Hi all -

my wife and I have been vaping a little over a year and have stepped down from a high of 16mg when we started to something around 3mg now, mostly due to the sore throat that we've been told comes with vaping too high a nicotine level. We are, of course, remaining well hydrated, but the sore throat thing just seems to come one way or another and we have to further reduce our nicotine level. That said, I thoroughly enjoy vaping and will likely continue for some time (I hope so, we just bought a couple of APVs!). I just wonder how others are dealing with the "nic throat"?

Thanks!

Mike

My wife and I also stepped our nicotine down after the first year of vaping. We stay between 4 and 6 mg. We both did 0 mg for a while but imo it was not as enjoyable and flavorings do not marry as well. We were having to go to 20-30% and no throat hit at all. I suggest increasing your percentage of Vg in your mixes as the Pg can cause irritations like the nicotine will

Tru2dgame -

thanks for the hints! I'm wondering if the PG was causing the irritation rather than the nicotine. Are you doing 70/30 Vg/Pg mixes at 6mg now as opposed to 50/50? Have you had much success finding vendors willing to mix at 4mg?

When I started 2 1/2 years ago, I ordered a bottle of 18mg and a bottle of 0mg juice. The plan was to go from 18 to 9 (mixing some of each into a third bottle, and then to zero mgs. Well, 18 wasn't strong enough so I figured, what the heck, I might as well go straight to zero. A few days later, after hitting my PV like a crack monkey (to satisfy the hand-to-mouth urge) and hand chugging water non-stop, the withdrawal symptoms went away and I've been zero mgs ever since.

Once you get nicotine free, an amazing thing happens. You can vape when you feel like it but don't feel possessed by it. I enjoy vaping when I'm in the mood but yet don't bother to vape at all on some days. I only take it out of the house when I'm going to see friends who still smoke with the hope of converting them, otherwise, I don't even bother.

Hope I didn't come off as preaching, just trying to convey my experience.

3 3/4 years vaping.... I still use the same juice I used 3 years ago: Innovapors Ultrapure 100% VG unflavored @ 30mg nicotine....smooth with lots of nicotine....:)
LOL...I look at you guys vaping 18mg and 30mg (!!) and wonder how you do it...I get the spins when I hit 6mg for too long at this point  :D

I have tried to vape lower nicotine mg... It seemed like I was vaping more often to get my nic fix...
MJMcMahon I see your in Bosie Id....thats were Innovapor is located....You should call them, talk to Mark(owner). Im sure he will hook you up with some samples of his e-liquid...0-36mg, probely let your drive over and pick sone up... He is a great guy...

My fav blend is 60/40 vg/pg. There are a few vendors that will do that for you. Personally i DIY now and just started extracts. I lower to 6 or 4 mg depending on flavor to get to my personal sweet spoton a juice. I was paying 50-80 cents a ml on buying juice and now i pay 1/4 that mixing myself. Vaping at those strengths for over a year after starting at 16/18. One other thought. Buy extra flavor percent/strength and dilute with vg. I buy vg either organic from amazon or at cvs (177ml for 5.99)

not preachy at all, Tracker...good information!

I'm not sure what'll happen now...I may eventually wind up at 0mg, or I may stick around the 3-4mg range indefinitely. I certainly hope I don't wind up setting the hobby aside entirely as the APVs were somewhat expensive.

I agree...not preachy at all. Within my first month of vaping, I've noticed that I can bounce around nic levels fairly easily. I don't feel as addicted to vaping as I ever did with the analogs. I have noticed that when I'm in situations where I can't vape as freely as I want, that urge just doesn't hit me that hard. What a relief for sure.

Nope. Started at 18mg 3+ years ago, still at 18, no intention to step down or quit.

Tastes lovely and I'm as OK with that amn't of nicotine as I am with my 2 cups of coffee a day. I pretty much chain-vape now as then. Doc says that I'm in great health (much improved since starting vaping) and I feel wonderful.

I'm extremely happy to be at rest with it after years of struggling and struggling with cigarettes, ugh.
I'd only think about cutting down nic (and my little caffeine) if I had heart problems, which I don't - it's actually a pretty small-beans drug in itself.
I'm a very health-conscious whole foods only sort of person. These two luxuries I keep, with no qualms. :)

BTW, sore throat with vaping is actually not very commonly reported - I've never suffered that and have only seen it now and again in here, generally a transient thing. You may need to keep fiddling with your brand and your base.

Be sure your vendor is using pharma grade glycol ('organic' means jack re purity in that - you want it lab synthesized to avoid contaminants.).

Started 3+ months ago at 24mg and have now cut down to 6mg as of a week ago. Don't really vape any more then usual. I do find the flavours I did like at 12mg taste weak at 6mg and I've had to find a good juice at 6mg that I'm happy with (100%VG Thug Juice MBV). I'll be down to 0 after the summer.
