Well, today was a surprising day. I had to go to the Social Security office to take care of a couple thing. I planned on a long day so I took a fully charged tablet loaded with a couple good books on my Kindle app. I arrived at about 9:30 and checked in. I was called at 9:55 and walked out at 10:25. I'm still amazed.

    What were you two watching?

@Uncle Willie you're absolutely right about Gone with the Wind. It is very much a soap opera. But them again I watched "General hospital" for some 20 years :p

I had a Spouse Once Upon a Time that was a GH junkie .. back in the early '80's I can still remember the Luke and Laura Wedding .. o_O .. we had a Betamax VCR she'd tape the shows on ..

I had to tape them too, GH and All my children, because I was working at the time. Watching those shows was my way to unwind after a day at a very stressfull job.

Back in the days of Luke and Laura, I watched too. I worked at a restaurant, morning shift, so was home in the afternoons. That was way before any dogs, marriage (or two, second was the winner) and a child (from the first, but the 2nd is Dad).

life can be a soap opera.... o_O

A while back, when ECF decided to put the block of 5 recent Posts in the upper right corner called "Latest Replies", done in an effort to increase posting rates which in turn, beefs up the Street Value of a site as determined by Clicks ..

I had, prior to that, pretty much stayed away from most areas other than "The Lounge" for some years .. having been jaded heavily by the sheer amount of repetition, digression into Political Conspiracy theories on most any Thread .. (a new thread on some Hardware ends up being a Manifesto on Government, eventually, it always seemed) ..

Thus, when the "Latest Replies" block appeared, and was in my face, there would be topics I might be drawn to .. so I took the (click) bait ..

IMO, things have not changed .. the Armchair Shrinks, the Self Appointed Grand PooBahs, the Government Manifesto Conspiracy Freaks, the Passive / Aggressive Nut Jobs, etc .. they may have different Handles and Avatars, yet they seem to still push the same Agenda's as were being pushed back in the Golden Age of ECF ..

I Praise this Forum for introducing me to a great bunch of Folks that I would have otherwise, never known ..

I just need to resist the urge to wander around, I need to stay in my Safe Place ..

I've tried a few of the click-baits too ... and right back to the porch and lounge I came. The are few other threads I scan through regularly to 'keep up' on some stuff. But I rarely post anywhere but the porches and lounge.

The weather here in Fly Over Country is certainly encouraging snuggling up with a snuggie or at least a blankie over the next several days .. :) .. although I saw it in IMAX when it came out, I'm likely going to rent the "Bohemian Rhapsody" Blu Ray at the Redbox or the Video Store .. it's also about time for a re-watch of "Sunset Boulevard", one of my all time favorite films .. "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" as well as "The Grapes of Wrath" sound good ..

So, I'm lining out my little Weekend Film Festival .. :)

I don't want to throw any shade, but I was never a huge fan of "Gone With the Wind" .. as far as American Film History, I know it ranks up there, but, for me, it was always an extended Soap Opera .. o_O .. Janet mentioned it's Theater release earlier, that is part of the TMC Big Screen Classics Series ::

TCM Big Screen Classics | Fathom Events

I re-watched "Cool Hand Luke" for the who knows how many times a while back, it still maintained it's impact and resonance ..

Thank you so much for that link. There's a few of them I'd like to see, Lawrence of Arabia and To Kill a Mockingbird for starters.

    Morning!

Um, good day to stay inside :)

Didn't get hit too hard here, only about 4 or 5 inches. Oddly, the lowlands got more, as did the higher elevations.

Power stayed on , and once I go out and knock the snow off some (now) low hanging branches, satellite should be back as well.

Huh, guess I won't get to stay inside!

Yep, and most of the cities along the Sound as well, the heaviest snowfall in many years.

We're about 500' elevation, so normally get a bit more, although usually not anything like the north central States!

And, thankfully, no need to leave the property! Although we do have to go in MIL's front door, since the gate to the back isn't going to open for some time, too much drag from the snow :)

Will hoof around in a while for pics.

    Hola .. :)

IMO, no matter how large a TV you have, nothing beats a real Theater experience on any of the scheduled films .. I plan on taking in an many as I can .. besides the two you mentioned, "Shawshank" is a must for me .. as well as "Ben Hur" ..

I think the good news is, (at least I hope) .. these will tend to draw a more "Mature" crowd and thus folks will abide by the Modern Rules of the Cinema, I.E. Cell Phone off, etc .. which tend to be ignored many times and one of the reasons I curtailed my Movie Going and built my own .. :)
