The only problem with getting this done is crawling around all over the garden and getting up and down.

Um, I find the getting down part is still pretty easy.

Good morning. It's a lovely morning here, just a bit breezy, but the sun is shining off and on through the clouds.

One of the plants I potted up is a Night Sky Petunia. I like petunias, but don't like handling them because they're sticky, but this flower is just so cool!

Yesterday I got the weeds pretty much hoed off the garden (since it's not getting tilled this year). Then I laid down landscape fabric and got 4 tomato plants in. Today I'd like to get the onion sets in (I know it's way late) and the rest of the veggies. This fabric didn't look like it was letting the water seep through. Looks like I got the spun one instead of the woven one so guess I'll be poking some holes all over. At least the sun beating down on that black cloth should kill any weeds trying to come up. Later I'll fold some of the edges back to make sure water gets in. The only problem with getting this done is crawling around all over the garden and getting up and down. These old bones are not too happy about it, but at least it's exercise and I'll have a beautiful garden when it's done.
Oh, that Night Sky petunia is gorgeous! Laura from Proven Winners highlighted that the other day in one of her videos.
Getting up and down does present its challenges!;)

That petunia is so beautiful. We can grow petunias in FL, in fact when we have a mild winter they make it through just fine. I need to see if I can find this one.

Hola .. :)

Testify .. .. the yard's just been too wet to mow, it's getting pretty shaggy looking .. so, Sunday, I spent the bulk of the day scrubbing off the dirt buildup on the deck from over the Winter .. then, hauled out the deck plants ..

It just gets me, I stained that deck last year with a good quality Olympic stain, and just a year later, there is a case to be made for staining it again .. sheesh .. $40 bucks a gallon and can't hardly last a full year ..

Talk about getting shaggy ... I planted this Leyland Cyprus about 30 years ago and never pruned/trimmed the dead wood. They were beginning to act like pungy stakes when I drove the tractor past them when mowing.

A bunch of hours later using the chainsaw and pruners and hauling away about 10 wheel barrows of trimmings it looks much better.

And then there were the two mature white pines opposite them that also needed cleaning up. I love my property but sometimes I think about moving to a condo and letting someone else do all the work.

Good morning Bea. It's a chilly, but beautiful morning here.

Well, the fridge is totally empty and defrosted. Repair guy is supposed to e here between 8-10:00. What a PIA. I'm worried about damaging the tile floor by pulling the fridge out. Mike and our contractor had a job putting it in.

Finally got my new glasses yesterday. Only took a month! They're transition so I'm not having to switch glasses every time I go out. I'm not thrilled about how they fit, but I'll give it some time.

That petunia is so beautiful. We can grow petunias in FL, in fact when we have a mild winter they make it through just fine. I need to see if I can find this one.

The first time I got this petunia was from a local nursery, but don't know if they'd have it again this year so I ordered it from Grow Joy. Should have gotten a couple.

We had our deck repaired and painted last year. They used pair from Sherwin Williams and it still looks lovely this Spring. We'll see how it lasts - supposed to last 5 years.

Just let things grow/do what comes naturally in the wild. No more backbreaking work!

We do have a section in the yard that we let go for wildlife and they seem to love it. The original owners left most of it go wild and just mowed it once a year, but that's pretty disruptive to the critters. We like it mowed because with all the trees Mike has planted over the years it looks like a park. In fact, we found out that the realtor praised the view of our yard when selling our neighbors house. When we finally move from this home it's the yard that we're really going to miss.

There is currently a discussion on our Next-door site about the wildlife in the area. Some people are complaining. Don't know why they moved here then! We totally enjoy seeing and living among all of the wildlife.

The deck still, technically, looks good, just not as good .. I don't think they make stain as robust as they used to .. and, I refuse to cover an all wood deck with paint and obscure the wood .. :)

I'm beginning to think that Sandra (yiddle) just must not like us anymore ..

Hi all!

It's a nice afternoon here, 71deg, sunny, with a slight breeze. Today's walk with the DH took us through downtown where I noticed a sign in a store window and laughed. The sign said 'Stringed Instruments for Sale or Rent' and I automatically followed it up with 'Rooms to let for fifty cents'. The husband gave me one of those looks like I was nuts. Hopefully someone here will appreciate the association. I had King of the Road as an ear worm for the rest of our walk .

Did you put a sealer on top of the stain? That can help.

I suppose there may be some sealer that might work .. when I built this deck, some 15 years ago now, I stained and then sealed .. about 4 years later, it was ready for new stain .. I had a devil of a time with a power washer getting the old sealant off in order for the wood to fully accept the new stain ..

Turtle Hunt 2.jpg

I had a good day. I went out to the farm and did some turtle eradication. Two separate ponds and I took out at least 6 from them. I did see two that were only about as big as a silver dollar sunning on a log, I left them alone. I'm in need of a shower and some lotion as I got a lot of sun. I hope we have some Banana Boat After Sun. It will be uncomfortable tonight but will turn to tan by tomorrow.

Good morning. Oooh, chilly this morning. It's only 39 but it'll warm up to 70 so that's nice.

Yesterday the fridge got fixed and the guy was great at explaining stuff to us. Have to give him a glowing atta boy! We loaded up the freezer once it got cold enough. What a mess dealing with all the ice in the coolers. Today we'll get the fridge loaded back up.

I did get the onions and peppers planted. There's still a lot of work to do in the garden though. You'd think that getting up and down with all this planting I'd be more limber. I'm thinking this whole "exercise is good for you" is a bunch of bunk!

Now you did it. Yep, the tune is stuck there, but now it's joined by 16 Tons and Hit the Road Jack...

I often have this cam from a Czechoslovakia wildlife rehab facility on my TV during the day. Typically it’s focused on a bird feeding area but right now it’s on a Black Stork nest on the prperty. Two of the three eggs hatched! One two days ago and one last night. Cute little fuzz balls!

And if you decide you want to know a bit more about these birds…

Morning, all.

Another rainy day here, cool temps. Just as we like it.

Yeah, there's that. But still, maybe better than needing to do it every year.

Good afternoon everyone! I hope everyone has a good day today!

We've given up on our gardens. We finally had to admit that with the disabilities we have it's too much for us to handle. We're lucky if we mow the yard once a month. Not near often enough but the most we can handle.
