I understand it's not safe to carry 18650s loose - which is fine as I don't use them - but do we need to exercise any precautions about sealed mods - i.e. iStick's? Always really paranoid about having them in my pockets. Is two together OK?
As long as
  • you keep a tank on it (or something else) to prevent exposing the 510 connector
  • don't have anything else in pocket that could damage the mod
  • don't have wet pants
  • don't get too hot
  • don't sit and cause excessive force/pressure on the mod
Basically, you shouldn't have anything to worry about any different that you would with a cell phone (aside the 510 connector not being exposed, but that's similar to letting crap get into the USB or headphone ports of the phone).

Two together might rattle quite a bit, and they'd scratch each other up. I'd say get some silicone skins but that wouldn't help if you have a tank on them.

Note that you should turn the mod off if you pocket them to prevent accidentally pushing the trigger/fire button.

This is not definite and just my opinion...

I think the battery inside a 20/30 is an 18650.
The battery makes a connection with metal inside the istick to complete a circuit.

The reason to not carry loose batteries is because if your keys/coins touch both the pos and neg ends of your batteries they will complete the circuit and discharge your batteries.

I'd be worried about the scratches my pocket mod combo would endure though o_O

For 2 pocket pants, the right pocket is for my mod with tank attached...always turned off. I might also have a very small backup (ego one etc.) in a small leather case in the same pocket. Everything else (keys, change, reading glasses, comb, cell phone) go in the left pocket. I use both self contained and 18650 mods, but only if the battery door is very secure. For an 18650 mod, I prefer one with a screw type battery door (i.e. pico type). If I decide to carry a spare battery (usually don't), only in a silicon battery sleeve.

I carry a Pico or a Kbox mini with an atty attached in a front jeans pocket at work. The atties are small RTAs, most of the time all metal. I'm quite active, always moving around, frequently around machinery that I also do maintenance on. The mod is always stowed by itself. I have the mod turned on and have never had an autofire incident. With the power buttons on these two mods I can't imagine a scenario in my pocket that would cause a problem.

Having said that, I have never and would never put a second mod in the same pocket. That scenario seems to me to have risks.

I prefer to keep my mod in a pocket without loose change or my keys. My reason for doing so is not to scuff up the finish. A mod in your pocket is not the same as a loose, exposed battery in your pocket.

Then again, I only carry extra batteries with my in either a silicone sleeve or plastic box. Batteries should not just be tossed around without some insulation/protection in any location, including your desk drawer, not just your pocket.

Aren't the internal battery mods all LiPo type batteries?

    Only some I think. The istick 20 & 30 run on 18650s I think.

That's why I won't (and never have) used those types of mods. ... You never know ...
If I can't visually inspect the battery ... I don't want the mod.

If used properly, batteries should never be a problem. ... except ....

Indeed. I agree but I'm planning to travel in the future. Kipping down in hostels with one bag on your shoulder doesn't allow for me to take a regulated device, a collection of external batteries and a d2 or d4.
I think that an Istick, an rta, a USB, some cotton and wire is enough. Seems a more pragmatic idea to me.

Two isticks with touching 510's (both + & - ) and catastrophic failure of the battery/ both auto firing in one pocket ?
I'll give you odds of 100,000 to one.
Two isticks in one pocket and the paint finish getting damaged ?
I'll give you odds of 9/2 on. On seconds thoughts, i won't take that bet.
    :p

If I am carrying 2 mods I always carry them in separate pockets on either side of my body for safety. That away I don't knock anyone over as I am pulling my mod out of my pocket when they are standing too close to me.

In the few occasions I have carried 3 mods. I only have carried 2 in the pocket without the cellphone. Once again for safety, so I don't drop a mod when I answer my cellphone.

As much as I love warmer weather, I do hate loosing the extra pockets that come with a jacket or something. And no, I'm not going to use a fanny pack. Just, no.
