 Just finished getting my NCIS fix!

Did you have a good day Glam? :)

Yes, ma'am......and it feels good not to be sitting here yawning....I must have really needed sleep...when I say fell asleep fully clothed....I still had my jacket, all my clothes, and my shoes on....I just fell over on the couch and passed out. I did not drift off to sleep....I literally just went into a sleep coma.:)

Four guys go and pickup the food and other items up and get back about 12/1 o'clock.

A little later usually four or five of us gals gather to put it out. A lot comes in bulk so we have to separate into smaller baggies. Boxes of can goods have to be emptied and put on tables the guys have setup. Basically it all has to come out of boxes or bags.

One of the regular gals is having trouble with her back and a couple of others are out of town because of family stuff. The ones who helped today have only done it a couple of times so we (actually DIL since she heads the thing) had to show them what to do. Which wasn't a lot since most of it was done since they showed up late. But hey they did show up.

Wow, jj....that sounds like a lot of work....our food pantry takes what people bring them...they do not send people out unless there has been a charity drive and there is a bunch of stuff somewhere. I think the head of our food pantry gets paid....or maybe she does it to get her pick of the donated stuff. I know her, and she is not the kind of person who would donate her time, without something in return.

There's a place here that most of the food pantries go to. Like a big warehouse. It all depends on what they have on what we get. It goes from food to cleaning stuff. We usually fill seven long tables with stuff under them. Sometimes we leave stuff like boxes of chips, cases of drinks by the door so they can grab them while headed out.
Someone has to keep an eye out so no one takes advantage.

The church also has three freezers put put stuff in.

That sounds like a lot bigger operation than our little pantry....how often is yours open? And how often do you work there? Is yours run by the Church?

It's once a month (TG!!!). I wasn't a regular until about three months ago. A couple of couples who helped with it moved out of state and they asked for help.

I just asked hubs...and he said ours is run by one of our churches....I did not know that. I thought it was a government thing.

Yes

A lot of them are run by churches. There is one call We Care in Morton and I think it's also backed by a church. Can't swear upon it.

We Care also has buses that pick up people who need transportation to places. The people who work for it get paid. Most out of churches are volunteers.

Once a month? No wonder they need freezers. :) Ours is open 2 days a week.....but there is not a lot of stuff to choose from.

Well, I guess you can feel good that you are helping people....I do know there are more poor people now in our country than ever before.....and things keep going up so the poor get poorer. And yet we send aid to countries that would spit on us!!
