99% chance of being questioned/queried, which'd typically end in our enjoyment process being barred.

As such, till the time vaping is understood it'd be nice that we avoid furthering the negativity connected to e-Cigs, by not being vocal or public in our act. It'd be suave to walk down to the smokers lounge and dis-holster our eqpt. (boy, we do have some!)... Imagine the curiosity that'd generate among like-minded people (the smokers out there)... the new friends we'd add to our coterie (Facebook, eh!) and possibly 'convert' quite a few (to the wonderful world of vaping) on a remote port of call. Isn't that beautiful, most important?

NOTE: Vaping, or carrying e-Cigs, in flight is another matter (though not permitted in any except Ryanair). Most prominent a/lines have acknowledged the quantities of vaping travellers and thus, have put up notices on e-Cigarettes on their websites... again not permitting to vape, but to carry our devices on board. And that's a good sign, b'coz who knows someday it could be changed to, "OK to vape aboard", and we couldn't be happier. Remember, till a decade or so back it was Ok to smoke in flights. I used to. And that was indeed a bliss!

I've had no issues vaping in Dallas, Denver, and Springfield, Mo. Like others, I'm not "stealth" but I'm being respectful and not blowing out huge plumes of vapor. I have done this sitting in chairs near the windows, counter, etc. Wherever I happened to sit before I vaped, I still sit at and vape. I've had one person ask me what that was, and I told them it was my inhaler and they let me be and went on with their business. If they were to ask why I use it so much, I'll say it's for anxiety, which is true.

Since January, I've weened myself from 18mg of nic, down to 4 mg of nic, and in the next 2 weeks it will be strictly 0 nic from here on out.

question for the OP.. i know you said you dont ' stealth vape' which can have various meanings..

do you blow out clouds of vapor still? or do you hold it in until you barely blow anything out..

just curious.. since I feel like you would draw much more attention blowing out ridiculous vapor clouds lol

I've done this in Logan Airport in Boston (just held in my puffs until it was just about gone and no one even noticed with my ego twist)

Although as a community we are united on a lot of things, this seems to be a reoccurring split among vapers---do we vape often, respectfully, publicly so it becomes more acknowledged, understood, accepted, mainstream? OR do we do it only in places where smoking is allowed so we don't put people off e-cigs and force places to enact restrictions? On every thread I've read on this topic, I've seen good arguments for both points of view.

I'm conflicted on this issue. If we act like we are doing something socially unacceptable, hide in corners, hang out in the smoking areas outside in the heat or cold, we are conveying that even we think what we are doing is wrong. But, there are a lot of people who don't know what e-cigs are and if we make companies choose whether to allow them now before they are more mainstream, their gut reaction will probably be to disallow their use. I'm not sure there is a right answer.

When I'm at airports, which is often, I vape outside before going through security, but not with the smokers. I find a spot off on my own. I don't want to smell their smoke and I don't want people to think vaping is the same as smoking. It's not. Once I'm through security, I'm usually fine without vaping, but if I want one, I stealth vape in the ladies room. The reason I do that is because I've never seen anyone vaping in an airport even though I fly often. Now that Robin has told me she vapes in Philly, which is my home airport, I'll probably try it sitting in my seat at the gate and see how it goes. I'll just hold it in until not much vapor escapes so I don't annoy anyone else.

Most grown-up vapers just use snus or chew nicotine gum during flights. I don't bother with vaping in airports or anywhere indoors except my own house.

? I'm a grown-up...an old one at that :) but I don't/won't use snus and I would certainly not give any of my money to BP by using nic gum.
I go in the bathroom in airports if it is crowded and if not crowded I have vaped in the waiting area.
I don't know how I feel about vaping on a plane. I've been to meets and when you get 10 or more people vaping in the room there is a smell. that could cause a ban.

This thread seems rather odd. It's not really a list of "Airports that are ecig friendly" as the title implies.

It's more "I didn't flaunt it or call attention to myself to get caught vaping when I know I probably shouldn't".

not so odd :) it started as one thing and as many threads do it has evolved :)

I didn't have any problem vaping at Suvarnabhumi Airport (pronounced, Suwannaphum; from Sanskrit, सुवर्णभूमि, meaning Golden Land, also known as Bangkok International Airport, is one of two international airports serving Bangkok, Thailand. Thanks to Wikipedia)

As Robin, I wasn't going stealth, but I was discreet about it.

Ok, I see I'm catching some flack on this subject.
I will not use snus, nic gum makes me nauseous, patches irritate my skin.

I take smaller vapes and blow the vapor downward so there is not this cloud over my head. My PV does not look like a cig nor can it be mistaken for a pen of any kind. It is very visible and would be extremely hard to hide.

There are still smoking areas in some airports, I hated using those when I still smoked. I did use them, god they are awful. It's amazing what we would put up with to get that cigarette fix.

The title of this thread is relevant. I am asking for what Carbon gave me and what others have experienced at different airports. I'm not asking anyone to break any laws. Believe it or not, there ARE places that will let you vape! OMG imagine that! There are actually people that do understand about ecigs! What a shock!

Do you really think that vaping is illegal everywhere? Is that not what we are trying to fight? I really thought about just closing this thread but there ARE legitimate places that DO allow vaping. I try to find out what airport policies are without asking someone at a desk. Most times the person would just rather say no than actually have to find out.

I think this information would be very helpful. Especially when you have layovers and trying to get back in through the security is such a nightmare after going outside. It's nice to know what airports are friendly and you can choose to have your layover at those. You do have options when booking your flight. If I see that a particular airport is on the list but another one is not, I will pay more to be routed through the friendly one. Mr. Robin and I prefer non-stop flights, but that sometimes is not an option.

I'm exhausted.
