Good morning, Loungers!!

Coffee emergency alert!!! My coffee pot broke last night!!!

So, until I get a new one, making coffee the old fashioned way by boiling water on the stove and adding grounds, letting it steep, draining the grounds, and is it good!! Also, can use my french press, but only 3 cups...not acceptable.

Thinking of a Cuisinart this go round!! :)

We've been coffee hounds for, well, it seems centuries. Over the years we've gotten high end and low end drip makers, and for us, they all seem to die after about a year. So we gave up on the high end one's. And about once a year (VERY roughly!) just get another low end and leave it boxed until needed ;)

    Hola .. :)

As is my way with some crucial / Life Sustaining items, .. I maintain backups as well .. :D

EDIT :: I'll add, if someone were to come up with a Solar or Wind powered Coffee Maker, that would be something I'd give serious consideration to adding to the Apocalypse Stash ..

Get yourself an inexpensive percolator pot and build yourself a rocket stove with a couple cinder blocks and you're all set! Well, you are if you have some coffee.

I agree so we too buy the cheepies and keep an extra one boxed up.

We run two machines at a time. Hubs for coffee, me for tea. I hate coffee but am a tea snob. No lipton tea bags, I only use loose tea. There are tea makers out there and they cost a bunch. Many years ago I discovered that a plain old Mister Coffee steeps my tea just as well. I just don't put the loose tea in the thingy because you have to steep it for 5-6 minutes unlike coffee where the water runs through the grounds and extracts the flavor. I just put the loose tea in the tea ball in the carafe. Water goes through the usual way and a few minutes later it's tea!

    Good Morning everyone!

It's been interesting here. We got a new dog that didn't work out in a big way! It attacked our poor old dog. So we had to call and have that dog removed as it was after hours and we couldn't drive her back. We were assured she was "fine with other dogs" but I can assure you that dog needs to be given to a rescue that can help it. $1200 vet bill sure that dog is not good around other dogs. I'm just grateful it didn't see the cat. We checked with the animal control person and our vet, and it wasn't anything we did. We introduced them correctly. It was just that dogs nature and if it didn't happen right away, may have happened when we weren't around to intercede.

After our dog had some time to heal up, we adopted a new dog. This one is much better, and seems to be crate trained so we got her a crate. Now we won't have to worry about any fights while we are't around. It's terrifying seeing a dog try to kill your loving family member, and now I'll be able to sleep knowing the new dog is happily sleeping in it's den.

And on another note, REO's mods emailed that they are going out of business due to personal reasons. I had to go order everything I may need forever from them to add to my stash of vapapocalypse stuff.

I hope everyone has a great day!

I'm excited and a bit apprehensive... Daughter came by a few days ago, very excited about my paintings and I told her I want to do 'Art On The Avenue' next spring. She said not to worry about it being juried, she will get me in, and...pay for the booth space...:)

I'm going to continue with my list of little paintings as a learning experience, but...have started putting in backgrounds for a few larger paintings, and just bought 2 BIG canvases... If I'm missing from here from time to time, it will just be because I'm up to my chin in paint...;)

:D Just couldn't pass up the challenge, although I am not to sure about some of these links that profess having a "Solar Powered Coffee Maker" . . .

The first thing, I'd try is getting a "Solar Powered Battery w/ AC Adapter" & "Solar Panel" (https://www.amazon.com/Sungzu-Folda...=101&pf_rd_i=2236628011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER) and then just plug in any coffee pot (or anything w/a plug):

Oh and then there is this website to check out (not cheap - but they do have sales: Goal Zero

There is also this: Best Solar Powered Coffee Makers of 2019 | Magesolar

AND - A Variety are listed on "Alibaba" : solar power coffee maker, solar power coffee maker Suppliers and Manufacturers at Alibaba.com

Oh YEA - BTW: Always have Sterno stove (of course w/Sterno) to boil water in thin bottom pot - and add coffee to any Drip Coffee pot/maker - then pour water over coffee . . . Nice Brewed Coffee, especially when there is no electricity - which I would NEED for stove too . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;)

Take three strands of 32 and chuck 'em in a drill. Twist 'em up. What you end up with is something resembling 28 but with more surface area. My ADV coils are three strands of 30 twisted together.
I started twisting my wire when I saw a video on YouTube by Rip Trippers (?). I discovered that it made wrapping the coils a whole lot easier. I just tighten the wire in a drill and while holding the other end with a pair of plyers. I then store them in a straw that I made end-caps for. It is a quick, easy, and simple process.

Not me! The laws are already in effect. New laws would only take weapons from people that are honest, law-abiding citizens. It would not have any effect whatsoever on criminal activity.
I have never understood why people want "New" laws when it would be simpler to just enforce the laws currently on the books.

    Good morning :)

Diver hubs this morning asked me to tell you to check Home Depot's military discount policy. He said that he thinks HD may not be giving the military discount on larger items or giving the discount up to a certain dollar amount. At least that's what many customers who come to Lowes from HD told him. He also said the only items you won't get your discount at Lowes are those on clearance because they have been discounted so much.
I haven't noticed if they haven't applied the discount to certain items. I'm always just appreciative when I get one. Thank your Hubs for the information.

@Diver9543 I gave hubs your thanks and he conveys this story. Back when my area was hit by Irma lots of people lost everything. At the time hubs was working at Lowes appliances dept and he recalls this one guy who needed to buy all new appliances to the tune of $15-20k. HD wouldn't give him the 10% because his order exceeded their discount ceiling. Lowes doesn't have such a ceiling. The man was so happy to get that $1,500-2,000 discount!
