What a great idea! When we had our dog my biggest problem was leaning over the tub to bathe her. And then I have to clean the tub and half the bathroom if I couldn't get her wrapped up before she shook water and soap all over the place. And if I could have stood up comfortably while doing it she would have gotten a lot more baths! I definitely would take advantage of a place like this!
Get an Abby Dabby dog (Min Pin). They don't need bathing on a regular basis. I think Abby has had a bath once in her 8 years. Doesn't smell or anything. Min pins generally have dry skin and if you bathe them they dry out worse and get dandruff and such.

@oldbroad ...Welcome back..:) Did you catch a lot of fish? More importantly....did you have a wonderful time?

It's good to be home:) ..but...no fishing, no pontoon ride, the weather was uncooperative...but, we ate a lot of previously-caught bluegill and a whole lot of venison! Played euchre for hours n hours and my GD got to see herds of deer, including quite a few bucks, at a brother's farm and I bought three loaves of REAL English muffin bread:)oh...and fresh -from-the-farm corn and cukes:) I had to come home Thurs. n go to the Doc's..I probably slept a total of 16 hrs. in four days...had to get up about every two-three hours to go potty ( i know...too much info). Yesterday the Dr. called in an antibiotic..only took two pills yesterday and i was back to "normal":)
I went to bed yesterday around three or four in the afternoon ...I just got up!:D
But...just hanging out with my family was well worth it!
Oh...and my Gd got to go three-wheeling thru all kinds of muddy backwoods trails:D My bro lead the way....he and his ride were covered in mud:D

I've been far too mobile since retiring from the military, and the massive collection of books I had accumulated through the years had to be given away. I still love to read, so the invention of the tablet has been a godsend. Now I can collect books like crazy in digital format, and not worry about where I'm going to store them or haul them in the case of another move.

I agree! With flying around so much the kindle was so convenient and it contains so many books. And it doesn't need a lamp to read by. My bookshelves were getting out of hand so now they're home to the few books that don't work so well in electronic form.

My dream was to open a used book store but I couldn't justify all the weight and space four large Rubbermaid tubs would cost to move.

Only FOUR?!?!?!?

When we moved from Virginia to Florida the only hard cover book I kept was my autographed edition of Tom Clancy's "Hunt for Red October." I actually got to know the arrogant p.... fairly well back in the early 90s. For an ex insurance agent he thought he was the smartest dude around. I have to admit he wrote pretty good books, at least the first 4 or 5, until he realized he got paid by the word or something and got extremely verbose.

Funny, that. Never met him, so can't say. But.

When October came out, I was still a shipyard electrician. We were building the guided missile frigates - FFG class - that he used in the book. They were still pretty new to the fleet, maybe 3 or 4 had been commissioned by then. Reading his descriptions of CIC (Combat Information Center on a ship), which required a security clearance to enter.... uh, how did he know the locations of each and every console in the compartment? So at least "smart" enough to know who to know to get access!

That he was, that's how I first met him, giving a tour of CIC. That's where I work while in the Navy. I was a Operations Specialist. OSCS.

Knowing your background...I was wondering if that had something to do with getting to know him and receiving the signed book...;)

It's a gray, gloomy 56 degrees here, with a constant slow drizzle of rain. When I lived in Oregon, I loved the rain, how green and sparkling the foliage was outside and the air smelling so fresh. Maybe it's that I only have a view of a street out my front window, and a parking lot out back, that makes me feel so blue on days like this?

Whether or not anyone ever liked the "No Child Left Behind" act, it was replaced in 2015 with the "Every Student Succeeds" act .. in the new act, for the first time in the History of the United States, the Arts were identified as part of what would be considered a Well-Rounded Education .. recognizing that math, science, literacy, etc, are not, in and of themselves, enough .. the inclusion of the Arts in ESSA was a giant step forward in nurturing Students at all levels that, perhaps, lean more toward the Right Brain (see earlier Post) .. :) .. A Well Rounded Education makes for a More Well Rounded Populace .. :)

Some of you that have read Posts I've made in times past, may recall that I am a Big Advocate of Arts in Education and it's an issue I follow .. while I have no real beef with Schools that spend plenty of Money on Sports Programs, it seems to me, that over the years, the cuts that happen in many School Districts due to budgetary issues and what not, are first cuts in Arts programs .. whether it be Music or whatever .. while, at the same time, attempting to preserve the Football / Basketball, etc programs at all costs .. thus, I was quite happy when ESSA became the Law and thusly, allowed the unlocking of Federal Funds with which to financially assist these type programs .. :)

While initially, ESSA had 1.65 Billion annually (2016) in Grants authorized (a tiny drop in the Federal Budget) for Student Support and Enrichment .. the 2018 Budget is now projected to allocate 0 (zero)

When I was in High School, I was mentored by a Great Teacher that saw potential in me and took the time to help me along .. encouraging me to pursue my Dreams and helping give me some of the Tools to do just that .. I later decided to keep my head to the Grindstone and pursue, Music / Sound / Instruments as my Path .. My Parents were very much less than supportive .. I owe that Teacher, all those many years ago, a continued debt of Gratitude ..

I believe that if many of the issues we face as a Society are to be minimized, we must do all things possible in order to allow Young Folks to find a Path that leads them toward a fulfilling and productive Life .. and, that should include the Arts .. which, in my opinion, are as important as anything else ..

While there are certainly other fundamental currents that flow through our Country, this is simply one that I am an Advocate of ..

If you want a real trip Back in Time, do what I do (and, we'll be doing it at the same time .. ;))

One of the absolute best Free Streaming Sites, that specializes in re-broadcasting of some of the greatest Rock / Pop / Soul music as well as live DJ's is ::

    Rewound Radio!

I generally have it on all day at the Workshop .. if you look at the Interface, using the "Slow Internet Connection" will preserve Bandwidth and certainly allow you to Browse and do your thing while still listening and letting yourself be taken back in Time to the Days when Radio helped define many of our lives .. find a setting / link that works for you .. :) .. and, give an Old Man a Kick by posting "Hey, Willie, I'm listening to Rewound .." .. because, I will likely be as well .. at least during the Daytime Hours .. Allan does an excellent job curating this Site ..

Once again, I'd like to take a moment and offer a Thank You to all that took some time out of your busy days and spent some of it here .. I truly, truly appreciate it .. we're coming up on our 2 Month Anniversary .. remember, it's Our Thread, not my Thread ..

Please freely Post what's on your mind, how things are going, thoughts in General .. (within ECF Limits, of course) .. you guys are a great bunch of Folks and I hope as time goes on, others will stumble upon us and join in .. if they don't, hey, it's their loss .. ;)

Oh, and have a Great Labor Day Weekend .. "Throw Another Shrimp on the Barby" for me .. or in my case, another Bratwurst .. :) .. I've got an outdoor Garden Shed in the Backyard that's calling me for a Paint Job, which I have been putting off way too long .. although that's not going to interfere with my firing up the Grill and / or crashing someone else's Shindig .. :)

We've talked about this and You know that I'm very much in accord. What a sad world it will be if all the access to pursuits in the Arts and creativity are so diminished or eliminated...:(

The arts, and other less academic programs, are exactly what we need in the schools for students who struggle with academics. Without those subjects, the dropout rate increases. Many are very talented. The arts are also a valuable avenue of self-expression for the iconoclasts and rebels-- who, when coaxed into such self-expression, can become valued productive members of society. The alternative would be self-destruction.
