I often have this cam from a Czechoslovakia wildlife rehab facility on my TV during the day. Typically it’s focused on a bird feeding area but right now it’s on a Black Stork nest on the prperty. Two of the three eggs hatched! One two days ago and one last night. Cute little fuzz balls!

And if you decide you want to know a bit more about these birds…
ADW: Ciconia nigra: INFORMATION

There's 4 eggs in the nest! Or maybe 1 more egg and a shell? Geez, they're all legs and beak and the chicks are SO tiny! It always amazes me that birds with long beaks can feed their young without killing them!

Good afternoon everyone! I hope everyone has a good day today!

We've given up on our gardens. We finally had to admit that with the disabilities we have it's too much for us to handle. We're lucky if we mow the yard once a month. Not near often enough but the most we can handle.

It's true, it is a lot of work and each year it gets harder to do. I only get a little done at a time. Hopefully the black cloth will help keep the weeds down and I won't have to fuss too much with that. As the season goes on I usually do less and less hoeing and ripping out the weeds til it looks like a jungle out there. I have a 1/2 barrel planter on the deck that the little Sun Sweet cherry tomatoes grow in. It's convenient and is a lot less work.

Actually you could get a raised planter and grow things in there. A lot less work, you don't have to bend over and you can put it wherever it's convenient for you.

Hola .. :)

Speaking of yard work, I had to force myself to mow today, as it seems today was the only day forthcoming without rain in the forecast .. it had been 2 weeks .. clippings were heavy, I thought a minute about bagging, but quickly gave up on that ..

Under the mower deck, I'm sure it's caked up .. a few low spots were just plain swamp .. I am glad I cleaned under the deck / sharpened the blade earlier in the year ..

Good morning. Looks like we might get some of that rain today, but it's mild outside and this lighting makes the colors of the flowers pop.

Yesterday I took a chance and went to our local nursery to see if it was open. I'd just read an article about how precarious their business was doing during the shutdown. Evidently the locals didn't know that because I got the last open parking space on their lot. Man, my body was not ready for the heat in the greenhouses! Still, it was lovely strolling through and I got the plants I needed, but that little trip wiped me out. Today I' like to get a few things planted in the garden and get the raised planter filled and ready for some bush beans and herbs.

Good morning, all. We are currently having some thunderstorms here in the metro. At least I now know why my body woke me up. Oh well, that is why I have the magic pills. They really don't make the pain go away, but I just don't care about the pain for a while. It looks like a stay inside and binge-watch something on Prime kind of day. I hope everyone has a good day or at least a good attitude about their day.
On a side note, I just upgraded my account for another couple of years.

Hola .. :)

Slightly overcast and mild .. humidity is high, which is generally why the sky is white .. I think this morning my gauge said 90% ..

I plan on hitting a couple plant nurseries today or tomorrow .. I have a giant pot that was used in a commercial setting and that I salvaged, it's probably at least 48" in diameter .. I plan on finding me a plant that can live in a pot, outdoors, year round and place it on the deck ..

Suggestions welcome .. my Zone shows -10 to -5o "extreme minimum temperature" ..

Good afternoon!

Spent the morning cleaning and disinfecting, then dh and I headed to the store! Folks there were very considerate, wearing their masks. At one point, a woman was waiting her turn at the pasta shelf, and she coughed.......I looked back at her, and she laughed and said........no, I'm not sick, just have allergies......well, we struck up a nice conversation, of course, staying our distance, and it made the shopping trip a bit more enjoyable.

Another attempt for some brevity; while it is a long read, I laughed throughout! We need all the laughter we can get! :)

GARDEN SNAKES CAN BE DANGEROUS...
Snakes also known as Garter Snakes (Thamnophissirtalis) can be dangerous Yes, grass snakes, not rattlesnakes. Here's why.

A couple in Sweetwater, Texas, had a lot of potted plants. During a recent cold spell, the wife was bringing a lot of them indoors to protect them from a possible freeze.

It turned out that a little green garden grass snake was hidden in one of the plants. When it had warmed up, it slithered out and the wife saw it go under the sofa.

She let out a very loud scream.

The husband (who was taking a shower) ran out into the living room naked to see what the problem was. She told him there was a snake under the sofa.

He got down on the floor on his hands and knees to look for it. About that time the family dog came and cold-nosed him on the behind. He thought the snake had bitten him, so he screamed and fell over on the floor.

His wife thought he had had a heart attack, so she covered him up, told him to lie still and called an ambulance.

