What exactly is USP? I havent researched the DIY aspect too much. All i know is theres 4 ingredients (PG, VG, Nicotine, Flavoring).

USP will be found in any juice you buy. USP stands for U.S. Pharmacopeia (Pharmaceuticals) Unflavored, No-Nic VG or PG. 100% VG has USP VG and VG-based Nic, and 100% PG has USP PG and PG-based Nic. 50/50 is 50% PG and 50% VG, with the Nic coming from one source or the other.

When you buy your Nic-base, it will be in either PG or VG.

Nic-base is sold in 24mg, 36mg, 48mg (I think) up to 100mg.

ohh.. i was under the assumption nicotine was just nicotine. So what exactly is the difference with pg nic or vg nic?

And as far as the nicotine levels you just dilute it down to the preferred mg like 12 or 16 using the other ingredients like pg/vg and flavoring.

USP is made in either PG or VG - not a mix of the two. Pure nicotine is extracted in the USA and put in either USP PG or VG to be sold, at the concentrations mentioned earlier, up to 100mg/ml. Therefore, one might purchase a liter of 36mg/ml Nic in PG (or the same in VG, but not a mix of PG and VG).

If one wanted to make a 50/50 PG/VG mix of 12mg/ml from 36mg/ml Nic that is in PG, then this presents a mixology situation. For example, if the 36mg PG Nic was mixed 50/50 with the same amount of USP VG (remember that USP has no Nic, whether it is PG or VG), that would make an 18mg 50/50 mix. But to make 12mg in a 50/50 mix, one would have to add some USP PG as well, to cut the 36mg PG Nic.

    100ml of 12mg/ml 50/50 PG/VG, with no flavoring added...

First, the 36mg/ml PG Nic needs to be cut to 24mg/ml (we'll make 50ml)

X33.333 ml of 36mg PG Nic
    +16.667 ml of USP PG
X50.000 ml of 24mg PG Nic

X50.000 ml of 24mg PG Nic
    +50.000 ml of USP VG
    100.000 ml of 12 mg Nic 50/50

One could do the same with 36mg/ml VG Nic cut with VG USP, and then add PG USP.

Was sitting here checking my email because I’m too tired to haul my weary bones to bed. Tried to back-read to see how our crew is faring with the extreme weather, but my eyes are drooping. I’ve thought about you all so many times, imagining y’all sipping hot chocolate and making big pots of dumplings stews. Have been super busy with work, guests, testing out 3 pieces of new equipment and dabbling in a cheese making project.

While I’m here, just a quick report that there are no events until

    February 16 – Tink’s birthday
    February 21 - Fudgey’s 4-year vet anniversary

    A quiet month.

Stay snuggly warm indoors my friends.

And give thanks for indoor plumbing to keep your fanny from freezing to the pot!:laugh:

Hope your pets are staying warm too.

I hope spring weather will come soon for ya.

    I’ll chat y’all soon.:)

    Good morning Stone :)

Doing all right today? I understand you got quite a bit of snow yesterday
Yes, I'm doing okay, thanks. I went to bed early again last night and slept it all off!! We got the heavy slushy stuff yesterday, and we'll get more tomorrow. This is the New York January we are all familiar with, so it is not unheard of. The sidewalks were a mess in the city, and I hope that those got cleared off sometime after the last time I was out in it...

I hope the ice doesn't stick around long for you either...that tends to drag down powerlines and wreak havoc, right? That's not good...Are you supposed to get warmer temps soon?

Yes, we get a lot of damage from ice around here. It's especially bad out here where we live due to all the trees and mountains, lot's of limbs come down if not the whole tree and if we lose power we're not really a high priority. Town gets service first.

Possible high of 35 today around noon
