I've heard that gifted donuts have no calories :)
I read that on the internet too, so it must be true.

Morning, all.

Two days of summer was apparently too many, back to spring. Anybody's guess where the showers will scatter.

We have had some gorgeous weather. Monday I got out that "beast" and did ALL the yard work including push mowing, edging, and blowing everything off. I may have the deck a little low. My friend said if it were dry, I would kill my grass. I am not sure I would mind that at all, to tell the truth. That would be even better than a goat

Dang, just reading that makes me tired! If only astro-turf wasn't so spendy....

Hola .. :|

Trust me, it's crossed my mind ..

There are 'buts' to it.

Typically it has a lifespan of about 10 years, so initial cost plus 10 years later cost of taking it up, paying to dispose the old 'yard' and laying a new one.

It's not totally maintenance free. It needs to be raked to keep it 'standing' up. Any foot traffic will just mush the grass down. Natural grass would eventually pop back up not fake grass.

And you need to periodically sprinkle some kind of mixture (there's different kinds) onto it it help the grass blades stand up.

Well, thought I'd drop by to say 'hi' to y'all.

Been keeping myself mighty busy with yard work! With the freeze we had, I had a lot of dead branches that needed to come off, so I've been doing that.

Have to take a few days off cause this morning at bowling, I twisted my leg and somehow strained a muscle, so I went for a massage that helped a bit but I'm still not going to push it.

I haven't caught up on the thread, and at this point, it's futile.

Other than that, all is going well, and I'm hanging in there.......getting better each day, but Lord, how I miss my man!!!

Morning, all.

Spring continues, cool and wet.

Thanks for dropping by! Indeed, don't push the healing, we don't do that as quickly as we used to!

Hmm, green cement :)

The floors are FINALLY done! Yay! Now we can re-arrange the furniture a few times until we get it right. We've got the run of both floors of the house and it's wonderful!

I had to order some more certified copies of Dad's Death Certificate. Luckily the cremation place can get them for me and I do not have to drive downtown. They should be in next week. I did not know how many I would need.

My cousin gave me her brand new, still-in-the-box printer yesterday. I don't know how people buy something and never use it. Sheesh! She loves McDonald's Caramel Frappa somethings so I went by there and took her one. Of course, when I saw they had Mocha Frappa somethings, I could not resist so I got one too. Pretty good I must say.

I guess the thyroid meds are doing something. Definitely increasing my metabolism. Since I started them, I have dropped 7 lbs without trying to. I worked hard for the first 60 lbs and let me tell you, this was a lot easier. View attachment 994923

Cindy, my girlfriend is going to come over around lunch today and take a look at my printer. I have tried everything I know (which is not much). I think it has something to do with my new internet at AT&T. The printer and the router are sitting a couple of feet away and I am only getting a medium signal. I would think I should get a strong but I am not sure. Hopefully, I will get it working soon because that attorney sent me 9 PDFs I had to print and do something with. Sheesh! It sure is less difficult to be born than to pass away.

Hope everyone has a great day!
Always order a couple more than you think you'll need-you never know when something will crop up that you'll need one for.

Why do you bother going to the gym? Isn't the yard work enough? The doc recently asked me if I did any exercising and I asked him isn't that what housework is for?

Years ago I started loosing weight for no reason and back then I didn't need to loose any weight. I also had more energy than usual. Turned out my thyroid went bonkers and got stuck in overdrive. Finally got that fixed and now it's under active and I have to take a pill each day. I think as we get older our thyroid gets worn out and that's why so many people end up having to take meds to correct it. It's a good idea to have it checked once in awhile to make sure it's behaving.

Seemed so odd to need padding, Do you have to remove the existing grass first? I think you should get the red kind, You'll be the talk of the town or maybe the yellow so you'll be able to find your house after a night of partying.

Well Hi back at 'cha!! So glad to hear you're keeping busy and tending to the yard. Those branches have a habit of dropping in all over the place no matter how much pruning you do. And its' good to hear you're keeping up with the bowling, but be careful with the celebratory gymnastics when you get a strike. We ain't no spring chickens anymore!

I have only had one UTI in my life until this week. Yay me. It wasn't much fun to go to the doctor when I had insurance. I enjoyed it even less with no insurance. Oh well, gotta do watch gotta do.

I have been taking it easy for 2 days and it just feels weird. I miss walking but my knee seems to be enjoying the rest. I am not sure walking is as healthy as I thought.

Had the septic tank pumped this morning (it had been 5 years). My appointment was at 8 and he called my cell phone at 7:15 and said he was in the driveway. I had not even had my coffee but at least I was dressed.

