Texas is big, obviously, and we've got quite a spread of people. Most of us seem to be in or around the larger cities. If we were to hold a meetup or get-together...where should we do it? I understand that there won't be one place that's good for everybody- but we can get some idea of where to start.

Hey Menolly,

Thanks for posting the poll to get us started :)

Choices... Choices... Choices...

--------------------------------

That spread may even get bigger. I did a quick member search and found 57 members with "TX" as their location and another 69 with "Texas" as their location. So we at least have 126 forum members who are from Texas. That doesn't even include me, lol, since I only have Dallas USA as my location in my profile. I'm sure there are more that have done the same thing or didn't name a location at all.

I think I'm going to ask an forum admin or mod if I can send them all an invite. The rules say you can't use to PM to promote a product if you are a supplier but says nothing about sending invites for social groups. This is certainly not a product but I still want to ask first. I don't want be considered a spammer or give the group a bad rep in case someone objects to an unsolicted invitation.

Any thoughts on this, anyone? Good idea or no?

I say there is no harm in asking to send all the TEXAS peps an invite....if they say no, no harm no foul....if they say yes, you might get 20% response...i mean if I get an invite I may join, you never know.
ETA 08 APR 2009 delivery date..for my first e-cig.

Thanks, that's what I'm thinking too. I also got the green light from a mod to go ahead with it. I'll start soon so maybe we'll see a bump in memberships. Though it's doing well on its own. 16 members in the first 3 days ain't too shabby :)

I posted "elsewhere" as I think Waco is a good central location for all of Texas... big enough to be fun, small to NOT be overwhelming for those of us who choose NOT to live in the BIG CITY....

Waco has a lot of good hotels, good eateries, and is on the main highway arteries going through this large state we call HOME.

Just my thoughts.

More of my thoughts, for what they are worth..
Hate Houston, DFW, Austin, San Antonio areas, and avoid them whenever possible, too many people = too much traffic.

I was going to add Waco and El Paso to the list, but I apparently can't edit the poll options. Austin traffic isn't bad at all as long as you avoid the highways during rush hour. Though coming from Houston- just about everything is an improvement. I used to sit at the bus stop counting how many cars would run the red lights- made me very careful when I finally did get a car.

Howdy Everyone,

I didn't click on the poll because, where ever the meetup place may be, I'll most likely be thousands of miles away on the date of the meetup. I travel extensively, and am rarely in town.

As far as the actual location goes, why not wait a while, and make a list of everyones location. Then map out a central place to meet.

Secondly - since I travel the world, I always keep my eyes open for e-cig bargans, and supplies. If I find anything that's worth mentioning, I'll drop a post in this group.

Cheers;

I'll probably vote Dallas, if only because close to home is always good by me.

That said, I really like Fort Worth as an option. Plenty of hotels and things to do, a nice downtown area, touristy stuff (the stockyards, museums if you're into that kind of thing) and they've got a kind of small town vibe going on that's really nice.

Austin is a good choice, too.

Hey guys,
Thanks for inviting me to join Tejas Vapin.
I voted for Austin, but that is just because it is close to home.

I live in Wimberley, which is in a valley in the Hill Country, We have a great place here for meet and greets and just plain good ole outdoor summer fun. Wimberley recently bought the Blue Hole and has made it public. It is a Texas treasure of a swimming hole with huge Cypress trees lining the banks. Also our little town has lots of unique stores and shops to see. If anyone has ever been to Wimberley, you know what I am talking about. PLus, Austin and San Marcos are just a stones throw away.

I think we should set up different regions since the state is so big and everyone is spread out. Then members in their region could set up local meetings and then hold a state meeting once or twice a year...Example: Austin and surrounding areas chapter or region, Dallas-Fort Worth chapter, Houston, San Antonio, etc.....

I think this is a good idea as well... give it a little time, this group is still pretty fresh, and even in days or weeks the landscape will probably change pretty significantly...

Is Inoz still open in Wimberly?

When I was in school at SWT, a friend worked there, and I was a regular.

Yes, Inoz is still very much open and is a great place to hang out on the banks of Cypress Creek, listen to live music have some catfish and sip on Margaritas. Of course you still have to have a membership card to drink, but the membership is free and only takes a couple of minutes to fill it out.
I love how it is kind of retrospective of a 50s diner inside. It is one our favorite places to eat. Hey they sell beer in Wimberley now! We have come of age.. LOL.

With summer time coming i know the New Braunfels area is beautiful. It is a good central location. Canyon Lake and the Guadalupe river are awesome, nothing like tubing down the river with a cold beer....There are many camp sites and i know alot of people in the area, my family has property on the Canyon Lake.