The attendants rushed in, would not listen to his protests, loaded him on the stretcher, and started carrying him out.

About that time, the snake came out from under the sofa and the Emergency Medical Technician saw it and dropped his end of the stretcher. That's when the man broke his leg and why he is still in the hospital.

The wife still had the problem of the snake in the house, so she called on a neighbor who volunteered to capture the snake. He armed himself with a rolled-up newspaper and began poking under the couch.. Soon he decided it was gone and told the woman, who sat down on the sofa in relief.

But while relaxing, her hand dangled in between the cushions, where she felt the snake wriggling around. She screamed and fainted, the snake rushed back under the sofa.

The neighbor man, seeing her lying there passed out, tried to use CPR to revive her.

The neighbor's wife, who had just returned from shopping at the grocery store, saw her husband's mouth on the woman's mouth and slammed her husband in the back of the head with a bag of canned goods, knocking him out and cutting his scalp to a point where it needed stitches.

The noise woke the woman from her dead faint and she saw her neighbor lying on the floor with his wife bending over him, so she assumed that the snake had bitten him. She went to the kitchen and got a small bottle of whiskey, and began pouring it down the man's throat.

By now, the police had arrived.
Breathe here...

They saw the unconscious man, smelled the whiskey, and assumed that a drunken fight had occurred. They were about to arrest them all, when the women tried to explain how it all happened over a little garden snake!

The police called an ambulance, which took away the neighbor and his sobbing wife.

Now, the little snake again crawled out from under the sofa and one of the policemen drew his gun and fired at it. He missed the snake and hit the leg of the end table. The table fell over, the lamp on it shattered and, as the bulb broke, it started a fire in the drapes.

The other policeman tried to beat out the flames, and fell through the window into the yard on top of the family dog who, startled, jumped out and raced into the street, where an oncoming car swerved to avoid it and smashed into the parked police car.

Meanwhile, neighbors saw the burning drapes and called in the fire department. The firemen had started raising the fire ladder when they were halfway down the street. The rising ladder tore out the overhead wires, put out the power, and disconnected the telephones in a ten-square city block area (but they did get the house fire out).

Time passed! Both men were discharged from the hospital, the house was repaired, the dog came home, the police acquired a new car and all was right with their world.

A while later they were watching TV and the weatherman announced a cold snap for that night. The wife asked her husband if he thought they should bring in their plants for the night.

And that's when he shot her.

There are many plants you can use. I would suggest a low growing shrub and you could plant some annual flowers around it in the spring. Personally I love butterfly bushes because they are perennial, very low maintenance, make pretty heads of flowers and smell heavenly. They can get pretty large but take pruning very well.

What you need to decide is how large is large enough for you, do you mind having to water if needed and will this pot be in full sun or partial. This last part will determine a lot. Then go to a reputable garden center…not big box stores…and tell them what you want and how much sun you have. They will show you what will work for you.

Thanks, Bea .. I nosed around Mr/Ms Google some .. I found these kind of slim evergreens that are OK with the Winter cold .. I forgot what they are called now but they grow pretty narrow and are used in rows in many cases .. I figured I could get one of those and then plant some nice flowery stuff around the base ..

@Anise do you mind my asking about which part you disagree?
It was an accident. I use my phone when I come online and I have big fingers. Usually I catch it when I click on the wrong feeling but I missed this one. I'm very sorry and I'll try to be more careful.

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone has a good day today!

We have 3 very large dogs coming in today. It should be a law that you can't bring your humongous dogs to a groomer for a bath. The assistant will get stuck washing the dog after they figure out how to get it in the raised tub! :p

Good rainy morning. I've been waiting since 6:00 for the rain to stop so I can put out the suet, but it hasn't let up yet. I also want to empty the dishes under the potted plants so they don't drown. Might just have to put on my raincoat to get the job done.

You could plant a whole veggie garden in that pot! Well, it would probably be better if you had more sun. Yep, I think going to a garden center in your area and telling them your situation they'd be able to recommend what would work best in your area. Be careful though, make sure you find a worker who actually does know something about plants and isn't just there to water and take your money!

Arbor vitae? Put a row of them in here years back. Relatively slow growing, kinship with cedars. Fairly sturdy, although getting too dry isn't good. But they ARE trees, and will eventually outgrow any planter. So may (or may not ;) ) want to consider something that won't grow to 20'

And happy Saturday, loungers :thumb:

No covid here!