Dad has used the same man for as long as I can remember so I called him too. He is a very nice man and they are quite a religious family. I am just not so sure I would put "Jesus Saves" on my truck if I was him. When he found out that Dad had passed we talked about maintenance on the house. He gave a referral for a plumber, electrician, and a well man. I thought that was quite nice of him and I really appreciated it.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week.

Morning, misfits.

Rain continues here, along with cooler temps. Maybe we'll have another couple days of summer next month :)

The doc recently asked me if I did any exercising and I asked him isn't that what housework is for?

That, and garden / yard work.

Indeed! Nice to get that sort of info from a trusted source.

Hola .. :|

Yeah, I get that question at every check up .. I always answer, 'Yes, at least 5 hours per week ..' .. I don't stipulate where it comes from .. however, I firmly believe house work, yard work, etc, qualifies ..

And, I don't even add in the time I put in doing physical work at the workshop ..

One of my stock lines is 'I'll outwork any younger person, it's just going to take me longer ..'

On a side note, I returned the battery lawnmower and went with the deal I had on a Honda gas unit .. the electric was nice enough, I liked it OK, but the thicker the grass got, the lesser the battery run time, so that was a drag .. and, extra batteries cost as much, almost, as the whole kit and kaboodle did ..

Not saying I won't go back to battery at some point .. but I just don't think, as far as lawn mowers go, it's reached prime time just yet .. weedwhackers and other small tools, yeah, but a lawn mower is a little different proposition ..

What I need is one of them robotic lawn mowers .. maybe eventually there will be one that would both mow your yard and vacuum your carpet .. ?? Oh, but that would then cut back on my exercise time .. conundrum ..

On a side, side note .. I finally felt comfortable enough with night temperatures to drag out the deck plants yesterday .. my back is reminding me of that today .. and put out the Hummingbird feeders as I had heard reports of sightings in the area ..

Modern deck stain is crap .. I stained the deck just 2 years ago and it looks like it needs to be stained again .. and, I had used a high grade Olympic stain that cost about $50 bucks a gallon ..

10 years ago, I'd get 5 years out of deck stain .. maybe it's climate change .. ??

I wanted to immediately write about Gordon Lightfoot, but I did not, choosing to instead just listen to my copies of his old vinyl and reflect .. in my life, the death of Tom Petty, Prince, John Denver, Freddy Mercury, David Bowie, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Lennon, and oh so many others, has always had an emotional effect on me .. probably based on having a reminder of all our eventual mortality and mostly because the loss of a great artist and the World being a poorer place because of it ..

Lightfoot is certainly up at the top of my list as a guy I admired greatly .. I saw Lightfoot live 4 times, each during various phases in his career .. the last time was probably about 10 years ago at a small venue in St Louis .. I was lucky enough to know a guy involved with that tour who procured me a backstage pass and I met and spoke with Lightfoot for maybe 10 minutes ..

Despite the 'No Smoking' sign, he lit up a Marlboro .. I've never been one to kow tow to anyone, including celebrities .. I am who I am and I act the same no matter who's around .. so, we just talked about this and that .. no fawning over how great I thought he was, just a quick discussion between a couple guys, at the end of which, I pointed to that old Martin he plays and has owned forever, used to write many of the great hits on and asked him if I could pick it up and strum it for a second .. 'Sure, knock yourself out .. '

I thanked him as I left and shook his hand .. and, that was that ..

Here is a brief piece done a couple years back .. I would also highly recommend, if you have Amazon Prime, to seek out and watch 'If You Could Read My Mind', the full length documentary .. it's well worth a watch ..

Agree. But they (mowers and such) do seem to be going to higher and higher voltages, and that should help some on run time. Yup, extra batteries are needed, but at a price that doesn't get you a second tool! (And why, when I got my 40 volt chain saw I also got their 40 volt blower, both came with battery and charger, and yes, the blower with everything was about $10 more than just another battery...)

Modern deck stain is crap .. I stained the deck just 2 years ago and it looks like it needs to be stained again .. and, I had used a high grade Olympic stain that cost about $50 bucks a gallon ..

Yup. It's for the children. Well, the world they'll have to live in. A lot of the "good" and lasting chemicals have been banned over the years. Remember red lead paint? Best anti-rust primer ever made, imo. Gone with the wind.

Happy to say the two antibiotics she gave me are finally making me feel better and I have not run any fever today.

I passed on the gym but it was such a beautiful day, I had to get out and walk. I ended up getting over 16,000 steps. It could stay like today 360 days a year. Snow the other 5.

My friend Cindy came over again today to futz with the printer. She brought me some fried rice that she had made and it was so good. Had lots of chicken in it. I air-fried some fresh green beans and I will be doing that again too. She brought a little bundt cake with cream cheese frosting. It looked like a huge cupcake and I ate every bite of it. I am sitting here wondering why I ate so much. I have been hungry all week.
Let's Eat.gif

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
