Oh man, I am seeing the most beautiful sunrise this morning! There's a certain time of sunrise around here with all the red dirt and stuff where the light turns almost bronze everywhere too, (for about five minutes). Am I glad I looked out the window just now. :)

Also fairly warm, LOL.

Good morning everyone!

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved grave but rather to skid in broadside thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming "WOW, what a ride!"

Wishing everyone a joyous, happy, healthy New Year full of love!

I love this^^^^^. When I get morose about certain things that arrive in a woman's life at certain ages, I decide to celebrate it. I stopped dying my hair and it's half white (although one side of my family does that early, and I lean towards that side... I'm keeping my nic since Alzheimer's also leans towards that side.) So I decided to let it grow, and I think it looks great. When I look at my (decreased, thanks to vaping) wrinkles, I just figure I earned them. LOL. I have cheated life enough to need a back-brace if I'm doing heavy lifting or packing (old car accident).... and then I think of all the stuff that could have taken me out and didn't. I used to think "Life fast and die young," was a great saying. I now think the phrase "Live fast and die elderly however I may look," to be more realistic.

Since I don't believe in plastic surgery (except for when it's indicated due to birth defects or a horrible accident) I have also found myself noting how great and interesting older folks look, rather than chasing eternal youth. Heck, I see kids driving and go "Why is an 11 year old driving." LOL.

I will also add, that while I have new years goals, they aren't resolutions. I change when I change, and that's that. Also, after switching to vaping this year, I figure I have completed the New Year's resolution I had at 18 to "quit smoking" about 3 months after I started. That HAS to count. :)

I'm seriously thinking of stopping dying my hair. My hair is 75% white. I wear it really short, about 1.5" all over so I need to touch up the new growth about every 3 weeks. Really considering it.

You will be glad you did it, if only for freeing yourself from the frequent touchups. As short as it is, it should grow out quickly, but you can use some temporary color to ease the transition. I was coloring from the first time I noticed some grey, but quit quite early. The shine of silver if you use purple shampoo can be quite beautiful. I have a younger friend who came from an early grey family, and her long hair is quite attractive. I also know an Asian woman whose grey roots seem to be always showing, I really don't think she knows how bad it looks. My hair is getting thinner, and I am thinking of going a bit shorter than 2.5 inches on top to get it to look a bit thicker. A bit overdue for another haircut.

I'm glad I quit dying it (and I did it myself, so it was kinda fun). In my twenties, I was camping at a festival and ran into this older woman in the communal showers area and she was combing her long, silver hair. I was totally captivated and said, "Oh, I LOVE your hair, it's beautiful! I can't wait until mine gets like that!" She gave me this angelic smile and said, "I know...."

Now that I'm not dying my hair is about halfway down my back and an age appropriate (married) guy in AA came up to me and said, "I love your hair... I mean, I just love grey hair especially when it's long... .Yours is going to be spectacular!" I just laughed and thought of that lady and said, "I know."

I felt kind of bad when I met his wife and she had a short, grey bob. I know the world "says" that to look "youthful" you have to have short hair, and the number of women my age who were astounded as I was growing it out said, "OMG, I could NEVER do that, I have so much grey!" I just laugh, and say, "I know."

I have a feeling I'm going to be that lady really soon and it's AWESOME. :) Do I care if my son's friends think I'm a MILF? Absolutely not, I always found that GROSS. :)

Through the years I have been brunette....blonde....redhead, which I wore for a good many years...;) I am at last attaining a natural 'platinum blonde'... I stopped coloring my hair years ago because of so many women I saw who, in attempting to still appear young, had hair coloring that was too harsh, and only accentuated their aging... besides, as Anna said in reference to wrinkles....I earned everyone of these silver hairs...;)

To color, or not to color....short or long....all depends on the individual....what they are comfortable with, and what they are able to carry off...;) My hair was short in those pics, for ease of care while in Florida where some of us gathered. It's past my shoulders now, and too long. My hair has gotten thinner and too much length has me looking like a scraggly Halloween witch...

ETA: won't let me post the second pic..:( so....that's me on the left...

BS !

I am 61, my hair is almost to the chair when I sit and I love my silver sparklers and my whites.

I had to suddenly put my 16 year old soul kitty to sleep yesterday - the pain is unbearable.

I'm so sorry @classwife. I'm reminded of my first kitty that died when I was about 11... It's so sad. Cats are extremely lovable and personable in my opinion... Unfortunately I became allergic, but several "outdoor" cats have shown up at my door since that time, and they were all well loved. :( I'm sorry for your loss.

@classwife I am so sorry for your loss and sadness. Many of our pets share their lives with us for longer time frames than our human relationships. It is so hard to say goodbye. I've always believed that ending their suffering is the last best gift we can give our beloved faithful companions. Time will soften the pain.

I'm seriously thinking of stopping dying my hair. My hair is 75% white. I wear it really short, about 1.5" all over so I need to touch up the new growth about every 3 weeks. Really considering it.

I dyed my hair for years trying to cover the gray, but enough of it started coming in so I just let it grow and now it's a natural salt and pepper. I'm very lucky that the gray came in silver and blends in nice so I'm happy with it. I really didn't enjoy spending so much time coloring it anyway. I love long gray hair and so wish I could wear it pulled back into a bun or pony tail, but I just look stupid so I keep it short. One of these days I just might try a super short do!

I totally agree about older women not needing to keep their hair short! Long gray hair is gorgeous if it's kept nice. Your hair looks great long so do what makes you happy and know that it looks perfect on you!

And {{{{Classy}}}}, I'm so very sorry to hear about your kitty. It's such a hard price to pay for so many years of sharing your life. I agree with Zen, as hard as it is, letting them go is one of the best gifts you could give them. Take comfort that your kitty had a very good life with you.
