Ah, but the future is here! I'm still getting used to the high tech that came with this car, a Honda Pilot.

I can text, fix my hair, eat my lunch while my car is 'driving me' down the highway at 70 mph. I just set the adaptive speed control, which automagically slows me down and keeps a safe following distance from the car in front of me if it's going slower than my 'set speed'. And if I roll out into the passing lane, it will increase again to my set speed.

Then I turn on my LKAS (Lane Keeping Assist System) for autopilot and the car steers itself. Somewhat unnerving going around turns at 70 mph and having the steering wheel turn all by itself while I keep thinking ... I hope the dang computer controlling all this doesn't have a bug and I go shooting off the road.
How does it handle when the lines between lanes have disappeared?

Well, I've made it three years without a cigarette, and, truth be told, without even a strong desire for one.

Last year on this date I wrote a fairly extensive message thanking all the people on this website for not only helping educate me in the ways of vaping, but also for adding a great deal of joy to the journey. This year, I'll just say that still holds true.

I just never thought I could quit smoking after more than 45 years. I did, though. I quit.

Yep, that can surely happen when going past on/off ramps of limited access highways, for example. It does a pretty good job, the camera(s) must really be 'looking' well down the highway.

Disclosure: it's not hands free driving. There are sensors in the steering wheel, and if you don't have two hands on the wheel after of few seconds the dashboard will flash a big orange box and display a message 'Steering Required' along with an audible alert. You can take one hand off for a reasonable amount of time to 'vape'. Yep, I tested that.

Also there's a big icon displayed on the dash of broken lane markers with a car in the middle of them. If the lane markers are solid white, then the LKAS is active, if they appear as just outlines then 'nope' its not active. So you do have an indication of whats going on and when you have to take control back.

Actually using the LKAS is like driving in a car with a teenager just learning to drive. I'm always watching over it to make sure nothing goes awry. Maybe after time if I use it often enough, I'll feel more relaxed with it. But as of now, I'm still not fully trustful of it. On some smaller radius highway turns it has a tendency to drift pretty close to the outside lane markers and I feel like it's crowding anyone that might be passing me in the outside lane.

No ... it's the middle of the line-up model, the EX-L. It's got a ton of electronic gadgetry but does lack the intercom system of the Touring model to talk w/ folks in the 3rd row of seats and a bench 2nd row of seats instead of bucket seats.

Looking for ideas for a suitable punishment for the DH... He made a major faux pas this morning and is lucky I didn't bean him with a cast iron frying pan. He fed the cat before starting the coffee!! There are priorities right?! I got up and no coffee was waiting to be put into my hand.

Then it was off to clear heavy snow in the driveway. There was too much to just melt today and then remnants would refreeze overnight so out I went. On the plus side, the arms got a good work out and I wasn't in the office. ;)

It's always been my experience that Women maintain suitable Punishment(s) within the Arsenal without needing additional input .. ;)

Hey ... now days, everyone has a cell phone ... I'll just call the back seat if they can't hear me shouting.

Oh ,,, and it doesn't have the built in Honda navigation system for 1000's of $'s more. But it has Apple Play, so the the map from my iPhone is displayed on the dashboard monitor ... cool! No more having to put my phone in a dashboard holder and looking at the small phone screen.

Until last year, I drove a manual exclusively. I liked it, and felt I had either better control - or at least more alertness. Still, over the years, I've had several injuries that would have prevented me from driving for several weeks if they had occurred on the right side of my body. I now drive an automatic. I do notice that when I approach a stop, my right hand still drifts to the gear shift lever.

Yep, I always felt I had more control over a manual trans, but we bought a used Impala that was an automatic. Turned out it was better since I was schlepping 2 little kids around and it helped to have a hand free when I had to referee.

Hubs and I have had nothing but Hondas for years. He drives a CR-V and I have a Fit. But sometime in the near future we're selling the Fit and replacing it with either another CR-V or an HR-V. Haven't decided yet. We only buy the basic package which in Hondas has everything we need. About the only thing new on them that I look forward to having is that big map instead of the little one on my phone.:)

This is our 4th Honda ... they're growing on us. Janet drives a CR-V and I replaced my 10 year old CR-V w/ the Pilot. I call it my CR-V on steroids. Our son didn't understand why we had 2 CR-V's but each of us liked them as our daily drive so that's just the way it was.

Or, consider installing a couple cans and a string .. o_O

I just set the adaptive speed control, which automagically slows me down and keeps a safe following distance from the car in front of me if it's going slower than my 'set speed'. And if I roll out into the passing lane, it will increase again to my set speed.

Oh, I don't know. I could make up a situation where that was useful, but I don't really care for that feature. If my car thinks it's too close to someone, it whines a little, and finally puts on the brake. Same thing happens if I'm rolling down a hill. It costs me gas, time, and brake linings. I would rather go with my judgement.

So far as lane departure warnings go, the highways around here all have rumble strips. Feel heavy vibration on the right, wake up and nudge it to the left. Same if it vibrates on the left. If you ever drive in NW NM, you might want to be aware that I drive a silver Corolla with an Eeyore plate on the front of the car.

See, this is what I'm talking about .. first, it's cursive writing, next it's yelling .. where does it all end .. ?? :)
