If you don't have room for books then you need a bigger place...
or a library card.
Here's a beauty

Rant for the Day©

Whether or not anyone ever liked the "No Child Left Behind" act, it was replaced in 2015 with the "Every Student Succeeds" act .. in the new act, for the first time in the History of the United States, the Arts were identified as part of what would be considered a Well-Rounded Education .. recognizing that math, science, literacy, etc, are not, in and of themselves, enough .. the inclusion of the Arts in ESSA was a giant step forward in nurturing Students at all levels that, perhaps, lean more toward the Right Brain (see earlier Post) .. :) .. A Well Rounded Education makes for a More Well Rounded Populace .. :)

Some of you that have read Posts I've made in times past, may recall that I am a Big Advocate of Arts in Education and it's an issue I follow .. while I have no real beef with Schools that spend plenty of Money on Sports Programs, it seems to me, that over the years, the cuts that happen in many School Districts due to budgetary issues and what not, are first cuts in Arts programs .. whether it be Music or whatever .. while, at the same time, attempting to preserve the Football / Basketball, etc programs at all costs .. thus, I was quite happy when ESSA became the Law and thusly, allowed the unlocking of Federal Funds with which to financially assist these type programs .. :)

While initially, ESSA had 1.65 Billion annually (2016) in Grants authorized (a tiny drop in the Federal Budget) for Student Support and Enrichment .. the 2018 Budget is now projected to allocate 0 (zero)

When I was in High School, I was mentored by a Great Teacher that saw potential in me and took the time to help me along .. encouraging me to pursue my Dreams and helping give me some of the Tools to do just that .. I later decided to keep my head to the Grindstone and pursue, Music / Sound / Instruments as my Path .. My Parents were very much less than supportive .. I owe that Teacher, all those many years ago, a continued debt of Gratitude ..

I believe that if many of the issues we face as a Society are to be minimized, we must do all things possible in order to allow Young Folks to find a Path that leads them toward a fulfilling and productive Life .. and, that should include the Arts .. which, in my opinion, are as important as anything else ..

While there are certainly other fundamental currents that flow through our Country, this is simply one that I am an Advocate of ..

I remember a H.S. teacher saying if you learn to draw, paint, sing, play an instrument; you'll have it for the rest of your life. If you learn how to play football, baseball, etc. you'll have it for a few years. Which do you choose to take on your journey?

We've talked about this and You know that I'm very much in accord. What a sad world it will be if all the access to pursuits in the Arts and creativity are so diminished or eliminated...:(

Wow! Thanks for posting ... that one was totally out of my memory cells (short term or long term). It brought back memories.

Keep on posting I like your style in reading rooms and music. I remember being totally 'blown away' the first time I walked into and around the Boston Library. I was in awe.

The arts, and other less academic programs, are exactly what we need in the schools for students who struggle with academics. Without those subjects, the dropout rate increases. Many are very talented. The arts are also a valuable avenue of self-expression for the iconoclasts and rebels-- who, when coaxed into such self-expression, can become valued productive members of society. The alternative would be self-destruction.

At least they didn't eliminate the program...

we must do all things possible in order to allow Young Folks to find a Path that leads them toward a fulfilling and productive Life ..

But why? If they see a path to that, they won't become drug dealers and users, so they won't fill the for profit prisons. Big Biz would suffer if we properly educate youth. Can't have that, it's not capitalistic. Maybe democracy, but not capitalism...

LOL....another old song I've always loved... pertaining to education, and applies to the narrow focus that too often is pervasive...

Hello peeps just thought I would check in. What a beautiful Library. Never seen anything like that before. Hope everyone is doing well, I'm hangin in there. Been nice here but we're having another hot streak, which I don't enjoy. 85 today a couple degrees hotter each day for 3 more days. It's not supposed to be like that here. But at home they are hotter like 85 and air quality alerts everyday for the last few days. I can't believe I am looking forward to winter, I don't even like it but at least it's not like those poor Texas people. I think I'll rephrase that I'm looking forward to Fall. "Hello mudder hello fodder here I am at Camp Grenada" Supposed to be a high of 73 on Thursday looking forward to Thursday scratch the rest.
Well take it easy all, I know I will be.

Once upon a time there was a delightful, charming person who flitted about the forum spreading sunshine...Pri started a thread for insomniacs and I used to visit my friend there. I would never go to her thread and purposely try to disrupt it...or hijack it.....

Why someone would come from the thread that was once hers and behave in the manner we've been seeing here leaves me at a loss to understand...
