If you are planning on a career as a research writer, your reputation will probably be better if you avoid influencing your subjects.
If my intention was to gain responses free from outside opinion, why would I post it openly on a forum in the first place and not just create a survey? Surely my opinion will only influence people as much as all the other opinions here? I was looking for thoughts on the topic, and debate - in my opinion, at least - is a pretty good way to generate thoughts and ideas.

The e-cigarette industry is "self regulating" (period)
All those on the ECF posting they think Mommie FDA should regulate this or that ...
Be careful what you wish for !!
I'm sure most people don't think they
should regulate, they're probably just resigned to that outcome. The world is full of these stupid hoops to jump
through, it just seems like you can't get away from it for too long. Do you think other industries should be self-regulating too? Like food? Just curious whether it's a general ideal or specific to e-cigs. With food I'd rather some assurance, as unnecessary as it may be. I could make sure I
buy from reputable suppliers in a self-regulated system, but then there would always be the risk that I was wrong about a company. Although I suppose the amount of contaminated vegetables the FDA lets
through anyway and the fact that cigarettes are so much worse means a self regulated e-cig industry can't do much harm in comparison.
