Hello! I am new to ecf, but have been a lurker for questions and such for a while now. I am wondering about box mods, as I have been using only mechanical mods such as a Manhattan, Brass Monkee, and a nemesis clone. I was looking to get into box mods after getting an IPV2. I like the feel better and just the overall performance and price. I was wondering for more detail into parallel and series box mods. I know what they do, but am a little shaky on how they affect the vape and such. but maybe a re-up on how ohms law works would help (especially reading a ELI5 version)

I was also looking for good box mods, unregulated, regulated, and a vv/vw (thinking ipv3 or something). For regulated i was reading on the raptor chip and the okr/okl chip. Any insight would be wonderful as I am new to the box mod scene. Suggestions for all 3 types of box mods would be appreciated also!

Hello and welcome to the forum tpsygz. Glad to have you here!

Here are a couple of blog posts by Baditude (our resident battery expert) on Ohm's Law.

1. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

2. Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

Batteries in series are more dangerous than batteries in parallel.

All the power goes through both batteries in series. And if one is at a lower voltage it has to work harder. You need to keep the batteries matched, buy them as a pair (or tripple) and keep them together. Check the voltage now and then, both when they are discharged and newly charger, stop using them in series if the voltage differs.

Charging is even more of a problem. If one battery charges first then it will be overcharged while the other battery finishes. This will heat the battery and hurt it making it charge faster the next time. Eventually it could vent or burn. I would not charge series batteries, take them out and charge them in a good charger.

With Parallel things are a lot better.

The high wattage mods, Sigellei, IPV, especially God, have their batteries in series. You can tell by looking at the input voltage for the board, 3.4 volts is parallel and 6.8 is series.

I like the SX-350 with a pair of batteries in parallel. If you go to 60 watts be sure the wires were upgraded, otherwise stick to 50.
