BAT agrees to buy Reynolds for $49 billion

"This is the right moment to make the deal; the multiples of BAT and Reynolds are closer than ever before," he said.

BAT would also be able to take Reynold's NGP portfolio, led by vaping brand Vuse, into its international markets, he said.

It will be Interesting to see how this all Shakes Out if this Sale of Reynolds is Finalized.

Wonder what's driving it. Could be they need to merge because of falling cigarette sales. Maybe how they see the future vape market has an influence. On the other hand it could just be a way to get huge bonuses in the CEO's pockets.

BAT has owned a Large Percentage of Reynolds for a Long Time. And has made Attempts to buy Reynolds before.

I think e-Cigarettes/Smoking Rates definitely plays a Role in all this. How Much though? Hard to say.

Remember... Imperial Brands acquired when Blu when Reynolds bought Lorillard. And the Reason that Reynolds divested Blu to Imperial was because Reynolds felt there could be potential Anti-Trust issues with Reynolds owning Both Blu and Vuse.

OK thanks, I wasn't aware of that background.

Do you know if any of the big tobacco companies have developed any of the type of vaping gear we talk about here, like standard mods or refillable tanks. They are probably closer than us knowing what the future holds. If they aren't staking a position in that area it suggests they see the future of vaping being more along the Blue / Vuse track.

    Not Really.

With the way they thought the FDA Deeming would/did occur, I think BT has Focused almost Exclusively on "Closed System" Hardware.

Nothing refillable that I've seen. Vuse has a pre-filled tank/ego-type system and a mini mod that can be used with their cartos.

BAT does have open system devices, as well as cigalikes and pod-mods. Their e-cig brand is called Vype ( Blu was sold to Imperial Tobacco, not BAT ), and they are the market leader in Europe, but they have no real presence in the U.S. Having said that, i don't think e-cigs were a major factor in this merger. I just think the major International tobacco companies, are not as worried about the regulatory and legal implications of doing business in the U.S. any more, and are coming back to the U.S. market, a decade or so after leaving. There is talk about Altria and Philip Morris Intl. re-uniting as well.

    Hmm.

Methinks those that can clearly see the future are getting out while the getting`s good.
Those that have the resources to try and fight the future are trying to consolidate and strengthen their positions so as to try and hold on to what they got through whatever lies and deception they can sell the people.

    Me? I could GAS-less because I`m a vapor with a DIY hoard. :?)

Don't think so. Probably why there are no anti-trust issues similar to what Reynolds had when they took over Lorillard. Vuse and Blu were the top two ecigs in the U.S. market at the time ( still are, i believe ).

Most of their open system products have a distinctly Innokiny look and feel to them. One of them seems to be a rebranded Innokin Endura ( with the tank capacity reduced from 2.5 to 2 ml to qualify under TPD ). I would be shocked if Innokin is not the manufacturer of these products.
