A vote for the Icon. The button locks with a screw-type ring. I pocket my Prodigy in baggy pants, cargos, tight suit pants, and it's more than solid, no play at all when locked. The Icon is super portable, too, hardly larger than the 14500 it houses, and gotta love the mechanical mods when looking for reliability.

Spring's collapsed in my Grand too. No go on a quick swap. :(

Arghhh! Check the REO subforum, there have been a couple of specific atty's that caused problems, I have to believe it must be a factor in order to blow out 2 of them so quickly on different devices. I happen to like cartos (I find them the most pocket friendly) and haven't had any problems with them. At any rate, the springs are cheap and easy to replace, so you could have them both back in business in no time. Good luck!

I checked the REO forum, but couldn't find a thread that talked about atty issues. I've always used Cisco 306 LR's with my REOs though. I did find a thread talking about the button melting during a short. I think this is what happened to my Grand. I suppose I should get the REO's fixed up, if for no other reason, to sell them.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was really tempted by The Cube Mini, but it's a bit pricey. I decided to give the Icon a try.

Hey Biff. I'm sorry you had those issues with your REOs. The short happens if the insulator in the atty is crushed or displaced, causing the positive pin to touch the negative shell of the atty. The REO is all mechanical and designed so if the battery heats up, the spring collapses and drops it away from the firing pin. It won't happen with a protected battery as long as the protection circuit is working. Rob recommends the AW IMRs because Li-Ion protection circuits can fail and the IMRs are inherently safer http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/129569-rechargeable-batteries.html (and more capable of handling the load of a LR atty), so it was a decision to risk damage to the mod rather than damage to a person.

The same atty probably caused the damage to both of your REOs. It is usually caused by the atty insulator already being slightly displaced and overtightening it causes the positive and negative to shift together, or by the atty center pin being overextended beyond the base of the atty. A visual check and not overtightening the atty will prevent it. You could also chose to use a protected battery for your Grand (this one won't overcompress your spring AW 18650 Protected 2200 mAh Rechargeable Lithium Battery ), but there really is no adequate substitute for the AW IMR 14500 for your Mini.

PM Rob (redeyedancer). You can either send the mods in for repairs, or he can send you a couple of springs and a replacement button and guide you through the repairs.

I appreciate everyone offering suggestions and trying to help me get my REOs going again, but I've known all of these things since my Grand died back in April. These problems occurred months apart, so not the same atty. I only ever used IMR's with Cisco 306 1.5's in both of my REOs.

I'm aware of the short protection feature. I'm not a fan of it. I don't habitually over tighten my attys. Once it's snug, I stop tightening it. The fact that this can happen with normal every day use, and has happened twice to me, has completely turned me off to the REO.

I understand why everyone likes them. I did too before the problems. Now I no longer have confidence that a REO will get me through the day, and don't see the point in putting any more effort or money into trying to make the REO work for me. I'm not bashing them, they just aren't the mod for me. I'd rather drip with a mod that isn't so finicky about how tight the atty is.

Thanks again and happy vaping with your REOs.

I love how he said he doesnt want to get another REO, and every REO owner came out and told him to get another one. I have nothing against REO's, but calm down guys. Don't recommend exactly what he said he didnt want.

I love my new Mako Midi v3 from Electronicstix. Locking bottom button, no adaptor needed to use tanks and larger diameter cartos/atomizers and it has a drip well.

In their defense, they were just trying to be helpful in getting the REOs I already own back up and running. If I sounded short at all, I apologize. It's just because it's not the first time I've mentioned my dissatisfaction with the REO and had to explain all this stuff. I do appreciate everyone's efforts at trying to make me happy with my mods though. That sort of helpful attitude is why ECF is so great. :)

Another vote for the Puresmoker Icon 1.1.

Bottom switch locks with a ring, very straight forward and attractive design. It was my first e-cig and I still have it.

Obviously it doesn't rock as hard as most bigger-battery mods but the IKV 1.5 ohm i06 atty has breathed new life into this little treasure for me.

For anyone just finding this thread, I have received my Icon and I absolutely love it. Build quality is fantastic. It looks greats, and performs like a champ. The button press is silky smooth, and the lock is solid as can be. One pleasant surprise is that the spring holds enough tension that the device can be stood on end with the button unlocked and it won't fire. I was a little worried that I would have to lock it every time I wanted to set it down, or run the risk of it rolling off the table.

Based on first impressions and about 30 minutes of use, I can't find a single flaw with it.

The new E-Power 14650 is equipped with the new white LED switch module. Five quick clicks of the switch and the power switch is disabled for carrying in the pocket. Another five quick clicks and it's ready to fire up again.

Yes, I know the E-Power 14650 uses 3.7 VDC 14650 Li-ion batteries but if you stretch out the removable battery spring it works just fine with 14500s. It just won't operate as long as it would with the larger battery.

How on earth did you break your REO's? I've been beating the bejezus out of mine for well over a year.
That's what I was going to say.

I was going to suggest a Reo Mini until I read the post.
I can't even imagine how I could break my Reo Mini.

EDIT: Nevermind, read the thread, still not sure how that happens though.
