Long time lurker, new poster

Hey guys, new here... sort of.

I started off a few years ago with the chincy disposables, working my way up to an evic with tanks, and now I'm generally using VW box mods and occasionally my mech with rdas and rbas.

My question is everytime I build a new coil for my kayfun I get a funny taste for the first few mls, and then the taste seems to wear off and everything is copacetic. This has occurred for every new build on my kayfun, and if I ever "renew" the coil by dry burning it and quenching it in cold water to knock off the buildup. My guess would be that when I use the new cotton it is the direct contributor to the funny taste. I have not been able to successfully use my "old" cotton from a previous setup to test if that's the issue.

Hopefully this comes across clearly enough...

Thoughts?

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you! I don't have a rebuildable, but I know even clearo coils require some priming every now and again. Take a few small, quick dry puffs to wick more liquid.
Try more liquid on your coils.
Also could be the liquid you're using, I've noticed I get funny aftertastes and flavors with some liquids.
Could also be your taste buds.

I'm sure somebody with Kayfun knowledge will chime in.

This kayfun has been a kay-bust. I like it after the first tank and the awful taste is gone, but why does it always taste so horrible for the first tank? I always prime the cotton before burning it, and I typically do a primer pull or two even after manually priming the wick.

For me, every new reworking with cotton would taste off for maybe 10-15 drags....but some liquids seemed to interact with the cotton more than others.

Do you have the same result in other rbas?
Have you tried other wicking materials - silica, rayon, the Japanese cotton pads?

I tried silica and was pretty disappointed all around. I have not had the same experience on my other rbas. Only in my Kayfun (yes it's authentic, yes it's been thoroughly washed). I've been using the kayfun as my daily for months and I've finally decided to speak up about this.

I have a Kayfun as well and notice something similar, when they set it up in the shop for me and I vaped on it it was great but since then it's had a funny taste as well...my wicks are saturated as well.

Exactly! It tasted great from the shop, but every time I make a new build it tastes funny, then after around 15-25 pulls it tastes fine again.
