Made the switch, love it so far. One question though...

So my wife and I recently made the switch to vaping and are both enjoying it. We've tried Blu and enjoy e-cigs before but it just wasn't enough. The vaping pens we got now have been awesome and made the switch super easy.

I do have a question regarding my setup though. Right now we both have eGo twists and kanger protank 2 minis. My question though is about air flow I guess. My setup seems SUPER airy 90% of the time. To the point where you can kinda hear a whistle but not quite (like a faint faint sound of sucking through an empty straw). Then there are times where it seems nice and tight and my vape is super smooth with a chill throat hit and a nice cloud. When I get the airy inhale the throat hit is really hard sometimes (still get decent cloud). I'm just not sure whats going on.

Meanwhile my wifes seems to do great. At first it was a really tight inhale but changed out the coil for a new one and it's doing much better. I've had 2 coils in mine and both seem to be airy. (I was refilling one night and noticed the coil was unscrewed a little bit and tightened it and it hit like a champ. Next day though, back to airy, hard throat hits 90% of the time)

Overall, we're both loving it and I'm already looking to expand my hardware collection!

As you've found, a loose coil can cause all kinds of problems. And they can loosen up just from opening to fill / refill. And coil quality can vary as well, one of the reasons many of us rebuild them.

If it's vaping fine, then suddenly gets really "strong", it might be your draw is too hard or too long. That can cause the juice on the coil to vaporize off faster than the wick can bring it in. Too high a voltage setting can also cause that to happen.

Congrats on making the switch, and welcome!

You can also get replacement bases for the PT2, Air Flow Control bases, which let you adjust the air on the fly.

Welcome Spizzel (and Mrs. Spizzel :) )

I'm with David. You might consider an alternate base for the PT2 mini. I'd noticed that whistling on mine as well (have since moved to bigger tanks with airflow control, so I don't seem to get that any more.) As careful as I thought I was, I think my threads on my base might be off-kilter now, too. It doesn't screw in as nicely as it used to, so I don't know if I've stripped it or not.

Glad you're enjoying and feel good about switching off the real cigarettes!

Morning everyone. I'm not new to Vaping, but I am new to ECF. I must say, the quick member responses are awesome. In response to the original question, I concur with the other posts. A hearty welcome to you. As your vaping journey progresses, you'll find what works best for you. There is so much great stuff on the market, with new devices and new atomizers coming out all the time. When you're ready, I would suggest you pick up an Aspire Nautilus mini, with the BVC (Bottom Vertical Coil) heads. It has nice adjustable air flow and is a very well-made tank. Welcome aboard

There are two main causes for your variations in draw.
1) the atomizer has clogged or flooded
2) the air holes in the atomizer head are blocked by the 150 connector of your mod.

Flooding is just that too much juice is provided to the wick quenching the coil and lowering the heat produced. Symptoms are gurgling, leaking, spitting juice, poping. To clear flooding remove the tank from your mod, wrap the tank in a paper towel, blow 4-5 times through the drip tip (mouth piece), mop up the excess juice that is ejected through the base.

Atomizer head air holes blocked is caused by the 510 connector threading covering the small air holes in the tank's atomizer. This will result in a tight draw. Slightly loosen the tank from your mod to realign the air hole position.
The other possibility is a clogged atomizer head. If after removing the tank from your mod the draw is still tight. The atomizer head is clogged and should be cleaned or replaced.

Note: the Protank is an 'airy' tank. So a light draw should be expected. An AFC (air flow control) base is highly recommended.

Thanks for the warm welcome and speedy replies everyone! I was looking for a vape forum to join, and chose this one, looks like I chose right! :D

I will definitely look into the adjustable airflow base, that will be a huge help I'm sure. Seems like a lot of people like the nautilus mini too so looks like I know my next tank then!

The Nautilus and Nautilus mini are both awesome tanks.

Ah ok, the gurgling and cracking seems to happen a lot on my setup. Does the PT2 have flooding problems? It seems to happen frequently for me (the cracking and gurgling).

As for the tight draw, the hole blockage was the first thing I thought of for the tight draws. Didn't seem to be the issue but changed the coil and that worked perfect so I'm assuming the coil was a dud, at least the person at my local shop said so and it made sense.

I bought the Nautilus Mini a few weeks ago because of the recommendations here, and have been extremely happy with it. In fact so much, I wanted the larger Nautilus tank but didn't like the looks of it very much so instead purchased the Silo tank that uses the same BVC's of both Nautilus tanks. Both tanks have great airflow control so you can adjust it to your liking. For me now, I must have an airflow control.
