Holy crap ... 11am and it's 84º and 61% humidity already. After an hour outside mowing, it feels even yuckier than that. Praise the Lord for air conditioning

Welcome to my World .. ;)

Interesting chatter about Lyme Disease .. I was not really up on it all that much, so did a little reading and it does appear to be increasing ::

    cdc-lyme-map-grayscale.gif

From the way the "rash" presents itself, you'd think it would be fairly easy to spot unless it's on a part of your body you don't see much of ..

We've had a case or two of West Nile Virus pop up already around these parts ..

The problem is that not everybody gets the rash. Mine was on the back side of my hip and Mike was the one who noticed it. Without that telltale sign it's no wonder that docs don't think to test for it unless you live in an area like ours where it's a common disease to get. I had 3 bullseyes so must have had 3 ticks and never saw them. And contrary to common thought, those ticks are not just carried by deer. Other animals carry them as well.

Speaking of diseases. Has anyone seen the new recommendation by the CDC for a new shingles vaccine called Shingrix? It's supposed to be much better than the vaccine Zostavax that has been available for a few years now. My doctor had mention to me that there was a new one coming out soon that he thought was much better so I guess this is it. If anybody is interested

So...Shirley, the lady who takes me to shop, broke the rules this morning and took me to the P.O.... I wasn't happy with the ebay seller's response and decided to find out if any shipping at all had been paid and why the amount USPS wanted was so much. It had been sent via Media Mail and I had checked the rates for that yesterday....the amount the PO wanted was for something weighing close to 13 lbs!! They wanted to know what was inside, and I told them it was only blank DVDs. Told them to go ahead and open it to look. Be forewarned Folks....if you send a blank CD or DVD, the USPS doesn't consider it media, it has to be recorded on. The package had already been opened by someone there, inspected, a notice saying it didn't qualify for Media mail tucked inside, and they wanted the amount paid for regular parcel post. I asked them if I had ordered a journal that hadn't yet been written in... if that wasn't allowed either...o_O

Bottom line is...they didn't make me pay it...this time...;) It might have helped that I also told them that I live in another Borough, no transportation, making it difficult to come there, and that whomever my carrier is does not bother to knock and ask for the money when postage is due...if he/she even bothers to pick up the re-delivery notice, as has happened in the past.

Yikes! :-x Quick thinking re: the 'journal' analogy. :thumb:

Arrrrrrrrrgh! The package was already opened? And what prompted that? Are our packages now being searched?

According to the notice tucked inside the box...Media Mail is subject to inspection...:grr: I don't have a clue what they expected to find, nor do I know if they are inspecting other kinds of mail...but I really don't like it...

    Finally...

"Sorry our full site is currently unavailable. We'll be back up and running soon.

One of Comcast's large backbone network partners had a fiber cut that we believe is also impacting other providers. It is currently affecting our business and residential internet, video and voice customers. We apologize and are working to get services restored as soon as possible."

Well at least they let you know something. Now you can relax knowing that it isn't just that they don't like you. Or the new owners of your building are messing around with the cable company. Or a solar flare is confusing the electronics. Boy, I can think of a lot of possibilities when I don't know what's really going on.

Yeah, well .. the truth is, USPS is cracking down on Media Mail .. over the last few months, I've Media Mailed some 2" Audio Master tapes, which are fairly heavy, yet actually did have recorded music on them ..

USPS inspected the package and deemed it did not qualify .. over the insistence of the Recipient that it was, in fact, recorded media .. but how do you prove that without a 2" reel to reel deck you can pull out of your .... and cue it up .. ??

Of course, the 6 year old at the desk was likely not even in the Womb yet when reel to reel was King and had no clue on Analog Tape ..

After grousing and demanding a Post Master (who was, of course, on Vacation) .. rather than being held Hostage, he paid the extorted Freight ..

And don't even get me started on the Movement to Privatize USPS (or the VA, for that matter) ..

Never, in all the years that I've mailed Reel Media, have I ever had this come up until now .. I won't hypothesize on why now, but there is a trail of Breadcrumbs ..

Saw a similar article not to long ago, but just looked it up. Thought I'd pass it on in case anyone was interested. At least these ticks are big enough to be seen. The deer ticks that spread Lyme are such teeny tiny little things.

East Asian tick species arrives in New Jersey, could carry dangerous virus
We found a deer tick on my hubs and worried about Rocky Mountain spotted fever but blood test was negative ..and you're right, they are tiny compared to "regular" ticks.

    Question for the Collective ::

Any experience with one of these "air fryers" .. ??

I was flipping Channels last night and paused on either HSN or QVC .. of course, like all things on a Shopping Network, they could convince you that it's possible to turn Lead to Gold VIA Alchemy or ingest a Magical Elixir and be 29 again .. o_O

Yet, this "air fryer" seemed intriguing ..

No I don't have one or know anyone who does, but I'm curious too.
