Ain't nothing like the Jersey Shore ...

Nana and Hux running down the boards

Hux just loved chasing the sea gulls on the boards and/or the beach ...

Brian and Hux on Brian's 'One Wheel'. Its battery operated, cruises up to 15 mph with an 18 mile range per charge. Brian says it's like snow boarding on dry land. Hux loved catching a ride on it and "boy oh boy" was it a hit on the boardwalk ... lots of folks were watching and asking questions about it. Even the 'bike cops' stopped Brian to ask him questions about it and didn't mind him riding it on the boards.

Funny....odd? How we can all have our own places that call to us...;) I love the rugged coastline of Oregon...the color of the ocean and the pure snow white of the coral beaches I went to on Guam. I enjoy watching the waves rolling in on the ocean, I've enjoyed beaches in a lot of different places, but....I am called to the mountains, the streams, lakes and rivers that flow through them, sometimes rushing and tumbling.. and other times calm and placid....but mostly to the mountains themselves.
I totaly love your descriptions here. Beautifully worded . I love the mountains but my heart is in the ocean. Maybe because I grew up one block away from it and I spent every summer of my childhood at our oceanside villa in a resort area about an hour away from our city. I think I spent as much time in the water as outside of it in my first few years of life. Even now I feel at home swimming under the surface with my eyes open checking the ocean floor. The sound of the waves breaking against the shore, whether hard of soft, is music to my ears, and the sight of an open ocean expanse soothes my soul.

On the other hand my other most favorite memory is of sitting on the edge of a cliff above the timberline on Mt Evans in Colorado and looking down below at the trees. It was so wonderfully quiet up there, the only sound that of the wind whistling.

There, these are my most treasured memories outside of those of my son.

Good morning! :)

Went to early Mass this morning, so I could have the rest of the day for garden cleanup. Most of the pots will be emptied and planted in the ground.
It's beautiful outside this morning, and actually had to wear a sweater to Mass.

Oh my, brings back so many treasured memories, and those pictures are true treasures......always loved this time of year at the 'boards'.

My childhood/young adult summers were spent in Sea Isle City, so for 3 months every year, I was in a state of bliss!
The ocean calls my name, and on my way to Mass, I cross the bridge over to Flagler Beach, and there she is, in all her glory........the ocean!!! What a site to see the Church and the ocean all at the same time!! Glorious!

I put on some warm clothing this morning, put on a lightweight coat, and rode my scooter to 8:00 Mass. 42 F. After Mass, I rode my scooter to a restaurant between the church and where I live, and had breakfast with a cousin who lives in Alaska. They are visiting his wife's parents who coincidentally live here. Tom and I meet yearly and have a lot to talk about, especially genealogy. After breakfast, I rode my scooter home, and he drove his rental, and we shared genealogical information.

Funny you should mention it. I too love areas around the sea. There is a different "feeling", a different energy around it. Maybe it's the salt air or the sun. I don't know. But people seem more relaxed, smile more, seem happier. I grew up on a seashore and I still feel that energy anytime I revisit it…up in Jax or on any seaside town or beach in Florida.

@Uncle you agree?

Given "Your" post & question - there is definitely an "Energy" and a "Different Feeling " of sorts . . . The quite sound of the waves, salt air & breezes, and physically being in the ocean waters was what has always effected "Me" most . . . AND - The Small Beach Towns too . . . But honestly, I don't really know if I would totally agree or not about people being more relaxed, smiling more, nor happier . . . IMHO - I truly think it has to do with why the people are there and who they are . . . Or - Maybe that has more to do with what I have observed about the people I've seen over the past few years living in a major tourist area and since I went to the beach last - which 5-6 years ago (only do drive-by's now) . . .

Even with that said . . . After reading "@Uncle Willie" & "@yiddleboge6" post I was hit by so many memories of the "Shore", especially originally being a "Jersey Boy" (BTW: Which does not negate the FACT that I was a New Yorker then - When I moved into NYC, nor Now - I will always be a New Yorker . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;) ) . . . More specifically, Asbury Park & Belmar, also - Wildwood, Atlantic City, Long Beach Island . . . Also brought back memories of "Bumper Cars", Cotton Candy / Candy Apples / salt Water Taffy, PIZZA . . . AND - Memories of the beaches when I lived in NYC - it was Rockaway Beach and especially Jones Beach whenever I could get there with "My" Friends . . .

Matter of fact, throughout "My" lifetime any water way . . . Creeks/Rivers/Lakes/Ocean . . . was actually a respite for "Me" and from what might be happening in "Life" . . . Whether it was meditating on what "Life" itself had to offer "Me" or getting away from what "Life" was for "Me" . . . AND - Now being so close to a beach (let alone "The Shore") it is different for "Me" - while I would still like going to a quite beach, I can't - I have to stay out of the sun as much as possible given the meds I take . . . Oh Well - That's "Life" for many of "Us' . . . ;)

But David, there was hardly anybody on the boardwalk and even less on the beach! Hux could run to his hearts content and we didn't loose sight of him. Freedom and fun!!!
It may have been a blessing that the weather was less than stellar for your wonderful week at the shore...:)

The sun came out yesterday, and one of my Jersey friends in Brigantine went to the beach....posted this morning....

'Party Hearty' time at the Jersey Shore...

Well after all this 'shore talk' ... I must confess, I truly enjoy the peace and solitude of getting away for a few days fishing. And sometimes the 'approach' is more enjoyable then the actual fishing. At times I find my self enjoying the views more than trying to fool a trout to my hook.
