You don't need a high drain battery to run a LR 306 atty on a box mod per se. It'll drain the battery faster, I would assume....Trustfure 14500s usually run at 900 Mah, so it would perform just fine. Mine do. I used them before switching to high drain.

BA, did ya read post #4? a 900mAh batt is capable of producing 900/1000=0.9Ah The fire series have a C rating of 1.5. 0.9A x 1.5=1.35A way short of the 2.5A required. IMRs are capable of sustaining a 4A draw, well within the demands from the atty.

Yes standard 14500s can supply the atty but you are stressing the battery=shorter battery life in long run, and you are not getting the full benefit of the atty since it needs 2.5A and the batt can only produce 1.35A when fully charge and relatively new.

Cool, thanks. That's what I was after, someone's experience with them. :D

Ok sorry for my short generic answer previously...

It already seems you get your answer on the 'pros and cons' of LRs and 14500's , but I guess I should have shared that I have used 'standard' 14500's and Lr's in my BB with no issues that I am aware of ( one 6month old battery pooped, but life is unpredictable) I also for a time period used my BB for the sole purpose as an LR atty dry burner (to preserve my other mods). I would definately use High Drain since they are more 'ideal' but I wouldn't be shaking in my boots using standards if you know what I mean :D

Absolutely true LGD.

As long as folks understand the down side of using LI Ion is high drain applications. e.g shorter battery life then all is well. But their is a large myth going around that it is Okey Dokey to use LRs on eGos without a problem. That was spread by the individual who brought LRs to the market. Vendors sell stuff and vapers use stuff. I like to wear my stuff out if ya catch my drift. I have used Lrs on 14500 cells in the past, why not 2 cells = $5.99 one eGo batt = $29 (Canada) to me it was a no brainer. Of course now I use them on the proper cells.

IMHO the short life of your 14500 could very well have been caused by using LRs on it. Too much internal resistance was built up in the cell and very litle room to hold a proper charge. Internal resistance increases exponentially in cells under stress. Battery U

I haven't used the old Trustfires since switching to high drain....but they worked fine for me when I had no other options. All I was saying.

:)

I'm cool with that :) Folks do need to know though because far too many are stressing their batts without realizing it. It is not easy to quash a bad rumour once it spreads.

Switched what you say is true... we stress our batteries with standard resistance as well, because I am sure the tech specs of a Li-ion batts lifespan wasn't taking powering a heating element into account :D... and my 6mo comment was suppose to be a joke :p can't complain about a battery lasting 6mo or more :D

It never hurts to lean towards the least 'risky' advice if one is worried or unsure

I've been using all sorts of LR atties on my 14500 batts for months now without any issue. I recently started using my Cisco LR 901 and LR 306 atties with my 14500's and I have had no problem. Sure, the life of the battery is likely reduced, but that's batts for you. They are a consumable item, so replacement is inevitable anyway.

There are certainly batts available that are designed to handle the high current draw of LR atties, but if you have 14500's to use that aren't high-drain batts, you should be fine.
