Boy do I have a tough problem. I have been "vaping" and cigarette free for 8 weeks now. My best friend is also a smoker and is looking to quit. Where I am an electronics technician and like to fiddle with things, he is not. Where I see the wisdom is spending 50 bucks on equipment (the cost of a carton of cigarettes) he thinks the price is terrible as a pack only costs him $5.

He has poked fun at all the stuff I have bought lately, but I can say I have not spent anymore on my equipment than I would have spent on cigarettes. Just last weekend he purchased a Blu kit and hates it, I really want to recommend a rock solid, low maintenance, low cost set up, but not sure where to go.

I have purchased a few things from fasttech but only after doing lots of research. Mods with batteries and chargers seperately (panasonic batteries, nitecore charger). There are some really nice prices on the ego batteries but I am worried about them being knock offs.

As I am only 2 months into this, I don't have the google time most of you have. In your opinion, what is the most reliable, cheapest starter set out there?

Thanks!

This is a paradox ;-) Id say egos and a kanger are a great place to start possibly a evod I here people complain the least about those leaking. Your buddy soundS like lots of us did and will probably have to go threw the Cig alike, ego, mod stages. Some people have to go threw everything its hard to get your mind around something that looks like a ink pin or a electric screwdriver getting you off of smokes.

I personally, have had terrible luck with kanger products. I was looking to step up from the stardust (ce... whatever you want to call it) and watched the now infamous "battle of the clearomizers". I bought 3 T3's the first two caused me so many problems that I never opened the 3rd. Everyone was talking about the Protank, I decided to give that a shot, same troubles. I have recoiled/rewicked it to make it better, but it is still not something I would be comfortable recommending to my buddy. Everyone says how great the evods are for beginners, after the first two purchases I have been worried to try again. The system involved leaves little room for error, as the coil and wick are submerged in liquid the wick has to both block excess liquid and wick well enough to work, with an air system the size of a buick v8 exhaust.
I have gotten into carto tanks and love them, I really think they would be too fiddly for him.

I like carto tanks to cant go wrong there. Ive tried a few clearo but just give them away I have not been to impressed. Maybe just a pack of cartos pretty easy and easy to fill up 5 every night he should get 3 or 4 weeks from using all 5 at once easily.

He was impressed with the vapor he got when I stuck his Blu carto on my SVD. Now to find a couple of cheap ego twist batteries.

This is a quality setup and gets your bud a nice kit for under $50.00.

Kanger eVod Kit - Red

The only minor nit is that the coil resistance is a tad on the high side for the 3.7v batteries included. Trying a few lower resistance coils would probably improve the performance.
