I had the ? asked a few times "Will a - 1 ohm coil damage your mod?"
I knew a 0.8 ohm coil is fine. I have run my grand that way many times.

I had to test it to see. I wrapped a 0.3 ohm coil and fired it up. It didn't take long before the coil snapped.

Ok lets try a 0.5 ohm coil this time. I soaked the wick and held the button down for a long time. I did this 4 times. The positive contact never went up in temperature. That is my rant for the day. I know no that you can't melt your button with a super low ohm coil. Anyone that says it does, is just shorting the mod. ;)

0.8 ohms is about as low as anyone needs to go, in my opinion.

1.0 and 1.1 ohm coils on my Grand vape superb. Lots of vapor and flavor and the AW IMR 18650 isn't sweating it as long as you're not taking 40 second draws.

:p

IMO, anyone who has to wrap a coil less than 1 ohm to get a good vape probably could improve their building technique (except for pdib). I would wager that I could build that person a 1.5 ohm coil and they would think they were vaping their old .7 ohm build.

Smaller diameter, tightly wound masses of touching coils perform superior to big ol' spread out 3 wrap spring looking coils. Just saying. :)

Good to know, thank you, Rob!

I do run my SS wicked RM2 at about .9 to 1 ohm, and it runs fine. It's a little harsh, so I think it could stand to go up a bit.

I still don't think I would use a Reo to oxidize fresh stainless mesh. For those that happen not to know, it involves intentionally creating a short. Short enough to where you can't do it with a protected battery, and IMRs get noticeably warm. Seeing how my copper tube monstrosity costs less than a replacement spring for my Grand, I'll use that... And I want to be nice to the Reos.

Yep. I use cotton, which absorbs heat anyway, but .80ohm is a bit hot even for me (especially with a freshly charged battery!)

Also, it makes a difference if you have a coil not making contact with the cotton (a non-uniform coil job.) That will burn your tongue with hot juices sometimes at sub-1.0ohm, but I never do that do I?

Yep, sometimes I get that sloppy:evil:

Thanks for the info Rob,

Norman

I have been using one at 0.68 and this one at 0.85 (this last one is my all day one) on both Reo Grands this week and there's no problem with either. These are both on very fat silica wick and they work great! I like the vape at close to 1 better, and i cannot see the need to go lower than that.

Despite all the crap coils i have made in the past, i have never shorted either grand. But Commie's right about the SS mesh! I have used a hybrid mesh and cotton wick in an RM2, but all the mesh was blowtorched first.

Anyone that vapes at 0.3 must vape straight nic at 36mg and have quit smoking yesterday!

I would have to agree. Even my RBAs & Ciscos @ 1.5 vape great! I also don't see a need to go well below 1 ohm. Sure massive clouds look cool but I shoot for a great all around vape. For me, going well below 1 ohm is just to get that impressive show vape. I like to keep it around 1 ohm or just above as I enjoy it more & it doesn't kill the battery to last the day if I'm out somewhere.
