Aaaah, this is the Washington we love!
Had orders back in 1996 to come up to what some of us boys in blue called the slop yard, Keyport. They wanted me going to A school to figure out repairing, refitting, arming torpedoes. There was also the routine dispatch to damage control as a fireman included. Never quite made it. Two weeks active in Western Fleet at Great Lakes and I got processed out due to what they said was 'medical', the 214 read as 'improperly educated'. Fellow that was a Mas'r Chief broiler tech who had known me since I was a baby thought it was a basic 'railroading out'. Not sure who's crawl I got stuck in or why but that's the breaks of life.
Better off now anyway despite having missed seeing WA. Having grown up in the backyard of Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge mountains, I probably would have fallen deeply in love with the wilds there in WA.
